  1. And yet another incident yesterday, where one of the suspects in a pursuit originating from Yonkers: Seriously? At what point and what do you have to do to have your license revoked? http://www.lohud.com/article/20130111/NEWS/301110118/Parolees-smash-cruisers-wild-Thruway-chase?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|Frontpage
  2. It's good to see tow trucks are being included, and the law about it promoted! Tow trucks are crucial, as they move disabled and damaged vehicles from the dangers of high speed roadways, and as motorists, remove vehicles so the traffic can flow again. This law also expands to the HELP and DOT trucks as well. Read more: http://online.wsj.com/article/APb87b9c4375654662b1ebf648845b70db.html#printMode
  3. I think, if you consider all the costs that Police departments and courts have with investigations, arrests, trials, etc....those have to add up, too. Plus all the damage he has done to his victims, like the financial damage that occured with the latest crime.
  4. Some very interesting and valid points. Usually I don't read too much into studies that appear in the media, but this one is from a pretty reputable institution as far as studies go. And it's hard to argue some of the points, especially if you're in EMS. http://vitals.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/01/09/16433458-were-unhealthier-than-everyone-else-and-its-our-own-fault?lite
  5. Nice shots! Gotta love the reach of BHFD's TL-57! Also like the photos of the FAS Team all equipped, geared up, and ready to go. Sad for the people that lost all of their home, though.
  6. Thanks for the awesome photo, Joe! It's great to see the rig found a new home locally. Didn't this rig first serve on the Ward Pound Ridge Fire Brigade? I think I remember something about when they disbanded, it was aqquired by Pound Ridge FD with the condition that they provide fire protection to Ward Pound Ridge. I think maybe Westchester County still owns it to this day....which would explain how DES got it if I'm remembering correctly.

  9. This is one concept from the "Big 3" fast food chains that actually looks appealing. Would go nice with a Frosty. Oooo, I could go for a Frosty right now.... Read more: http://www.newstimes.com/business/article/Wendy-s-testing-a-pretzel-burger-4179223.php#ixzz2HVYMXkhC
  10. I know that most engines with a bell usually have it on the front bumper, and is rang through a string ran inside to the cab. However, this engine has no room on the front bumper to place anything, let alone a bell. So, their bell is mounted in a unique place...which leads me to the question....how do they ring the bell? http://gowansknight.com/New%20Fairfield%20Page.htm

  12. Looks like they will be fixing the roof. http://polhudson.lohudblogs.com/2013/01/08/bonding-approved-for-westchester-emergency-services-facility-roof/ It seems like they And I stand by my view that the current building is obsolete, and Westchester County is wasting money on numerous renovations over the years just to cram 10 pounds in a 1 pound sack. They should raze it, and build a modern, proper DES facility. At the very least, the 60 Control dispatchers need a modern, spacious communications center.
  13. Explain to me how this is different from the hundreds of PD's who use Dodge Chargers in the same conditions? It's an attentionn grabber because it is sharp and unique, and that was not the intention of the the purchase. It was purchased, for one reason, to save fuel, and because it was less expensive then an SUV. Other EMS agencies nationwide use Chargers succesfully, such as Wake County, NC. Empress is implementing a similar plan, read this article for more info: http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/4249886/

  15. Read this article about their plans to protest at Newtown funerals: http://newtown.patch.com/articles/westboro-baptist-church-member-says-group-will-picket-sandy-hook-elementary I usually don't make postings like this, and forum rules generally disallows this type of thread, but I took some liberty because these people need to be stopped somehow. They are planning, or at least are claiming to protest at funerals for the Sandy Hook Elementary victims. I don't know where to start on why the people is this group is worse then scum, and I'm quite suprised they haven't been assinated yet. Yes, I know that these people want media coverage, but they need to be stopped, 1st Amendment rights or not. Ignoring them, including the media, may be the best bet, will only lead them to be more intense. They push the 1st amendment to the extreme to push messages of extremism hate. This picture says a lot about them and what they do at funerals and do their best to make sure the mourning families see them. 16. Out of curiosity, if a firefighter under Westchester Civil Service rule, leaves the department, and wants to get re-hired in another department a couple of years later, do they have to go through the civil service process again?
  17. I commute on the Taconic/Saw Mill/Sprain parkways several times a week. Lately, I've been seeing numerous commercial vehicles on the parkway, and in the past 2 weeks, I've even seen 2 tractor trailers on the Saw Mill in Irvington....County PD was on it and stopped the trucks before they could do any damage. Besides the tractor trailer, did anything else change in the past 4 years that allows smaller commercial vehicles on the parkway? One of the common factors I'm seeing is GPS, which I'm convinced some people would drive into the Hudson River if the GPS told them to.....they are so focused on the GPS they don't pay attention to anything else. I really think there needs to be some more effective signage at each entrance to the parkways. Some don't even have any signage.
  18. I agree with Albert Snyder, father of a soldier killed in action, at which the funeral of his son was protested by Westboro. Quote from: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Supreme_Court/westboro-baptist-church-quadruple-military-funeral-protests-supreme/story?id=13039045 At least Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito agreed with the dad: And one of his daughters had this to say about the West Webster Firefighters who were shot and killed: The KKK even hates them! That, in itself, says a lot! Westboro has been banned from Britain. Too bad we can't do the same. And here's the Wikipedia article describing these wonderful people peacefully abiding by their First Amendment rights. Those defending them solely because of First Amendment rights or using the "if we silenced them then...." need to read up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westboro_Baptist_Church Thanks to the petition, the number one petition currently on the White House website, and the awareness it created, the citizens of this country are starting to stand up to them more and more
  19. But it doesn't have to be, and they would be perfect to make an example of. Also, numerous neo-nazi and skinhead groups are labled as a hate groups. Just because this group is after the GLBT community makes it no different then going after an ethnic minority. I don't put violence out of the picture for Westboro, as I feel they will do whatevever is neccesary to gain attention, especially with the current generation of hate-mongers they are breeding. Here's some information on hate groups the I hope is interesting to everyone: http://splcenter.org/Southern Poverty Law Center (Hate Groups) I agree with many of your points in your post. However, don't underestimate the power of social media. If anything, this petition at least got some attention in the media, and mobilized people against them and their actions. The USA didn't become as great as it is with complacent citizens.

  23. They are not a church, just a bunch of nutjobs. They use the church to gain tax-exempt status, so they aren't even paying any taxes. They make their money with their own in house law firm, run by the head nutjobs daughter, and they files numerous BS lawsuits claiming just about everyone is violating their civil rights. If anyone has Netflix On Demand, there is a documentary on them entitled "Fall From Grace". It's sickening to watch, but I encourage you to watch it to see what a cancer they are on society. All of their kids are being brought up with these disturbing views. They are literally inbreeding the next generation to spew this crap and continue the legacy of hate. Where do we draw the line between free speech and harrasment? What if they were protesting outside the White House threatening the President? I'm sure that would come to an end real fast. The only reason they have free speech is because of the soliders who died for it, the same soliders that they descrate and funerals they protest at. Kinda ironic. And they are a hate group because I hate them.
  24. This is a real sad statement on society. And I kinda feel it's capitalizing on fear. Read more: http://www.newstimes.com/news/crime/article/Colombia-firm-makes-armored-clothes-for-kids-4168021.php#ixzz2H34tC4s7
