WOW. Hard to believe this is an EMS station! Looks to be designed well and give FDNY*EMS crews the home they deserve. And note that the only time FDNY EMS crews see the station is during shift change, since they are posted on street corners. They designed this primarily to be an architectural masterpiece. They found the money to pay for this, but not raises? http://www.architecturalrecord.com/articles/12306-emergency-medical-service-station-50-by-deanwolf-architects

And some departments work 10 and 14's, with some guys having "mutual partners:, swapping shifts so they can essentially work a 24 oe 36 and have several consecutive days off. New Rochelle is comparable to White Plains in several ways. How many firefighters does New Rochelle have on a shift? @Bnechis

Here's another article about WPFD on LoHud today: "White Plains mayoral candidate: Fire department at 'breaking point'" http://www.lohud.com/story/news/local/westchester/white-plains/2017/02/25/milagros-lecuona-white-plains-mayor-fire-department/98398806/

*BREAKING...MAY CONTAIN RUMORS OR OTHER UNCONFIRMED INFORMATION* Through numerous credible sources, I've learned Transcare is going bankrupt at midnight tonight, and abandoning 911 contracts. I don't know what this means for the private emergency and transport sector, however. This really sucks for their employees, especially the ones with seniority, but at least it can lead to opportunities with companies that are better to work for. Let's also not forget all the jobs Transcare took from Empress and Abbey Richmond when they started Westchester operations, and what they did to OLM EMS, etc. As far as I know, and please add if you have: -WEMS will be taking over the 37-Medics (Mount Pleasant) -Empress will be taking over Mount Vernon EMS contract -Empress will be taking over the White Plains EMS contract -_________will be taking over the Putnam ALS contract *BREAKING...MAY CONTAIN RUMORS OR OTHER UNCONFIRMED INFORMATION*

Article in LoHud today about the subject. Very in depth, also spoke to the need to increase staffing in the area. http://www.lohud.com/story/marketplace/real-estate/new-rochelle/2017/02/22/new-rochelle-seeks-developer-fire-station-property/97993056/

Very interesting. First off a quality manufacturer, and the Pierce Enforcer is my new favorite chassis so glad to see that. Single axle. Knew that was a possibility but was betting on a tandem axle. But a pump? Is there going to be a change in tactics? (Photos of the drawing and a similar vehicle should load automatically below, give it a second) Very similar to the Pierce PUC Rescue that was delivered to Round Rock TX FD where I used to live. @x152 how/when will the pump be deployed? I know since the PUC came out it's allowed some very unique setups of rescues, engines, etc.

Glens Towing of Elmsford just took delivery recently of this beast of a wrecker that can tow anything. Hope to get a connection some more photos of the working end soon. Glen's is located in Elmsford, NY and specializes in hauling large equipment. They recently began covering I-287 as the authorized provider of heavy wrecker services. (This truck's NYSTA radio identifier is 511-4) Some of the specs include: 2008 Kenworth T800 Chassis 2016 B & B Industries Custom Wrecker 5 Axles 50 Ton, Integrated 3 Stage Boom 50,000 pound wheel lift Can handle 80 Tons Has the boom tubes of a 70-ton rotator (highly unique) Side Jack Legs Only two wreckers like this exist. Both of them belong to Glens Towing. I'd never heard of B&B Industries Wreckers before, but after looking through some of their builds, it is truly an amazing company that will build exactly what you want. Here's their website if you want to take a look at some: http://www.billbottoms.com/

Part of me will wonder what the agency would be like nowadays if it wasn't for the merger.

They train you to be an EMT. EMERGENCY MEDICAL SPECIALIST TRAINEE Exam No. 7014 http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcas/downloads/pdf/noes/201707014000.pdf

I heard that CFR (Certified First Responder) training is no longer given in Westchester's career fire academy. I remember when I went through the academy in 2005, it was required by the state to pass. I also didn't find it in the required courses on the NYS website: http://www.dhses.ny.gov/ofpc/training/fire-academy/state-certifications.cfm Since a majority of career departments call volume are EMS, over 80% in some districts, I really feel that being an EMT should be a perquisite, or training should be provided in the academy.
-
That's sad if it's true. Then what good are they on EMS calls? And doesn't the State reimburse the tuition fee for EMS exams? I know some departments, in the past, their Probies came in with a CFR cert from the academy. It's been several years since that point and the cert has expired, and the department has not invested in training and continuing education required to keep the cert up, yet still go on EMS calls. Firefighters wouldn't be allowed to go to a call without firefighting training. EMS training should be as respected and have parity with firefighter training especially if that's the majority of our call volume nowadays. I think removing the CFR curriculum for the academy is dangerous for the citizens they serve. Also, going with the antiquated CFR title, is useless nowadays. EMT is the standard from small rural departments to the largest cities. And again, EMT training can be fit into an academy class in a variety of ways. Also, I never thought about it. Do departments pay tuition for the Career Fire Academy?
-
But why not do it in the academy? EMT should be required to pass in order to graduate, Logistically, it's easiest to hold one during the academy.

That's crazy. Talk about luck. Glad no one was hurt. Any structural damage to the station?

I wonder how many sales tax dollars have been brought in by the Ridge Hill development, Cross County renovated mall, Stew Leonards, Home Depot, Lowes, Costco, and the Target that will commence construction later this year The city can't be crying poor. And there's plenty of different choices for land. If only they had built the baseball stadium during the "bubble". But it was foiled by all the merchants in the area that were against moving. Now all those merchants are out of business several years after "winning" the fight against the stadium. Yonkers would at least have a new Station 1, even if the stadium was a failure. Let's also not forget there's a station that was promised to be built at Ridge Hill by the developers, but that never happened.
