  1. It depends. As far as LAFD and LACoFD goes, for Tillers, they can change them out if they need to, accident replacement, upgrade to a new tractor, etc. However, they generally like to keep the same tractor and trailer together as one unit. As far as the USAR and HazMat trailers, it used to be a Freightliner tractor, and the trailers were interchangeable. The new tractors, for the USAR and HazMat units of LACoFD, I believe are designed to work with that specific customized tractor. Theoretically, you ou can interchange the tractor if needed, or use any type of truck that has a 5th wheel to pull it technically.

  4. This is a great idea. It would be great for fire and other emergency vehicles.
  5. One of LAFD's new Pierce tillers, part of a 10 year contract for 40 of them. Of the seven that have been delivered so far, none have accepted for delivery, and one was put into service for about a day and then returned to the dealer. The trucks are having numerous issues, and quite possibly will be sent back to Pierce in Wisconsin to deal with the issues. The trucks have been sitting at the dealer for several months now.
  6. Next up is LA City FD's Fast Response 20, a 2015 Ram 5500 4x4. It's a Brush Truck, Paramedic Flycar, and a manpower squad rolled up into one. It operates during peak times. Read more about this unique unit: http://www.lafd.org/news/lafd-unveils-innovative-fast-response-vehicles
  7. Route 22 and Route 120 in North Castle this morning about 0715. Caught it on my way to work. Single vehicle hit pole and caught fire. As far as it is known, the driver was able to free himself and was uninjured.

  9. So, are we going to get walloped by a super snowstorm, or are we going to have only a couple inches? I vote a couple of inches. Be sure to add your vote to the poll above.
  10. RIP, a tragedy. There has been a lot stolen ambulances as of late, some with crew members and patients still inside. There needs to be a key fob or other system to immediately disable the ambulance.
  11. Guess I was a little off on my prediction LOL.

  14. I don't think this is your typical VIP visit. I think this is unprecedented. And I think this is the first time a President comes with such a large family, and has an iconic building that still houses his wife and child (which complicates things even more). The costs need to be reimbursed, as it's not the NYC's taxpayers responsibly to fund protection of the President, his family, and his 50 story building with his name plastered all over it in midtown Manhattan. The whole circumstance is a terrorists wet dream. This is a national responsibility to protect the President, and it's not fair to NYC's taxpayers. We're talking hundreds of millions of dollars here over 4 years if not more, considering a President is guarded by Secret Service for life. Although I'm not sure that the Fire and EMS resources have to be there. This was reported by several news outlets.

  17. Found this today at Brookfield, alongside all the other trucks awaiting demolition for scrap. From a Auctions International listing last month. According to that listing, this truck is in great shape, and numerous departments around the country would kill to have this engine. The winning bid was $4,200. I hope this is just passing through, and won't meet the scrap heap fate.

  19. It was replaced with a new, modern engine that fit the current needs of the fire company and department. The Village of Mamaroneck can afford to replace it's apparatus every 20 or so year with a new truck, and there are communities that can't. One mans trash is another mans treasure as the saying goes. And hundreds and hundreds of department across the nation, in some of the poorest and rural areas, this truck would have been a Cadillac. Top mounted pump controls, 1750 GPM pump, 750 gallon tank, light tower, upgraded LED lighting, 10k hydraulic generator, easy to maintain and durable Detroit Diesel engine with Allison automatic transmission. This engine could have a great second home somewhere it was desperately needed. Other local departments that have replaced apparatus have donated it to departments in need. Sleepy Hollow donated their Engine to Broad Channel FD after Hurricane Sandy. Mount Kisco FD Independent Engine Company donated their engine to a department upstate that was decimated by flooding. And Harrison donated one of their engines too a department down south after another disaster. Maybe Mamaroneck FD wanted to do the same but the Village decided this was the way to surplus it. It's too bad it can't be "rescued".
  20. A very interesting read. I never knew that the governance of MKFD was so complex. When you look at building 3 new firehouses ($22 million) vs building a single firehouse to house all companies ($14 million), it makes sense that it would be cheaper and more efficient to operate just one firehouse. However, the way Mount Kisco FD is set up, that isn't a feasible idea. http://mtkisco.dailyvoice.com/news/mount-kisco-mulls-expanding-firehouses/701979/#.WLjIn6rDVmQ.facebook
  21. Could this property be a contender for the new Station 1? Article mentions moving FD HQ's there from it's current rental property just down the street. Also mentions the storage of large city vehicles as a possible use. http://www.lohud.com/story/news/local/westchester/yonkers/2017/03/03/eminent-domain/98641630/
