You have excellent knowledge to share. Banning you for life from these forums would be doing a disservice to all those who visit and learn from this site. Your rep shows of 348'ish at the time of this writing, which shows that other members value your posts. Although religous discussion is generally off limits, this is a discussion of a news event that involved emergency services. Just as long as it doesn't get TOO involved.

This has made international news and is a pretty high profile incident. WCPD and Westchester County will be in the hotseat. Playland will get more bad publicity. Westchester County is going to get sued, and chances are they will probaly settle as do most government agencies do nowadays as it's far cheaper than standing their ground. There are probaly lawyers tripping over one another to take this case. The Muslim community in the US now has great publicity about how they are treated in the US.This is going to stir up cries of hatered and prejudice because of 9/11, during the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. From what I understand, this incident involved one woman, who was asked to remove her hijad for a ride. She got hostile with the ride operator, and other women came to her defense. As they went to get refunds, and as Playland officials were discussing this with the event organizers, things heated up even more. To note, there were 3,000 people at this event, and that's what drew PD response. It really doesn't matter how many PD vehicles there was, because in general most PD cars carry one officer each.

Empress recently took (re-delivery) of Truck 301, now remounted on a 2011 Ford F-350/Swab dedicated to the memory of Empress Lt. Thomas Salvatore. This is a Special Operations Supervisor Truck, and carries two sets of ALS gears, MCI equipment, and EMS related hazmat and technical rescue equipment.

Cool shots! Those ex-Military rigs make great high water rescue vehicles.

Are there any departments out there using Locution? If so, which features do you like and use? http://www.locution.com/home.htm

Great shots! I actually stayed in Cannon Beach for a couple of nights at this amazing "mountain lodge" style hotel right on the beach, by that big rock. The room was right on the beach. In fact, I have a photo of myself checking in on EMTBravo while I was away. We spent a night in Portland too, I LOVE Powell's books. It is gigantic, and has every book imginable, both new and used. I found and bought a copy of Fire Engineering's Firemans Handbook from 1910 there. Also visited family in Bend, didn't realize it was such a drive from Portland! And there was NOTHING in between. And I never knew that once you got over the mountains in Oregon going east, it's desert. Looks like you had a great time, saw some cool rigs (I like that Ford Mini Pumper Black Over Red). Thanks again for sharing!

That area always floods, even in the most minor of storms. Why they didn't evacuate I don't know. And this is exactly why Fairview has a boat and sent their members for swift water training.

I agree with your post above, but to clarify, and this is my opinion (and I'm allowed to have one whether you agree or disagree), the kitchen table is toxic and that is what I was reffering to. But that's a topic for a different thread. We could pick this apart forever. Now that everyone has camera phones and cameras that take videos, we're even more under the gun for criticism and everyone thinks that they are an expert by looking at photos and video. And many members speculate based on a second and vantage in time when a photo was taken. This, I have found, is why everyone complains about this forum. I've been involved in "Monday Morning Quarterbacking" in some threads, and people still hold a grudge against me for it. If someone on scene that is an officer wants to come on here and comment or give insight and maybe answer questions, fine. You guys need to encourage that to officers within your own departments. I'd love to see that. But they are under no obligation to answer to their tatics here, other then if they want to use this to enhance firefighter safety. So, relax on the critcism and speculation specific to this incident. I'm pretty sure this is not the first car fire these guys have put out, and I'm sure they can use the video to learn. Again, this is what I have found as the #1 reason that gives these forums a bad name, and discourage people from posting. I think a video like this is a great learning tool, but these types of threads actually make people not want to share their experiences. Everyone wants to criticize other departments, but when it comes to their own department, this site and I get slammed..... I think this is an excellent video to learn from and talk about tatics in a general form. But again, I'm sure the firefighters from Hastings and Yonkers WHO WERE THERE wouldn't appreciate speculation from people who weren't even there. Also, some members have made one line inflammatory comments attacking or taunting the staff that don't contribute to this discussion. The posts been removed, and for more info, read the forum rules. If you have a problem with the moderation of this forum, you can contact me or any of the staff members. Anti-negativity iniative:

I LOVE TR54's "ad", lol. They do have to compete with other brands that they are losing some market share to due to marketing. But Scott Packs are the standard, and having gotten the chance to see them at a trade show, I was impressed. There are a lot of brands that different departments use. Scott is the original, and developed specifically for firefighting operations. Other brands also market to industrial uses, and haven't done as much R&D on their packs. Also, when shopping for airpacks, remember to shop local and never buy from a dealer via mail order. Local distributors, like AAA Equipment in North White Plains or MES in Dutchess County, would be glad to give any department a demonstration and let firefighters try it out, and if you purchase from them, they will also do a class on the pack. They are also a one-stop shop, and can also offer station or mobile air compressors, and just about every firefighting accesory you can think of. Check out their site for more details: http://www.aaaemergency.com/ I'm still waiting for the day when they include thermal imaging into the mask.

Thanks for the photos! I love the layout inside!! Much smarter then some ambulances here in the US. Crestline makes some really nice ambulances.

