I've been waiting for your photo of the new Ladder 50 for a long, long time! As always, great shot! Awesome job by the commitee on this truck. It is VERY progressive for Ardsley, and will serve the needs of the department and commmunity perfectly. I first started out with Ardsley FD as an Explorer in 1993, so this department has a special place in my heart. I spent many years and much time with the old "Quint 1". I hope that my camera and I can make it back to Ardsley someday when time and money allow so I can check it out and get some of my own photos.

What happens when this gun gets to a persons home? Are they going to secure it properly? What happens if they have kids? If they secure it properly, will they be able to get it out by the time it is needed? If they leave it in their car to run in to a Quickie Mart that sells alchohol, what if the car is broken into? In large crowds, how are they going to secure their weapon? Are these people trained to use a firearm in an active shooter situation? How are they going to react to stress? Can they ensure they won't hit innocent civilians? If multiple people pull out guns in a large scale enviroment, how will they identify who is the real shooter? Isn't that what we have police for? When a police officer fires his weapon, it often costs millions. How will these civilians protect themselves both legally and in a civil case? ABC did a great special on this. If you have a few minutes, watch this: http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=7312540 And are we still worried about the British invading? And when the Constitution was written, did the authors ever imagine automatic weapons? Or were they just thinking about muskets? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution Legislators should worry more about funding more police officers and more investigators to deal with these types of situations, get guns off the street, and tracking the guns that are out there and who's hands they are in.

I really like the Engine's low hose bed. And, as mentioned, the jacking system is perfect for Ossining on the truck.

That's an awesome photo. It's sad how many beautiful building were torn down during that time period to build modern structures. At the time the current Station 1 was probaly really "modern". But still fits in with the surrounding neighborhood of modern structures, I guess. Also, it looks like the roofline had changed in the photos. Any story behind that?

While at the Firehouse Central Expo in Dallas, TX this past September, I was told by a manufacturers rep that Westhester County had one of these on order, POSSIBLY part of a regional grant (meaning Nassau, etc are getting one as well). Don't know if that materialized or not.

Last week, a vehicle fleeing Austin, TX Police Officers after being seen in a drug transaction crashed into a Capitol Metro (our version of Bee-Line) bus. Footage was captured from the front of the bus as well as the inside by the dual dashcam. The driver-suspect of the car was killed, the bus driver was seriously injured, and a few passengers recieved minor injuries. I just demo'd with a local PD a digital dashcam that films wide angle the front of the car, and another camera that films the inside. Audio, of course, is included. However, this system has an option that's kind of unique. The officer wears a camera with microphone around their front chest pocket, and can digitally transfer any of the footage shot by any of the camera to the MDT and include it in his/her report. The footage is also kept for 1 year in case a complaint is made. Since it is all digital, it can be stored easily, and can download wirelessly to the officers MDT, and again when they get to their station. I feel that Police Officer's shouldn't have to have this kind of scrutiny, having something watch them do their job. I believe in "old school" policing, before Dashcams, the Media, etc. Nowaadays, I'm just waiting for someone to have their family members killed thinking that they can become millionaires. If this tool is used properly, and unions should ensure a protocol for it does not jeopardize the officers career, it can take out all the gray areas and show exactly what happened. We've had several instances where people have been shot by officers trying to defend themselves over the past couple of years down here, and only one has caused controversy, but that one is complicated in other ways. However, the ones I find most notable were the ones where the families were shown the dashcam of the incident, and the family members were actually supportive of the PD despite the tragedy.....they understood. I feel "Officer Cams" should become standard....although I am not a Police Officer, I just think it documents things so well that it could actually save departments from multi-million dollar lawsuits, and save Officers from the tremendous stress placed on them from the incident and it's lingering effects the rest of their career.

Today, I saw this in operation on top of a mixed-use, multiple story commercial office building. In Austin, a large number of businesses are installing solar and wind devices on their roofs or property for "green power" and alternative energy. I am in no way against this, and I find it important that alternative energy sources are used. However, this is the first time I've seen this type of device, and wished to share it here as it can be a hazard to firefighters during rooftop operations or while laddering the building. http://www.buildingturbines.com (Video and photo by me, Seth Granville, 2-14-11)

Just watched the second episode tonight. This show is one of the best dramas in years. Great writing, acting, everything. My new favorite show, next to "Southland".

You arrive at this building which is becoming well involved from what you can see in the front and sides. There are two people trapped in a back office by a window by the flames. Their only exit is the back windows: But you have one complication: Get a ground ladder? Don't think so. The back is wet marshland that will sink you to your hips. Another problem to consider is that the floors in this building are somewhat thin. So, how would you handle this rescue?
