With the exception of SVI, Dallas has ran almost exclusively Spartan/Quality which now is Crimson. They recently recieved a very well spec'd Haz-Mat truck built by Pierce. Here's the video explaining the diffent features of the truck:

Anyone have any details on this unique piece of apparatus?

Tommy's Tahoe was a great truck, but also had a lot of issues. He stuck by it no matter what. It would be fitting.....lol

As I refelect back on what's happened in Novembers past, I always remember "Tommy Sal". It's been almost 12 years since his passing, on November 26th 1999, almost 12 years ago this Saturday. (Where has the time gone?) Tommy was a street Paramedic Supervisor for Empress EMS. I worked with him during the early years of my EMS career, back when I was an EMT and EMT-I. Tommy was alway laid back, friendly, approachable, and a great teacher. We did some calls I remember to this day, including my first esophogial verices call at the old B. Dalton in Yonkers, and cardiac arrest with extensive GI bleed in Mount Vernon. I remeber his love for his Supervisor's Tahoe, no matter how much it gave him problems! He always had a great spirit despite the valiant battle with Lupus and the health problems it caused him. I remember the last time I saw Tommy, it was on a ventilator at Sound Shore Medical Center's ICU where I visited as often as I could (often would sneak over a few times during my MV-A1 shifts or when I was off), and then at the funeral home across the street from city center. Tommy died of complications from Lupus disease. His death was a tremendous loss for the Empress EMS family, his own family, fiance, and friends, not to mention the EMS community as a whole. There's a whole new generation at Empress EMS now who probaly have a whole new set of supervisors. I come from when the old Empress was ending, and the "new" Empress was beginning to emerge. I remember "306 on the back", but there was nothing like hearing "301" on the air. (300 too, lol) I reflect on a lot of the EMS lessons he taught me, and to this day remember the wide variety of calls we did together. Tommy's fellow supervisors have gone on to new succesful careers now or have ascended up the Empress chain, but were just as awesome as him. I didn't realize it at the time, but it really was an era. I think about it, especially with all my fellow alumni who are active members of this forum. I remember the funeral, Rory Lynch and I were working Mount Vernon A-1. Although we were technically in service, we at least got to be at the church which was standing room only. I can still hear John R. from Yonkers PD ESU playing the bagpipes. The Empress EMS Family has dealt with more then it's share of tragedies over the years, but this one hit us all at the time particularly hard. And now being 32 myself, realizing Tommy was only 33, it reminds me how young he really was. And it's still good to see that the family spirit and support network at Empress EMS still exists. Remember 301. Support the Lupus Foundation and research: http://www.lupusny.org/ Tommy isn't the only one Lupus has affected in our emergency services community, and he would want to find the cure.

I'm glad to see this truck back on the street...it is nice for an EMS Supervisor to carry that variety of equipment for one city.....to my knowledge, no other commercial providers in the area do ths. But, is the "In Memory Of 301" lettering going to be applied?

What positions, and what affect will that have? I'm thinking there will be an Administrative order to merge DPS and DES next year. We all know the cost and feasability studies underway will reccomend what Astorino want. And DES was close to shutdown in 1997. The training field was basically condemed. There was only one classrom. Basically, Maryilyn and Gordon were the staff. There were hardly any instructors. Is there a standard as to what training a County has to offer the Fire Departments? And how is Westchester MAC funded?
-
Let me take this one step further. What would happen if DES is merged with DPS? Or the budget significantly reduced the amount of training classes offered? (or laid off instructors who teach the classes?) Or made massive cuts in the department, laying off already overworked staff? Has the Commisioner's position been filled yet, and have they formed a hiring comittee (or appointed John Cullen) and in that case, for a Deputy Commisioner? All I was able to read was an overview of the County Budget 2012. I wasn't able to get in depth. How will it affect DPS and DES? And my final question, a theoratical doomsday scenario, what if the County were to shut down DES?

It' sad one of the most dangerous parts of being a Police Officer nowadays is worrying about being hit on a traffic stop. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family for a quick and easy recovery.

UPDATE: If anyone has the full logistics for the funeral, please email so I can get them posted...

Are there even funds to build EMS stations right now? Also, is an FDNY EMS Station just a shift change and support services point, or are there areas for staff to eat, chill out, shower, etc? And on an unrelated note, are FDNY*EMS Members being paid a living wage now, and considered in the civil service world the same as firefighters? I know FDNY EMS is busy, but still.

Member #85. Where do I even start with how involved you have been with me and this website, lol? I remember when I started this site how wickedly popular you were on the Firehouse.com forums, and you brought that over here which started and added to many great discussions. As far as Rob goes, I should mention he is actually Member #2. During a software upgrade many moons ago, our numbers were bumped up by 1, so EMTBravo was #2 and RWC130 #3. The #1 is currently a phantom number.

Florida seems to love this concept.

This seems like an annual occurence, like a Christmas present to the Fire Department. Be one with other Unions, like DPW, and have them not collect trash and plow roads. City can't afford to protect it's citizens, how can they afford to keep these services? Let the trash pile up and the roads become inaccesible. Have the DPW send a letter as to why. What about, very publicly, showing the City's poor financial planning by allowing developers who would have built anyways millions in tax breaks. Why not, very publicly, go to the billionares and have them step up to protect the residents of the buildings they built? I know, will never happen, but can illustrate a point very well. In NY, can the FD Union have a "No Confidence" vote in the Mayor, or City Council? What about rallying to override the tax cap? Maybe hosting an mini academy for City Officials to show them WHY the personel they are cutting are needed? Or some PSA's for residents showing them how the Council is harming them. The City may not want to pay for it now, but ultimately they are going to pay for it in a lawsuit. There's plenty of blame to throw around, but I remember how public the decision was to close Engine 24, and at the last minute some politican became a "hero" by finding funding.