Discount Electronics, has 4 locations throughout Austin. They sell on Dell, and refurbished Dell products they buy off corporate lease annd other programs. You can get a laptop for $199 ,desktops for $99 and monitors for $29. I bought a laptop from them a while ago to keep by the side of my bed so I could take care of problems with this site overnight without haveing to get out of bed. It came in excellent condition, and, since they come without all the crapware, and only Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers, it's performance is excellent. They also carry about any Dell part you may need. On their site, they have a number of videos on how to make simple repairs or installations on your Dell product. They are not a sketchy operation in any way, shape, or form. Check out their site for further details. The reason I'm posting this is because I believe it could benefit some members here. I hate Dell now after it's poor customer service (why do I get sent overseas and escalated when I can see the Dell world headquarters from my house!), but I have Dells and I love having this store local and being able to stop by whenever I want, as it's a great place to get great deals. Check it out at: http://www.discountelectronics.com/index.php *I'm not paid to promote this company and I have nothing to do with them....however many people don't know the deals they are missing out on here...when people ask me for computer reccomendations....I usually send them here if they are not looking for anything fancy.

I thought, when they first set up shop in Elmsford, in the office park across from Dana Rd (to be close to WMC), part of the agreement was for Transcare to provide an ambulance for the campus, and, in exchange, they got the lucrative WMC transport contract. Who is staffing the Stat Flight ground ambulances now? Still Transcare? I could be wrong, but that's what I remember. Also, and no offense to anyone, Greenburgh doesn't have enough EMS for their own district when I lived there, and from what I have heard multiple timmes, is that it is still the same. They want mort ambulances fully staffed on the street, but the Town doesn't want to pay for it. Plus, if you sent a Paramedic flycar or BLS ambulance, you are likely to be taking a Police Officer off the street as well if the civilian bus is on a call. Since the campus is under Westchester County's control, and in WCPD's jurisdiction, maybe we need to see a WCPD or DES ambulance, like in Nassau County. People can get injured on the campus and have to wait for an ambulance, yet if that patient was on fire during the weekday hours exluding holidays, you would have plenty of resources to put out the fire. Nobody wants to pay the bill for EMS, but when it comes to fire departments......

On my way home today northbound on I-35 service road, I saw a small plume of smoke. I looked over and saw a brush fire growing with heavy fuel and light wind gusts propelling the fire. No PD of FD on scene yet. Given the amount of smoke and the fact a brush unit was putting out a fire on the other side of the highway, I assumed 911 had been called. The staff of the cabinet store were trying to keep the fire back with garden hoses and fire extinguishers. I also saw a large propane tank. I quickly turned around, parked my car in a safe spot, and told the PD that there was a propane tank involved. I shouted to the people to get away from the fire and come to the front of the building. The owner let me know that there was another large propane tank in the back of the facility. Upon arrival of the first due engine, I let the officer know about this, and they made maneuvers to keep the fire away from the building as much as possible. They did not have a water supply besides the onboard tank, and later on in the incident mutual aid engines had to relay pump with 5 inch hoses for about half a mile, to the nearest hydrant south of the fire. Until then, most departments relied on their booster tankers. Round Rock FD, an urban department, has a tanker that responds with its brush truck. This water was kept to protect the building. Star Flight, our EMS-Fire-Rescue helicopter, provided aerial surveillance to the IC, and then initiated water drops. As of this writing, the fire is almost 100% contained, but that does not mean the fire is extinguished. Here are some aftermath photos. It's difficult to get a good shot of the area involved, however you can make comparisons in my original set. The photo where the double yellow line, it jumped over the roadway. They made an EXCELLENT stop, as you can see. The only structure lost was a rear marble fabrication building of a cabinet shop, which was saved. It's also pretty amazing to see an entire charred field, yet trees that still survive and look like they haven't been touched. Also, I've added some more photos to my original set: http://www.emtbravo.com/texas/incidents/goldstarfire.html

Looks like a lot of manufacturers are gearing up to take their share of the heavu duty vocational chasis matrket. Photo below, taken by me today, is of a Freightliner SD114 with an Ox Bodies Dump with fold up rear triaxle. http://www.freightlinertrucks.com/trucks/find-by-model/114SD/

Thanks! I wish I could have gotten better shots of it working, but it went charging into the heavy smoke and fire area and effectively knocked down a large portion of the fire. It's not a BRAT though. It's a Siddons Skeeter t5, which is our Texas Pierce dealer's version of the BRAT. https://www.facebook.com/skeeterbrushtruck?v=wall

I really, really don't care about what happens at the "kitchen table". That's an old school mentality that's toxic to the fire service. I'd rather be on a run or in a classroom. But that's irrelvant to this discussion. The staff and I decide what is criticism and what isn't. Any more questions regarding moderation or operations of this thread or site please contact me....please don't cause this positive thread to sprial downward. So far, no one has stopped by this thread to give us the rundown and answer questions. If you want the factual information of why their was 5 L/S/O I can provide you with contact information to the IC.

I repeat: We could pick this apart forever. Now that everyone has camera phones and cameras that take videos, we're always under the gun for criticism and everyone thinks that they are an expert. This is why everyone complains about this forum. A lot of the time, thinly veiled criticism is posed as a question. I think a video like this is a great learning tool, but these types of threads actually make people not want to share their experiences. Everyone wants to criticize other departments, but when it comes to their own department or themselves... I think this is an excellent video to learn from. But I'm sure Hastings and Yonkers wouldn't appreciate speculation. Let's continue this as a discussion of tatics, and not a "why" thread.

Thanks George! I'm waiting to see it as a plow truck (they have a package specifically for that) and as a heavy wrecker. I'm sure we will see some fire apparatus on this chasis, but it may be too heavy duty for standard use. From what I have learned, they made this truck to compete with the Mack Granite, International Paystar, and the supposedly coming soon CAT Vocational Chasis. (Personal note-nothing will ever trump a Mack)
