  4. Just wanted to wish everybody a very Merry Christmas, and I hope Santa brought you exactly what you wanted! I know, it's been a crappy Christmas season this year, with numerous sad and tragic events in the past few weeks....but it is still Christmas, and a time to be thankful, a time to give, and honor those we lost by keeping them in our thoughts and prayers, after all, they are in heaven looking down on us and wanting us to still have a merry Christmas..
  5. I was listening to the audio, when I heard "2 firefighters down....not good" that struck a big emotional cord with me, and I was done listening. The radio traffic was worse that what I had imagined. If I was that dispatcher, or EMS on scene, my career would be done. I'd be happy stocking the shelves at the Quicky Mart after something like this. I wouldn't want to see what else the world holds for emergency responders. Any innocent person who gets shot and killed is tragic, but when firefighters get gunned down like this, for emergency responders, I feel, it's worse. This is NOT an acceptable way for a firefighter to die! Nothing really is, but this is really hard to accept . I mean, you go to help someone, and they shoot you? Or they specifically design something to entrap you, for no explicable reason? I mean, this has happened to PD and EMS for a number of years, but now firefighters have to be worried about this to? I guess the newest firefighting class needs to be "Tactical Streetsmarts" like is tought in EMS, and the hottest new gear will be a bulletproof vest that fits in your turnout. Sad. As M'Ave so very well said.... Thoughts and prayers. This has got to stop. These are turning from isolated incidents into an epedemic. The best way to honor those who died is to do the right thing, whatever that may be.
  6. To those of us who celebrate the holiday, happy Festivus! Wish you all well in your airing of greivances and feats of strength! Festivus for the rest of us! Hope you all have your aluminum Festivus pole up.

  8. What a horrible thing for Stamford Firefighters and IC's to go through. Of course I feel for the victims, but having children inside and not being able to get or rescue them, I couldn't imagine. 16. The video is of a tow truck funeral procession with over 40 tow trucks in Chicago. Alyssa Van Meter, a tow truck driver from O'Hare Towing (and featured in the TV show "Wrecked") was murdered by her ex-boyfriend, also a O'Hare driver, Adam Belmont (he was on several episodes of "Wrecked") last Saturday. He scaled the wall to her second floor balcony, broke in, strangeled her, then stabbed her once in the heart with a knife she gave him as a present, then had sex with the corpse. I remember meeting both of them when I visited O'Hare Towing a few years back, they seemed like nice people. What is it with people? Ordinary people turning into brutal murderers. I was very shocked about this tragedy. 20. WOW! I'm shocked by this news. My heart dropped when I read this. Rich was an active member of this site, under the screenname "dadbo46" (Last Active Nov 25 2012 11:47 AM). I became friends with him through this site and he helped my interest in public transit. Last time I talked to him he was excited to retire to Orlando, FL. Rest in peace Rich.
