  3. Does anybody have experience moving with pod-type systems (PODS, Pack Rat, Uhaul UBox, etc)? Anything I should know that they don't tell you, or watch out for? Good experience, bad experience?
  4. Really? Ford, at least used to, with such a large customer like NYSP, will paint it whatever color they want (given the order of multiple vehicles are on the line at the same time). You'd think Chevrolet would do the same.
  5. Awesome! Thanks for sharing the photos, and glad to have you as a member here! I'm always impressed on some of the very progressive features on apparatus from Europe and Australia. You usually see those ideas spec'd on US apparatus 10 years later, lol. Some apparatus committees could problay learn a lot from a trip down under. Looking forward to more photos.
  6. Thanks, guys for the advice. Much appreciated.
  7. Awesome photos! Who does that Seagrave, can't tell if it's an engine or rescue, belong(ed) to?

  11. FDNY's former Rescue 4, the 2002 E-One/Saulsbury purchased to replace the 1997 HME/Saulsbury destroyed on 9/11, is for sale. Just needs a little TLC, and it will be as good as new! (LOL) http://www.copart.com/c2/individualLot.html?lotId=26311032&searchType=onSaleNow

  14. I usually don't "buff" calls to take photos, unless it is immediately nearby or I come upon something. So, this afternoon, while going to the supermarket, I happened upon this car fire. Now, I know this is only a car fire, but since I don't buff many incidents, I'm taking this oppurtunity to share my photos. Date: 11-17-12" Time: 15:35hrs Location: Route 119 Westbound, just west of I-287 (opposite the Marriot Hotel) Elmsford/Tarrytown Border Units: Greenburgh PD Car 67, Greenburgh EMS Ambulance 79, Tarrytown FD Engine 77 and Engine 80, Elmsford FD Engine 137 and Ladder 55
  15. While it's sad that the gentleman died, and I don't mean to sound cold...but residents were given plenty of time to evacuate......and the elderly and disabled were not forgotten about. It was made clear several times that rescuers may not be able to reach and rescue people if they didn't evacuate. Dispatchers should not be immediately blamed as the cause of his death.
  16. The shutdown had been put on hold. The Judge has mandated that the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union go to into mediation with Hostess, something he was suprised they hadn't done already and leaves a huge question mark. http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2012/11/19/twinkies-hostess-mediation/1715415/
  17. I remember when it was one of the best arcades around....but the advent of home video games caused that to go downhill. And right now, it's WAY too big for just a fast food resturant. I hope they will at least preserve the classic Nathan's sign. http://yonkers.dailyvoice.com/business/yonkers-nathans-will-downsize-close-year
  18. I don't know how much I trust the NY Post and their sensationalism journalistic style, but I'm sure there were the some problems, given this was an unprecendented event. However, their article was mostly blamed on "claims" from the public, who, are ignorant about calltaking and dispatch operations and views that may have been skewed. In the article, they reference people calling 911 from the mandatory evacuation zone. Really? Those people should really shut up, because they ignored the evacuation orders and then called 911 when what was told was going to happen happened. They have no right to complain.
  19. It's going to take a long, long time, mainly for people to "trust" the technology.....but I'm convinced that technology will replace 99% of the Dispatchers job, and maybe quite a bit of the Calltakers as well. And if it cuts personel costs, politicans are going to be all about it.
  20. Kind of related....has Stamford replaced the Engines that were destroyed on I-95 a while back?

  22. I must add, I don't read every paper and magazine every day, so it's nice to come on here and find pertinent articles and not have to go to several other sites. Also, many good discussions have started from the articles posted.
  23. That whole facility has exceeded it's useful life and is obsolete for it's current needs. The smartest thing to do would be to knock it down and building a new one, instead of patching seemingly never-ending problems. Still, the roof is not something they should be dragging their feet on. Does anyone know how they voted last night?
