  1. Great shots! Really captures community pride in this event very well. The Milton Point Sutphen Engine and Utility 39 look like they both got lighting upgrades. What's with the yellow license plate on the front of the PCRRBVAC bus?
  2. We've been having some beautiful weather here lately, with crystal clear skies and temps in the 60's-70's. So, going to and from, I've gotten some photos inbetween. I know some of you are probaly sick of me posting Texas stuff. I also may have posted some of these in other threads, but all these photos are brand new. First up is Temple, TX Quint 6, which comes out of the northwest portion of the city. It is a Spartan FF/Quality/RK 75'. It serves a large heavy industrial area. This is a Paramedic Quint, and does ALS first response. All photos by me. Temple FD just opened a brand new Central Station, which houses Engine 1, Truck 1, Booster 1, Hazmat 1, and Command 1. It does have poles. Which is a HUGE improvement over their previous station, which closed last month when they moved: Engine 1, a 2008 Spartan/Crimson responds from Station 1, and is a very busy engine, serving a diverse mix of residential, commercial, and industrial properties. As with all Temple Engine companies, this one is a Paramedic Engine. A nice message on all their vehicles (taxpayers vote to approve these purchases): And something to help with repacking the hose: EMS in the city is provided by Scott And White EMS, which is run by a company in Michigan under some deal with the hospital. They just took delivery of this 2011 Chevrolet/Wheeled Coach Crusader: Their supervisor responds in this: The volunteer portion of the Taylor Fire Department runs this unit as Brush 333: The career portion of Taylor FD has a new Central station, which also houses a Williamson County Medic Unit and EMS Hazmat unit. Back to Taylor Volunteer Fire Department, they run this as Rescue 336: Temple Truck 1 enjoys some breathing room at it's spacious new home. It's a Spartan/Quality/RK Aerial: And, as posted in another thread, an ambu-hearse: The City Of Round Rock, TX just took delivery of this 2011 Pierce Impel for Engine 5, which covers the western portion of the city. Georgetown, TX runs this Ford Excursion as Battalion 1: Round Rock FD just took delivery of this 2011 Ford F-550/AG Meir for Rescue 3: Engine 2 had fun training on this school bus, donated by Round Rock schools. The bus was initially "t-boned" intentionally by a front end loader, and placed on it's side to simulate real damage: The City Of Cedar Park just took delivery of this 2011 Spartan Gladiator/Smeal: Austin FD runs this Ford F-250 as a Search and Rescue unit: And this F-350 as Battalion 2: While EMS supervisors use these police package Tahoes: Round Rock uses this behemoth as part of their SWAT team: Aus-Tex Towing operates this 2010 Peterbilt/Century 9055: Austin FD Engine 2 and Battalion 1 cover the northern part of downtown as well as the UT campus from these quarters:
  3. 200 blck N 3rd, across the street from the old CS just a little south. LOL- so it could sit still long enough for me to get a photo! I didn't even notice that. It was at the Temple shops.
  4. I was reading an article in "First Responder Newspaper: New York Edition" April 2011, about the history of Dobbs Ferry VAC's 1948 Cadillac Meteor ambulance by Frank Rauhofer. It was aqquired by the newly formed Dobbs Ferry VAC in 1962 from it's previous operator, Dobbs Ferry Hospital. It was sold in 1964, to a retired Dobbs Ferry Police Officer to ultimately move to AZ. It was found in October 2008 in a California salvage yard, still reading "Dobbs Ferry VAC" on the doors. Members wanted to buy back this vehicle and restore it, but apparently the DFVAC board declined it as a "waste of money", and was sold on an online auction site and shipped to Europe. Even though a resident offered a place to store the vehicle and work on it, as well as storage after the resoration. This kind of stuff ticks me off. First, there should be a proper Fire/EMS/PD museum in Westchester. Another rant for another day. History like this should not be passed over. In my opinion, again my personal opinion, they should have at least aqquired the vehicle and stored it until they found a proper home. EMS history like this is hard to find, many FD's have antique fire apparatus but many EMS agencie's don't have much to highlight EMS history. And now, quite possibly, this car is gone forever, to someplace in Europe. I'm aware that the VAC has other financial commitments, but after talking to some people about this, there was quite a bit of people willling to step up and help out and this would cost Dobbs Ferry VAC very few dollars. Thanks to Frank Rauhofer for highlighting this, and hope he does not mind me sharing this information here. Also, if he is a member here, I hope he'll add the photo to this thread.
