  1. LOL, it happened before that portion of the city was annexed. I think it's original use was different from what it is now (small office suites). I know there's got to be some story behind it. This is the first due truck: Second due truck: BOTH are equipped for rope rescue.
  2. Here is the property from Google Maps: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=1100+Round+Rock+Avenue,+Round+Rock,+TX&aq=0&sll=37.09024,-95.712891&sspn=51.754532,74.179688&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=1100+Round+Rock+Ave,+Round+Rock,+Williamson,+Texas+78681&ll=30.512005,-97.692972&spn=0.003471,0.004528&t=h&z=18
  3. Seems like a cool book! http://www.fire-police-ems.com/books/bf5577.shtml Barnes and Noble has it for cheaper: http://productsearch.barnesandnoble.com/search/results.aspx?WRD=firefighter+exam+for+dummies&page=index&prod=univ&choice=allproducts&query=Firefighter+Exam+for+Dummies&flag=False&ugrp=0
  4. Regardless of politics, this book seems to be good for the canidate who want to postion him/herself to be the top choice. I think a lot of advice in this book is valid, and shouldn't be discounted due to "politics". There are a number of departments across the nation where people claim the test isn't fair. But there are several excellent agencies where the information found in this book, if it is used, can really help a canidate acheive their goal.
  5. I have some really good sets of baseball cards. However, I was told they had no value in today's society.
  6. I'll start this off because I don't have anything to share, other then it is 12 degrees with rolling blackouts in Central Texas, which doesn't make for a good photo. Since we have members from all over the nation and world, share with us photos from this massive storm from where you are and what outside looks like.
  7. This is what I found when I woke up this AM: Round Rock, TX-Central TX Region
  8. I vaguely remember something like this in the past. I love this model, for medium sezed it seems to be perfetct. The price is awesome. and it will allow departments who couldn't afford a Maruader II. This will help them very competitive in today's market. Things like new Aerialscope refurb/remount and uprade to Aerialscope II package, they are positioning the company for the good in the future. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/photo.php?fbid=498310080078&set=a.413900040078.192554.106056450078
  9. In news sure to delight some members of this site: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/41409549/ns/today-entertainment/41404339
  10. I hate the two storylines that John hates as well. Otherwise, it's an awesome show.
  11. ERCOT, which operates the Texas Electric grid, is saying that they lost several power plants due to an ice storm. Unknown when these plants will be back online and feeding the grid. People running the Super Bowl and related events are freaking out. On top of this, they are predicting snow for Central and North Texas on Friday.
  12. Very interesting and unique topic. Very pertinent to Elmsford too considering the amount of churches within the district that are structurally different, and throughout the entire area. I wish I could make it up this year, but I can't. Maybe next year we can set up an EMTBravo booth, and I can make it up that way.
  13. Ed, it's statewide. My power's already gone off three times today. Statewide Emergency for the Republic Of Texas due to insufficient online generator power, and the operator of the statewide grid is rationing out electricity to cities. I wonder if this has anything to due with space heaters? TXCHEIF, you guys are getting it the worst in the state! I imagine the same power situation in Dallas? Perfect timing with the Super Bowl. It's funny that the guys from Green Bay and Pittsburgh are complaining about the weather on the news!!
  14. I also read about this in Fire Apparatus And Equipment Magazine. I think this will be the next big revolution in the fire service. It is also being spec'd for military purposes, and that's where a lot of emergency services equipment innovations originate.
  15. The issues on the front page should be corrected. I know this forum, once we get everything going and fine tuned, will be a success. I'd like to thank Eli for all the work he's put in. Again, and this goes for the entire site, we all need to pitch in to make this a great site. The content is only as good as the members who contribute threads and reply to threads or posts.
  16. Thanks for the heads up. The error should now be corrected.
  17. Keep in mind, it is still a work in progress. And it's only as good as the members make it to be. Be sure to post information if you are an orginal source. If you have further information or correction, PM FDNY 10-75 LFD171 does a great job, and Eli also does a great job of maintaining a list on his site as well. We hope to have a succesful list here on EMTBravo as well. It's still in it's beta mode, and we expect to fine tune it as much as we can so we can make it the best it can be.
  18. I've set it up so the Apparatus Coming Soon forum topics don't show in the recent topics page at the top of the forum. Does that work better?
