I was thinking about, when I was in Ardsley (1993ish), there was a single SOP for all structure fires. One of them was notifying the water company to boost pressure, Is this still in anyone's SOP's?

Recently, I was speaking with a Chief about a new initiave he's taking. He is concerned about Volunteers getting to the Staion and apparatus responding above the speed limit. There are too many volunteers getting killed responding to a scene or even the firehouse. He tucks himself away in the primary response route, and takes the speed and safe driving of his members, from their POV to the Firehouse, and from the Firehouse to the scene. Since he's not a certified Peace Officer, he can't give tickets, nor does he want to. Instead, he'll be posting a "Wall Of Shame" in his firehouse, as well as giving appropriate discipline. *I can not say who or which department, as not to comprimise the operation.

I used to have a Jetta, and I loved it. I found, though, that parts and service can be expensive. I also don't want to have to lean down every time I get my daughter out of the car seat. Does anyone know if there's a noteable price difference between Chevy and GMC? Some of their models are just badge swaps. Final question: What's the differencesbetween Chevy and GMC?

As much as I LOVE my 2008 Ford Focus SE 2dr w/ manual transmission, it isn't exactly "family friendly". Nor can I carry a Kayak or Bike easily. I'm looking at a couple different vehicles. I like the Ford Edge, but the dealers down here can't keep them in stock they are going so fast. Then, I saw a commercial for GMC, and thought about the Acadia. So I went to their website, and found the GMC Terrain, a model I never knew existed. I want the whole in dash navigation and upgraded music.audio system, as well as nicely equipped. I have crappy credit, but I do have my car to trade in. Just looking for opinions of anyone who has experience with the above vehicles. *A big plus-I live 1 miles away from a variety of car dealers

Congrats and best of luck to all the new Officers! They have a really difficult job protecting the water supply for one of the largest cities in the world against terrorism and pollution, amongst many other duties. http://www.lohud.com/article/20120413/NEWS/304130085/They-cover-watershed-new-DEP-cops-sworn-in

Great article for the public to highlight Dispatchers during Telecommunicator Week! Now, if they would just compensate them and give them the same retirement in parity with other first responders.

Seems like a very good deal! I have heard it needs some work, though.

Looks like it could use some TLC, but definetly a classic. http://www.auctionsi...item=0000082198 I remember something, vaguely, about this being used as a Rescue/Support unit....and another used rescue purchased to replace it?

I liked the Crimson name better. They were developing a strong reputation under that name. I wonder if this was done so they could be a "single source" manufacturer. I wonder if they will rebrand the Spartan chasis for other manufacturers, or make it available. If they didn't make just the chasis for purchase, it will put a lot of small builders out of busines. Regardless, they build an excellent product.

The slug belongs to Georgetown Railroad, which is a subsidary of Texas Crushed Stone. They are a short line railroad, and use it to basically shuttle hopper cars with crushed limestone. Their yard is gigantic, and they have a whole bunch of subsidarys based off the railroad portion of the business. . http://en.wikipedia....getown_Railroad However, I've seen BNSF and Union Pacific picking up the cars directly. It does. Freightliner is really digging their claws into the heavy duty occupational market. It must be lucrative, because a lot of companies are also adding to their product line, such as CAT.

Using regular structural turnout gear reduces the firefighter's mobilty in tough terrain. It also increase fatigue, especially in high tempatures. If your department has the need for a brush truck, then you should have the need for brush turnout gear.

WIth NJMedic's list, that is a LOT of helicopters, especially when you figure in all the private and new helicopters also in the area. It's really a hit-or-miss profit game, and I wonder if Hackensack is doing this partly for publicity. How many PD's in the NJ area have helicopter?

With the choking traffic in New Jersey, does that play a role in medical transport via aviation?

Yes.

One of the many reasons I love photography. I like to shoot urban decay, especially in cities that once were great. I hope to get to Detroit one day, there are some beautiful buildings that tell the story of the city's past. Anyways, this guy took some photos from amazing angles: Photographs from dizzying heights These vertigo-inducing images were taken by a real-life spider-man who scales derelict buildings in Detroit to take astonishing birds-eye shots. Daredevil Dennis Maitland, 24, climbs into lift shafts, up former office blocks and over the edge of balconies to snap his incredible photos, looking directly down. http://news.yahoo.co...1333644178.html

I also must mention, my heart goes out to all the first responders, including APD Dispatchers, Austin-Travis County EMS, and AFD. This was a horrific scene and injury, and I see it ending some careers. I feel terrible for the Paramedic who had to pronounce this Officer. Hiis injuries were so severe that they couldn't even attempt to transport him. Also, Officer Padrone and his family live in my development, so it hits even closer to home. I can't wait until this guy is put to death. And I hope his roomate is arrested on some type of charge, I think he knows a lot more then what he is saying.

Absolutely tragic. Absolutely unreal. For Police Officers, and Police Dispatchers, nothing is ever "routine". News Article: http://www.statesman...ng-2288450.html Arrest Affdavit (Describing the entire incident in detail): http://alt.coxnewswe...0712officer.pdf Wal-Mart videos captured the entire incident on video, which I hope to never see released. RIP Officer Jaime Padrone. Thoughts and prayers for everyone involved, except the killer and anyone associated with him.
