What I remember, from when I photographer in Hackensack with Mike Martinelli's help, the FD has a bus that covered during the day, and there was a Hackensack VAC that covered at night. HUMC provided the ALS. But, then the waters stirred and Hackensack formed a division with ambulances that wanted to take over EMS in the entire city, but they were embroiled in a legal battle. Every website I read is outdated or not clear on the subject. This is the most current info I could find: Hackensack FD website: Hackensack FD Ambulance: http://x635photos.com/displayimage-1418.html Hackensack VAC website: http://www.hackensackvac.org/ And Hackensack VAC's Ambulance 194 looks exactly like Hackensack FD's but with a new paint job.

How does a Grand Jury decide staffing? And what witness could they bring that would defend lower staffing?

http://www.sutphen.com/Truck.asp?truckid=1 Somers model has a more compact wheelbase due to the bucket placement, and it's also easier to get into the bucket in their model. I prefer the SPH, but these are still cool. Port Chester uses this style for Tower Ladder 2 as well.

Darien, CT will follow suit of Pelham Manor and rechasis their 1971 Mack CF/Aerialscope onto a brand new Seagrave single rear axle chasis, withy brand new body, and refurbished/upgraded aerial, bucket, and hydraulics (to Aerialscope II standards) by Seagrave. This was approved by the Town Of Darien this past Monday and the tower should be leaving for Seagrave in Wisconsin soon. This marks the second apparatus of this type sold by Excelsior Fire Apparatus Sales in Mamaroneck. http://darienfire.org/apparatus/tower-ladder-43-thumbnail/

You never know where you are going to find people! It's tragic though to think of the way she must have died...from what I have heard very slowly with her cellphone just beyond her reach. Fire in a diffficult to access wooded ravine in a mountainous area. Note Texas is in an exceptional drought and current tempature is 100 and dry with a moderate wind in that area currently. Large amount of fuel compounded by brush clearing dump site for large local residential subdivision (which this fire was in). Numerous local, county, and state resources on scene or responding. Evacuation of 900 homes is in progrss of a nearby developed portion of subdivision, shelter being opened at local HS. More on the incident, which at the time of this writing is still going: http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/blotter/entries/2011/06/16/brush_fire_forces_evacuation.html

Does anyone know what the status of Hartsdale TL-15 is? Last I knew, it was at Seagrave being evaluated for pre-existing mechanical problems as well as collision damage. In the meantime, Hartsdale is using Ladder 46, a 1976 Seagrave 100' that was replaced by New Fairfield CT VFD. Apparently, it is still sitting there untouched. Source says Hartsdale does not have the money to pay to get even the neccesary repairs done, which I don't beleive. Anyone know what's really going on?

From today's article, why would they look towards outside agencies and not hire from within? Also, why not just have a EMT/Medic ambulance therefore lessening the need for 36-M-1 instead of eventually ramping up to one? We're having tunnel vision with response times, but forgetting about patient care. An ALS intervention in a timely manner can save a life. I've said it a million times, and even I'm getting tired of listening to it....there needs to be a County based EMS system.

Yesterday, I decided to take a random trip to the Dallas-Fort Worth to go "photo hunting" - meaning seeing and photographing only what I can find....no intinerary, etc. I think this trip was a worthwhile hunt. Thanks! No, it was a MADHOUSE! I'll probaly go up when it slows down like first thing in the AM...although I don''t see that happening for a few hours. Or, maybe I'll save it for a treat whenever I go to California. Although I'm excited, it kind of lost it's luster to me since they expanded here. MAYBE if they move to the Central Texas area my feelings may change. And, by the way, Acadian bought out Central Texas Regional EMS (commercial provider) and is now operating in Williamnson, Temple, Nolanville, and Falls County. http://www.bizjournals.com/austin/news/2011/05/20/central-texas-ems-acquired.html They are literally buying their way up I-35 to Dallas-Fort Worth where I've heard they are looking at possible companies to buy, and are in negotations with an agency in Houston.

This evening, Stiloski's Automotive was called out with their 2010 Peterbilt-Jerr Dan 85 Ton Rotating Boom Heavy Wrecker to assist Sleepy Hollow FD and the MTA with removing a car that had careened off a cliff down about 40 feet, landing on active electrified railroad tracks. The vehicle rolled 3-4 times during it's decent. Stiloski's Rotator was able to remove the car quickly and easily. The incident was dispatched to Sleepy Hollow emergency services at 2005 hrs, Stiloski's had the car on a flatbed wrecker and out of their by 2100 hrs. Great shots as always, Eli! Looks like a lot of nice rigs this year. The BEMS ambulance looks weird on the Terastar chasis....and no Boston EMS bumper either!

I've seen so many agencies lately trying to put on a "band aid" fix to their staffing issues. While a County agency would be the best possible option logistically in my opinion, right now I don't think the County is in any place to lay the groundwork anytime soon. Instead, why doesn't the County solicit bids from commercial EMS providers (like they used to do with Stat Flight when they ran it when the were WCMC) to provide staffing solutions? The requirements could be that the winning bidder must supply an EMT and/or Paramedic to staff an ambulance from 6p-6a or 6a-6p. Any agency in Westchester can participate, short term or long term. This bid allows for the position of Coordinator to be staffed to run the program. It would also allow EMT's assigned to this to have 911 experience, EVOC experience, and all other neccesary traning. All the HR would also be handled by the contactor. Things like GPS and centralized dispatch would also be included by the contractor. And, a supervisor would be on the road 24/7. As for the physical ambulance and equipment, the contractee could decide what they want used, and if need be, their equipment or the contractors. Again, this would be available to any volunteer agency in Westchester, at a cost to be determined by a fee schedule. I know it's very idealistic, but it's a start.

I miss that show. Since New England Fire Apparatus, the Smeal dealer, has made numerous deliveries in Westchester this year, there's a lot to pick from for them to bring. They always have one or two from Westchester. Stoneham, MA's new Seagrave Engine may be there, and maybe Darien's remounted Seagrave-Aerialscope? Does Westchester Collectibles still make the rounds to these shows?

My example was that the county could be making millions of dollars off the park, by adding resturants, shows, festivals, re-opening unused sections, etc but, like many things, the County doesn't tap at the potential right in their own backyard.

This system could be specified and sent to bid for a contractor to provide those services. In return, they get to bill, and the exclusive franchise rights to certain nursing home and transports, and special events. If Westchester County can run an amusment park (and I think that's pretty cool even though they have no idea the potential cash they can make with some improvements and events, but I digress), then they certainly send an EMS system out to bid. All agencies could remain as first responder services if they wish, or shut down their operations. If they want to participate in EMS, fill out an application with the contractor. Maybe the language could include the VAC people "dibs" in their own area.
