  1. I like it! Looks great! Saw it sitting behind the door the other day, and wanted to photograph it, but I didn't know if anyone was there and I was trying to make time. The fit kind of reminds me of Ardsley Engine 164's bay in the old firehouse, and Hartsdale Engine 170's bay pre-renovation. Best of luck with it TFD!
  2. He has captured some awesome images during his career! I hope we'll continue to see his work!
  3. Great shots, Jimmy!
  4. How many "gates" does HPN have? (currently, not including the not used jetbridges) All the residents that complain should make the drive to LGA or EWR to go to Florida. Or be thankful they have an airport 5 minutes from their house. Also, for those aviation people in the know, do the planes make a quick ascent to minimize noise?
  5. Oh, and yes that is the old Grasslands Fire Brigade Engine that's sitting in the lot of a parking lot maintaience company. It's sad that they got rid of that....I'm sure a lot of departments could have put that to good use. Parking garages, brush fires, long driveways, limited manpower first outs, etc... Was there a mechanical problem? Was it declared surplus when they got that old yellow engine?
  6. It's because of the "new" stretchers. No more rolling out then lifting. I miss those lightweight aluminum Fernos. I know one of us Empress people from that time has a photo of several Empress trucks and a Supervisor clogging the bay. However, A-1 was never supposed to be blocked in.
  7. I have absolutely no idea. I found it that way. Maybe one of our Mount Vernon members could let us in on it?
  8. Thanks! It would be fo-sheezy if you were there. Pelham Manor. It's also their Village Hall, Police Station, DPW Yard, and home to 38-M-1. I went because I wanted to get some shots of their new Tower Ladder, but I didn't realize it was stacked behind the Engines, and it was around lunchtime so I didn't want to bother them. And Darien's was out for service. Thanks, Kyle. It's all photos, all day. No stopping to eat, no stopping for bathroom breaks. I didn't bring my HomePatrol. I borrowed my brother-in-laws car for that one day only, so I didn't feel like getting it all set up for that short amount of time. Got in late Wednesday night, had Thursday to shoot, and to the beach early on Friday. I ran out of time and missed the department I wanted to shoot most and Past Chief I wanted to visit with....Yorktown. And I was staying only a few blocks from their Station 2.
  9. Great article about a woodworker who makes fire appartus replicas out of wood. Incredible talent. http://fireengines.net/six_finger_firemen/index.htm
  10. There's no evidence IMO that this guy was hit in any way. He would have been way worse off had the rabid racoon attacked him. The Mount Pleasant Officer saved him from potentially more serious injuries.
  11. Newark SUCKS! I got to spend 8 more hours then I expected there on Monday. More on that on my blog later this week. As far as Westchester HPN, it has always been behind where it needs to be. (Anyone remember the Quonset hut?).Part of this is because of the NIMBY's who failed to do due dilligence when looking for a home. Personally, I'd like to see Southwest and jetBlue fly to their major hubs, that way you have a great number of choices. And, are there even stands for the larger aircraft to sit overnight, so they can get right out in the morning? As far as parking, even though land is short, I'm sure there are companies who would love to lease some land to build and operate a parking garage. Aren't there a number of vacant hangars, or a way to rearrange things? Maybe a parking garage somewhere with a Bee-Line feeder (relocating the County DPW Garage in West Harrison, put a structure in there?) Can maintainence or operations free up some land by relocqating some of their facilites? Has Southwest or jetBlue been contacted for financial assistance? I know in certain places, jetBlue has paid and even campaigned for airport improvements, such as Long Beach CA airport.
  12. A 12 year old in a group home for troubled children charged with a felony for this? I know it's wrong and should be penalized, there's a lot of potential danger he could have caused, but shouldn't Lincoln Hall have safeguards in place, and do we need prosecuting 12 year olds really adding to the overwhelmed court and jail syste? http://www.lohud.com/article/20110714/NEWS02/107140412/12-year-old-accused-pulling-fire-alarm-charged-felony
  13. When does the next batch of FDNY Engines go out to bid?

  16. There's really no information, but it looks like Ferrara is building a(nother) Hazmat 1 for FDNY: http://www.ferrarafire.com/CustomerSupport/InProduction/pages/4721/4721.html I'm suprised it would be on the Inferno chasis, as they are using the "Ultra" chasis for everything else now...
  17. I saw on another forum the the former Rescue 32-52 (1989 Mack/Saulsbury Ex FDNY Rescue 2) was "awaiting disposal". The former Tower Laddder was also shown. Exactly what does "disposal" mean? I hope that Mack Rescue doesn't head to the scrapyard! (Both apparatus were replaced by new Ferrara's earlier this year)
  18. Never saw one of these before. Pretty neat and efficient way to train without having to travel or needing a ton of hose/manpower.
  19. I know there was some turmoil a while back, but how is EMS is the City Of Hackensack currently delivered?
  20. Thanks, Cgrave. One more question.....is that Vanguard Inc. the same company that provides HUMC ALS that prior to their existence provided the area ALS response?
  21. Interesting. If this technology proves the hype, I wonder how long it will be so it's affordable for the average consumer?
  22. Awesome link! What is the fate of this shuttle?
  23. Not so much "secret rooms" or "secret passages", but many mansions and estates have hidden hallways and rooms for the staff so they are not seen when performing some of their duties or moving around the house.
  24. NYS Vehicle And Traffic Law: http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/ems/pdf/srgvat.pdf No, there is no law on that. (Personally) An emergency vehicle operator should drive in a reasonable and prudent mannor and adjust to the roadway. In a case like the TZ Bridge, you'll probaly go slower if you use lights and sirens, and increase potential for an MVA. And when going at highway speeds, many people can't even hear a siren, so in a lot of cases on highways, it's just easier to turn the lights and siren off anyway.
