I was thinking the same thing. But Smeal has been selling other manufacturer's aerial products for a long time. For instance, at one time Smeal built all the aerials for Pierce. Also, the LTI (now owned by Smeal) Aerial factory and the Spartan ERV aerial factory are literally right next to each other in PA, and Smeal also makes their branded ladders at their main facility in Nebraska. And now Smeal's LTC/LTI division owns both the Telesquirt and Snorkel brands. Here's an updated article on the jobs and other items in the local Nebraska newspaper: http://www.omaha.com/money/jobs-at-smeal-fire-apparatus-plants-are-safe-ceo-of/article_843596e6-5cec-5001-bf74-9bbb5223ab11.html

What I worry about happening is that they stop selling chassis to the smaller manufacturers that don't have their own custom chassis and rely on Spartan. Although I don't see that happening because with the amount of chassis they sell, it's probably a good source of income as well. Also, didn't Spartan ERV start out with buying Luverne and General, merged them, and created the Crimson brand, later renamed Spartan ERV. I wonder how many people are going to lose jobs with this, both manufacturers overlap each other and it's inevitable. I also wonder if any dealers will be affected?

No, the 30 ones I saw were all trucks like the one below repainted in black. Although the one you have a photo of are new to me as well, they are newer work crew trucks I guess they repainted as well.

I saw over thirty in a convoy a few weeks ago, southbound on I-87. approaching the TZB They were definitely repainted used NYSDOT Mack Granite single axles. The ones I saw said "New York State" in large reflective letters on the dump body and a small yellow round label on the door. I can only assume they were heading to Long Island? I'm also trying to find out where they are stationed, would love to get a shot. (amongst knowing what they are for) What's the story behind that?

Interesting article in the NY Times that dissects the structure with 3D models of what went wrong, how, and where in the structure: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/12/12/us/oakland-warehouse-ghost-ship-fire.html?smid=tw-nytimes&smtyp=cur&_r=1

Based on the radio feeds I monitored on Broadcastify and friends who monitor the scanner in some areas, it's only about a 20-30 minute delay in order for the producers and department staff to review the feed and remove any sensitive info, like the identity of undercover officers, victim privacy issues, or anything that may compromise a case. If you look at the trunks of units they are following, they have special modems that look like white boxes mounted on them that allow for the live feed. SOME footage is filmed during the week preceding the episode for the slow times. She was considered an exemplary officer before it. Everybody has their personal life and has nothing to do with the show..

I did some reading up on this article, and I'm curious as to why Philadelphia FD is not held liable in this lawsuit (although maybe it is a separate lawsuit....her family has been requesting criminal charges against the FD). Maybe because they don't have as deep of pockets as the manufacturers as aforementioned in the thread. The NIOSH report is not yet out, but here are some snippets I found in articles from reputable online sources and Philadelphia FD quotes strongly suggesting the Air-Pak may not have been the issue: -An inexperienced ladder crew took 18 minutes to respond. Ladder 8’s late arrival delayed the start of much needed ventilation. Receipt of the LODD Report may have shed light on the impact that the “Firefighter Rotation Policy” had on Ladder 8’s response time to the specific fire at 1655 Middleton Street. Nevertheless, a review of Ladder 8’s roster showed that firefighters on duty that morning may have been unfamiliar with the community and their first alarm district. -The team with whom Craig entered the rowhouse got separated, leaving her alone inside after they were overcome by smoke and heat and ordered to withdraw. -The blaze that killed Craig was the sort firefighters dread: a basement blaze in tight quarters with paneled walls (paneling burns fast and hot). -As other firefighters have said, Craig was pulled from the house 17 minutes after her first Mayday alarm sounded, when firefighters found her by chance. -Bright said she's unsure why her mask collapsed. She thinks, in hindsight, that she should have opened her air bottle more. -Meanwhile, a radio dispatcher had spent several minutes trying to ascertain Craig's status. "Any information on the emergency button?" he asked around 3:06 a.m., according to the dispatch transcripts. "Still waiting on an explanation of the Mayday button," he said again over the radio at 3:08, the transcripts show. -Craig was found slumped near a window in the home's kitchen, sitting on the coiled-up hose. -In an interview last week, Craig's coworker Nyree Bright described a chaotic and confusing fire scene in which Craig's Mayday alarm went unheeded, and those who could have rescued her were not told she was missing. -Deputy Chief Rich Davison, the author of the incident review report, wrote that Deputy Commissioner Jesse Wilson - the department's second-in-command - had asked for redactions and explained his request with the suggestion that "some statements in the critique could hurt the city," according to a copy of the entry obtained by The Inquirer. It's terrible. Horrible...and tragic the outcome of this fire and RIP to FF Craig, but go after the manufacturers seems kind of moot. When you have a cluster of an incident such as this, no material equipment in the world is going to save you nor is it designed to if used improperly. I'm on the "Do Not Call" list, yet I'm getting 5 or more robocalls a day. Anyone else having this issue?

Empress EMS is the new contractor for Montefiore EMS. They are running 4 ALS trucks to start, as part of the NYC 911 EMS system, and went into service the other night after months of hard work and planning. This is one of the four trucks (2016 Ford F-350 4x4/AEV Traumahawk), and the Supervisor truck (2016 Ford Expedition).
