He is coming to speak on Easter Sunday to a church right down there street from me. They are expecting anywhere between 25,000 and 30,000 people, don't know how many will be bussed. And I am working that day. I hate him.

Awesome work, Robbie!

Besides Police Officers being my COWORKERS, or my COLLEGUES, in the same field as I to protect lives and property, just like firefighters, they never know if they'll come home safe. The criminal nowadays doesnt's match any sort of stereotype. We need to learn from Police Officers what they do and why, because we need to have the same situational awareness. Let's not forget that we "stage" so they can go in first to make sure that Fire and EMS doesn't get killed. Putting it another way, they put their lives on the lines for us when we "stage". This video is from several years ago and graphic, and much has been learned from it in the years since, but this Trooper didn't even have a chance to get out of his car. Who would have thought that old Grandpa would do this? (and if you can, listen to the whole incident afterwards). Responding units were even really confused as to what was going on, and more confusion was created by the suspect getting on the radio. Some of you may have seen this. Please, hindsight is 20/20, they should have put a bullet in him right then and there and had oppurtunities to do so, but there's a lot more to the story. RIP Trooper Randall Wade Vetter, Texas Department Of Public Safety, Texas Highway Patrol End of Watch: Monday, August 7, 2000 WARNING: Video is GRAPHIC. Injuries incompatible with life to the officer instantly, you can hear his agonal breathing in the background. It is DISTURBING. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=dbb_1266356082

Awesome photos! I love the variety! My Brother-In-Law lives in Vail, works on the Ski Lifts. And I have aunts, uncles, cousins , and friends who live in the Denver area. Now I have a place to stay and a reason to visit, lol!

It's become somewhat of a standard at an MVA to cut the battery. However, I'm starting to see some departments getting out of that standard. It seems like cutting the battery is causing a lot more harm then good. Some departments are cutting batteries when they don't or shouldn't even be cut, like on fender benders. For example, some FD's may cut the battery on a car that's blocking traffic but driveable. This delays clearing the roadway, which is important to prevent secondary collision and to get everyone out of traffic. Also, departments will cut the battery cable on a simple extrication (meaning just removing the patient) may hinder things, for example not being able to move power seats back. On the end of the car owner, cuting battery cables when they can easily be disconnected can cost hundreds of dollars to repair or replace. Whaddya y'all think?

I believe it depends on where you rank on the list, if I'm not mistaken.

Interesting. I do see their logic. However, I can see this law being used against innocent citizens, or setting an improper precendent. Read more here: http://www.star-telegram.com/2012/03/18/3818770/richland-hills-may-ban-photography.html#storylink=cpy

Thanks, Riverside80 for the insight. It's a beautiful truck, I know some guys from down here that were up when the truck was being completed and very impressed by it. Hope to see it in person one day. And their craftsmanship is amazing. Really overbuilt and with the firefighter in mind. Houston FD bought one for evaluation and put it with a company that does 20+ runs a day and it is holding up great. Dallas and Chicago use them exclusively as well for both Engines and Trucks.

That is awesome!

It's a Citizens On Patrol car. They don't respond to anything, and do not intervene, just drive around and look for stuff and help at large events. Mostly retired cops and other retirees wanting to help. Basically a proactive roving neighborhood watch.. I have no idea, never seen anything like it. I thought x129k would get a kick out of it, but I guess not.

I don't know if it was mentioned here, but thinking about it it's kind of ridiculous that there is no Quint designation but you can call an Engine a Rescue.
-
With what those guys see and with what goes on down there, I think that this is great. Gives the members a chance to do something positive.

Let's face it. Katonah has an actual downtown area that would benefit from a first-due Quint. The area could also benefit from a 75' Quint. Heck, I'm really starting to believe that a Quint should be as standard to a small department as a an Engine. And let's remember they are not just Quints. They have a ladder that could potentially rescue trapped occupants and save lives while waiting for a mutual aid truck, and a Quint can get an elevated master stream on the fire much quicker. Also, the Quint will probaly be able to get to the front of the building and setup much quicker. (Ideally) Altough I disagree with uneccesary spending, Katonah has a valid case for everything they've asked for. (That's my opinion, only)

Awesome! I love it!

I'm curious, now that TFD Riverside Hose has had it's new Spartan/Crimson Engine for a little while now, how do they like it? I know they wanted a Seagrave, but is the new engine meeting their needs and did they recieve the quality they expected? For full disclosure, I am a Crimson fan.

Wasn't part of the renovation in 1997 so they could fit the new Rescue? Also, were the floors an issue at that time? Glad to hear they will be using some of the money to construct, hopefully, a training structure and props. It's really a great central place to hold training. I also hope they will include sleeping quarters for firefighters who wish to stay at the station. especially during storms and eventually, one day if they have to hire career guys. I guess whatever they feel for the district is fine, but where is all this money coming from? I guess if you can afford to live in Katonah, the slight tax increase is a drop in the bucket.

It's amazing the role Facebook and Twitter has intensified bullying, especially girls. They are even meaner then boys!! I still mantain that bullying would go down if they let the kids beat the crap out of the bully "old school" style. And if some parents actually parented. Very interested to see the movie, thanks for the heads up!

INIT, I breifly read through what you linked to. Basically, there's any way to kick a FOIL request back. Thank you for educating me, it's been banged into my head that anything we do is Open Records or can end up in a court of law. Your info helped to enlighten me a bit. Personal experience has something to do with my personal perception still. I should correct my statement. If this was to become public, there is going to be a need for some answers. And I would assume a "cheating scandal" investigation, would, in some form, become elegible for FOIL. And, a smart PIO would release some documentation proactively.

I'm not trying to start any trouble at all here, just presenting fact for discussion. I have confirmed that there was an issue with cheating on the NYS Fire Captains Civil Service Exam. Specifically, a Career Firefighter in Westchester took the exam for the Westchester list, and it was discovered that he intentionally cheated by copying someone else's answers, and that person was knowingly helping him out. This person was appointed Captain, but now has been demoted and suspended pending an investigation. This may lead to the voiding of the list and everyone appointed to Captain from this list may be demoted due to the outcome of the investigation. I don't care about who this is or what department they work for, but does this speak anything about the intergrity of the person, department, or their ability to become a captain? What discipline issues could be involved, and would termination be a consequence? This person potentially comprimised other people's careers and the Civil Service process. I guess I'm asking what rules are in place regarding this type of situation? This is or will be available via the Open Records Act once the investigation is complete.