  19. (Thanks to Robin for link to this story) FULL ARTICLE:http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/news/press/cape_may/article_f1b114f6-2b6c-11e0-91e4-001cc4c002e0.html
  20. Awesome shots, Bill! I like the one with the new EFFD Quint, I had forgotten they had got that!
  21. The response time for emergency services to my neighborhood is incredibly quick, and supplemented by an Paramedic Engine company and dual Medic ambulance. However, if one of my neighbors (god forbid) goes into cardiac arrest, I would love to know. The sooner someone can start CPR the better. It could be set up like a Community Alert, where people who wish to participate have to sign up and sign liability waivers. At least in my part of town, this would be a popular program.
  22. A little late posting this, but still.... http://www.northjersey.com/news/112416349_New_ambulance_contract_.html
  23. That's good. The color system was one of the stupidest things I've ever seen.
  24. Frisco, TX has one of the coolest safety education programs around. The literally built a minature "town" to teach kids about safety. Frisco is a northern suburb of Dallas (North Texas), and has a great growing commercial tax base and population. It's about an hour north of Cowboys Stadium where the Super Bowl is being held next weekend. I took these photos last March but am just getting around to posting them now. Their website does a great job of explaining what it is and what it's all about, so I'll let the following link explain: http://www.friscotexas.gov/safetytown/Pages/default.aspx I'd like to thank Frisco FD Chiefs, who are always accomodating, and Frisco FD for the invite and tour, and the on-duty crew for setting everything up. For more information on the department, visit their website: http://www.ci.frisco.tx.us/departments/fire/pages/default.aspx And also, I thought I got more photos, but I guess I didn't. Sorry about that. First up is this Toyota Prius, for the Frisco FD "Road Show" Various fire and rescue equipment is displayed in the entrance hall NOT A REAL FIREFIGHTER! This was an actual Frisco Engine An intersection in Safety Town. Traffic lights are fully functional, including an opticom system and the traffic sensors: The kids are provided these Power Wheels Jeeps to travel around Safety Town, and must follow traffic laws and signs. Younger children are provided bicycles: Frisco Safety Town Fire Station 1: Everything is very realistic, as you can see. This setup was provided by the local electric company, to teach kids safety around utilitys (like if they kick there ball into a fenced area while playing): Why do you have to poke holes in the wall? Safety Town Wal-Mart: North Texas Tollway provided this minature toll booth setup (and yes they have to pay tolls in their power wheels) The Dallas Morning News provided this plaque on their building: COMING SOON: A tour of their feature-packed Mobile Command Center, which will be serving during the Super Bowl: And a tour of their very unique Engine 601: And finally, the mission statement:
  25. What about, if no one was injured and inside the vehicle, just pushing the car off the highway, which is the safest place, or at least to the shoulder. No reason to be on the highway for longer then we need to be. If someone is injured, the weather condition and location indicate a rapid extrication. I know I say "Down Here" a lot, but I think it's a different world. ALL police cars are equipped with push bumpers, not for asthetics, but to push the car off the highway. Apparatus follows blocking the scene to a T, but they work as quickly as possible to clear the incident from the highway. In severe cases where their lives are in danger and PD cannot get the vehicle off the roadway and the wrecker is not there, the FD is authorized to pull the vehicle off the roadway using a strap. And cops let the firefighters and paramedics do their job, and then they (PD) does theirs, or in conjunction with (crime scene). Everyone works together, and there is rarely any conflict. The trooper has to document why he closed the road, and can get written up for not keeping it open. This all stems it's way down from your NYS legislators who don't want their consituents complaing about traffic. Also, keep in mind...do you like sitting in trafic? What problems does a traffic jam cause? People rushing to get to work speeding through alternate routes. Secondary collisions caused by rubbernecking. NY Traffic reporters saying the Meadowbrook is shut down. I'm sure there is a little more to this story then is told.....they should have gotten the patient out of the car, into the ambulance, and left the scene for the trooper to deal with. FORGET cutting the battery, throwing down absorb all, stretching a line, etc. Get the patient rapidly and get out of there, and again, leave the scene for the trooper to deal with and wait for a wrecker. Document it, file a complaint, and don't go back onto the roadway until you come to terms with the trooper. Most of the time, the vehicle needs a wrecker and not us.