  5. Thank you for the correct and factual information from your side, much appreciated. I know DFVAC has always had financial restrictions with their response fleet, and as with most agencies, staffing challenges, as well as all the other things an EMS agency has to worry about. I was just presenting the information that I had, and glad someone chimed in, because that's part of what this forum is about. It's too bad though, still, that no one who wanted to restore it, whether in Dobbs Ferry or elsewhere, won the auction and it's now in Europe. Never noticed, but there are photos on DFVAC's site: http://www.dfvac.org/Dobbs_Ferry_Volunteer_Ambulance_Corps/Photos.html New thread created about the musuem debate:
  6. Found this really cool article while doing a search on another subject...don't know if it ever was posted on here, can't find it in a search. Home of the Bravest A Day in the Life of the White Plains Fire Department http://www.wptimes.com/wp_walkabout.php?viewspecific=1&storyid=2174

VA Veterans Transport Service- 2011 Ford F-550 TIFMAS E4-610 views2011 Ford F-550 4x4/Siddons Skeeter Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System Assigned To Georgetown FD (Williamson County) Williamson County EMS Hazmat Command: The old Temple Station 3 (they moved out several years ago actually-now occupied by Parks And Rec Department): The "new" Temple Station 3 (Engine 3, Rescue 3): Why did the Chicken place cross the road? (to make room for the widening and modernization of I-35 from Georgetown through Waco) Scott And White EMS REALLY cares about rear visibilty! (this is really the paint scheme, there are NO relfective stripes on the back or anything but the logo with the new paint scheme. And I thought one of the older "Critical Care Transport" ambulances with the back painted black was bad, lol!): The back of the new Central Station: The Central Station sign is really nice at night, lit by rear LED's: Ironhorse District flag: Another shot of the now vacant old Central Station: And Madeleine thouroughly enjoyed her trip to the Temple Railroad Heritage District today with Dad!
  8. Keep in mind, Texas is a gigantic state with large stretches of rural highway that are very well maintained and marked, with great visibility. However, I do think this would increase the fatality rate of accidents and I don't think some drivers could handle this speed. 10. My Dell hard drive has been corrupted since Day 1. It blue screens once a day. Sent me another hard drive, same problem. Getting the proper help is nearly impossible. It takes hours, mostly because they all follow the standard script and have no real ideas about computers. They keep trying to tell me to reinstall the operating system, like that is an easy task. It took me three days to move all my programs and files over from my old comupter to my new computer. They have the most difficult to use website, and bulky, complicated, and out of date. I truly hate them, yet I hope more people buy Dell since their World Headquarters is located here, and it helps keep my taxes low and their philathropy to the local economy is awesome. I also have issues with USB, remote port's wont work with my cameras for some reason, they have to be plugged into the front of the computer.

  13. And a Shift Commander (Excursion) and Booster (Brush Truck). Last I heard, Station 8 was going to break ground after completion of the Central Fire Station. The rescue is funded by the 7 county region and responds with members of Engine 3 to any incident in the area. They are always testing, if you're a paramedic it will help big time. It assists in pulling the hose to reload it into the bed. It was built to tower ladder spec, without the bucket. The tandem axle also helps with weight distrubution.

