Kind of reminds me of Ardsley Engine 164 (1992 Spartan/Beck), which was built with strict space requirments in their old late 1800's firehouse, which evolved from a one room schoolhouse, and, with many additions, a 4 bay firehouse, police station, fuel pumps, Village Court, and Village Hall. It's great that the City Council approved all this funding for "Urban Renewal" in their recent council session, but have they rehired the firefighters that have been laid off? Hopefully, since the City somehow came up with all this cash, they will find the money to rehire the laid off firefighters (and cops too?), as well as fill all the other open slots. And a training center would be nice too. Also, maybe hire more Police Officers if they want to attract people to Yonkers and not make them prey for the criminals. They are going to bank all this money on "Urban Renewal" as their Hail Mary, I hope that they also plan for future public safety and emergency services needs if they percieve this to be a success.
-
Yup. But Yonkers wants to build all these projects, including schools, yet doesn't have the City services needed to make these projects work. I think it's a slap in the face to the unions to build all these projects yet not fiscally forecast and plan for them. They are ripping at the unions, demonizing them, while courting and giving these millionare developers everything they want, including things that will cost Yonkers millions out of pocket, on a silver platter. That includes tax incentives that will affect their ability to pay the salaries of police, firefighters, teachers and other blue collar Yonkers workers, who,if these projects succeed, they will need more of but not see the taz benefits from these projects for 10-20 years. Kind of like what White Plains did to themselves. They made dramatic improvements and revitalized the city, but now it's costing them.

I hope you are kidding? How do they expect this "urban renewal" to be succesful if the city is not safe? Are all these construction and other jobs this "urban renewal" is going to create going to be given to city residents and city-based companies? And required to give the laid-off city workers jobs first (if needed). They funded for all these school improvements, but still have teachers laid off? And why does Yonkers need it's budget approved by the State?

Nice job, Rob! Thanks for planning this succesful get-together for our members!!

Congrats to Jim Arena on his election win to beconme a Somers Fire Commisioner. Congrats to Andy Mancusi on his election win to beconme a Hawthorne Fire Commisioner. I know both personally, and they will be awesome additions to their respective districts. Both are progressive, knowledgeable, open minded, and have contributed thousands upon thousands of hours to the Westchester Fire Service in numerous and various capacities. Please add other new commisioners elected last night if you have that info...

As always, Los Angeles City FD does a great job interfacing their activities to the publc. Here's an article about a major-emergency high rise fire they had last weekend. I particularly like the terminology "airborne engine companies". And how much more seriously they take (and fund and staff) aviation out there. Thanks for posting it, Joe! Looks awesome! Should serve the tight streets of Norwalk well. Is this the first Tiller for Norwalk? Also, will the current Truck 2, the Spartan/Sutphen, be reassigned? More importantly, will you get a chance to be a tillerman?

That's exactly what it is. They can also help to evacuate ,and relay images to the Incident Commanders.. Keep in mind, in regards to Aviation, Los Angeles doesn't have the density of Manhattan. It is VERY spread out, with bumper to bumper traffic almost 24 hours a day. They also have a lot of natural disasters, like wildfires, earthquakes, mudslides, etc. As for the elevator, at what point do you become concerned that it may not be safe to used, and assure that no one is going to get stuck?

Los Angeles FD has some excellent training material on their website. I found these Tactical Decision Games, and they look like a great idea. http://www.lafdtraining.org/tdg/

Wow, Los Angeles City FD has made a drastic change in their rescue fleet. Apparently, they have dumped both Ford and Wheeled Coach, and are now using Type I's with a Dodge Ram chasis and Braun Northwest-Northstar modules (no affiliation to Braun). Also, some really cool new features and looks like they spec'd for heavy call volume..... This WAS a HUGE contract for Wheeled Coach, but they still build for other large cities like Dallas and now New York City. See here for photos: http://www.braunnw.com/popup.php?id=492

OK, I ask because everything I read contradicts itself. Is Dodge a different brand then Ram now? I notice no affiliation between the two, and Ram's are starting to open up their own dealerships. Does this have anything to do with their bailout or buyout of Chrysler?

Sterling has been out of business for a while, but I know exactly what you are talking about. Sterling used to be Ford's Heavy Duty truck line until bought by Daimler Chyrsler when they were gobbling up everything like Thomas School Bus, American Lafrance and subsequent companies, etc. Just did some research, looks like Ram Trucks are going to be a completly seperate line from Dodge. They want Ram to be loosely affiliated with Dodge and keep it's heritage(the emblem-and the repeat customers), but they are trying to rebrand Dodge as a "hip, trendy, and cool" brand. The Dodge Dakota also went over to Ram Trucks, and will be discontinued (I had that truck, different model years, for several years-thanks Hunter B!) and loved it. Apparatently it will be remarketed as the Ram Rampage. Should have done my homework, but I think this is general interest so I posted.