  15. You'll see more photos of the inside soon, it's really set up nicely. I was short for time going through Temple, but I definetly want to get more. Here's a couple of ones I did get.. Engine 1, the new Central Station, and a whole bunch of other stuff is part of a 2008 bond package which will include a lot more.... Read about it here: http://www.ci.temple.tx.us/index.aspx?NID=1010
  16. I will be stalking my local Holt Cat dealer here in Austin....I love the way this truck looks!
  17. In Temple, the primary industry is historically the railroad. The Sante Fe railroad was based here, and BNSF has several large rail and switch yards and maintainence facilities. There are many large distubution centers for a variety of companies. Wilson Art, which makes high pressure laminates. The list goes on and on....there are a ton of things that are manufactured in Temple. (Temple is also located just east of Fort Hood) Also, one of the largest hospitals in the state, Scott And White, is located in Temple, and is constantly expanding. A new Childrens Hospital is currently being built. It is to note, that the aerial is set up to flow foam. Also, Station 6 has a large foam bank. There are sloped driveways into industrial parks, hills, large bridges that cross over railyards, etc. I think Quality built them that way. Yeah, I know. I always wondered why they don't have a Tower Ladder...it' a possibilty for the near future. 18. Thanks guys! I'll post more recent photos in this thread. Yup, my mind is mush. That is for Taylor, not Temple. The nicer one is Temple's. Temple Truck 1 is on the drawing board to be replaced. I've been hearing that they want a tower ladder or tiller. Also, Engine 3 might be replaced with a Quint due to the growth in that part of the city. Here's another shot of Temple Quint 6:
  19. Darien's "new" TL is nearing completion....photos at: http://www.hudsonvalleyfire.com/
  20. Thanks for the great shots, especially the detail shots. Sharp looking engine, with plenty of room for equipment. Maybe the black over yellow will rub off on the Tower Ladder! (not that it's not sharp itself!)
  21. I know most of you know this is how EMS started, but I'll explain quickly since I got this photo yesterday and wanted to share. This would respond to a sick persons residence to take them to the hospital. Should their condition deteriorate, the "ambulance" would change destinations. I often wonder if there was a conflict of interest, lol. This particular vehicle is an Oldsmobile, and I don't know further about it. Photo by me yesterday.
  22. http://www.trutv.com/shows/police-pov/index.html I wonder if this will be real, or fake reality like a lot of shows on TruTV. On another note, my city is contemplating purchasing these for walking and bike beats. They are $2,000 a piece though. http://www.trutv.com/shows/police-pov/index.html
  23. Unfortunatately, the manufacturers are jacking up the prices on these pre-2010 engines. With the frequency this departments buys new apparatus at, it is inevitable that they go with these new engines..
  24. This is why pumps on brush trucks should be completly independent of the chasis engine, and run via their own engine. Grass fires move fast, and we have a lot of them down here. Most are designed to be quick and agile to avoid situations like this.
  25. Members, TR54 and I came uo with an event that we think will be a hit. EMTBravo's "Protection From The Past" Trivia night. The exact format has not been decided, but it will involve Westchester fire service history questions. There will be prizes and awards, and all proceeds would go towards preservation of Westchester Fire Service History. TR54 is currently developing the content. We would also be honoring the "senior guys" of the Westchester Fire Service (all inclusive) We're still in the early stages of planning, and trying to figure out what members can help us with what. So, if you can, please email me at seth@emtbravo.com if you can help with any of the following -Venue ( a place to hold the event) -Caterer -Donation of prizes -A/V system with a audio and projector system. -Any vendors who wish to rent space, or any orgnaization that wishes too Want to offer something needed above? Email seth@emtbravo.com I would really like/need to be in attendance, so I would really need someone to sponsor or help with my trip up (air, hotel, car) since Ihave no personal means of doing so. If anyone cansuggest a date when this might work for the most number of people and why? And if you're interested in aattending this event, or have any ideas, let's use this thread as a workgroup. II'll keep everyone updated via this thread. Seth Granville Executive Director, The EMTBravo Group Email me
