  1. I saw one the other day directing traffic by the catering hall place on Route 6 in Mahopac. Caught my eye. Looks very sharp. BTW, where is their precinct?
  2. I think I have an idea for a new TV show....instead of house flipping........lol
  3. NYSP Troop K Trooper recieves Brummer Award for Bravery, NYSP's highest award, for his actions during this May 2012 home invasion in Poughkeepsie. Awesome job by Trooper Hoffman, and to all the 22 other Troopers who recieved awards last night for their heroic actions! http://www.wgrz.com/news/article/214798/37/Police-Honor-23-State-Troopers-Including-Two-from-WNY
  4. See, these cops saw a way to really assist some neighbors while on patrol. They did the right thing, and err'd in the favor of service. I'm sure there's a little girl and boy that are very grateful to FF's and Cops right now....the cat may not have been important to us, but it was to them to get there cat back. And some needed laughs will sure brighten anyones day for us! Good work all!
  5. Here's a blurb from the Worcester, MA funeral home, where one Boston Marathon bombing terrorists is being prepared for burial. The funeral home accepted the body since no one else the family could find would. This cast an international spotlight on the funeral home, and gave it a lot of "unwanted attention" from the area. Because of this, Worcester PD incurred an added overtime expense protecting the funeral home, which is a taxpaying business in the city. Worcester, like many cities in the "rust belt", isn't a very financially robust city where it has enough money to throw around at situations like this. Regardless of how the body should have been dealt with, that's water under the bridge...for now for this particular incident at this time. Should the city bear this expense that was incurred at the expense of one of it's taxpayer's,or is the cost of this something that should be absorbed at the state or federal level? Or should this have been a private matter with the funeral home bearing the responsibility of security, whether they reimburse the city or they should have to pay directly for a private security agency? .
  6. I keep getting confused with different perspectives on this, but is NY a "National Registry" state? I know they were converting over some things to NREMT standards, but what does that really mean?
  7. This photo was submitted by HFD201 and featured on EMTBravo.com May 12th, 2004. At the time the photo was submitted, Hartsdale was celebrating it's 100th Anniversary. Circa 1940's American Lafrance in front of Station 1 in the 1940's (S. Central Ave Hartsdale). This firehouse still stands almost identically as it did in the photo and is still active. Engine 170 is currently assigned to this firehouse.
  8. There's talk of regionalized high speed rail, haven't heard of a coast to coast solution. The only high speed line that I know about that may actually get off the ground is a high speed rail line in Texas connecting Houston, Houston's northern suburbs, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, and Fort Worth-and maybe an east Texas and west Texas branches. As far as north to south, I feel it would be really popular if the Acela ran from Boston-Miami high speed, with select limited other stops . The investment in infastructure and trainsets would be huge, but I feel the investment would pay off in the long run. You'd take traffic off I-95, too. However, being that NY-FL routes are many airlines bread and butter, I think they would put up a huge lobby against it. I'd much rather, and will whenever possible, take a train, not just because I am a rail fan (well, that is a big reason), but it beats the hassle of flying for shorter routes. I also have the same questions as you guys, and know there is a lot of limitations on the Northeast corridor, but there are many rather simple fixes but not simple money.
  9. Found this on another site. Definetly refurbished FDNY. The way they leave these things when they go to auction nowadays, it seems it's no choice to send them to Brookfield given the metal prices. It's got to be a serious investment in both money, time, and parts. http://www.firetruckmall.com/AvailableTrucks/TruckDetails.aspx?Id=480 On another note, has FDNY disposed or repurposed any of the ex-E-One/Saulsbury's? I know a couple had major damage over their time in service, and wonder if this was one of them.
  10. Nice job! Read more: http://yonkers.dailyvoice.com/police-fire/runaway-suv-rolls-down-yonkers-ave-firefighters-thwart-disaster

  12. Fleet maintenance for an ambulance is not an emergency response, whatsoever. It could have scuba divers or have kryptonite. I'm curous too, and I'm sure someone on here knows and will put the speculation to rest shortly. It could just simply be a supervisor's vehicle or a flycar. Just because it's a van doesn't mean anything. Organ transports are increasingly being picked up by commercial EMS agencies as contract add-ons. Also, Cambridge, MA uses Ford Econoline vans as Paramedic flycars. It's not common but not unheard of. "Emergency Response Unit" means nothing, it's just lettering indicating that it is an emergency response unit. A drive through the metro area could show an emergency vehicle with a variety of lettering and descriptors. The link should be fixed and working, and for most browsers, the video can be player right from this thread. No?
  13. Doesn't matter now where or how the body was disposed of.......his family is paying the expenses, and the funeral home accepted the body for whatever they wanted to do with it. I'm sure there would be one or more individuals out there wanting to gain access to the body for various reasons, and damage to the funeral home. The issue was protection of a tax paying business under high scrutiny for accepting the body in the first place in this city. The question is...who should have paid, realistically, for this police overtime detail?
  14. I'm curious.........why hasn't anyone built anything there.....you'd think developers would be tripping over each other for the waterfront property to build a mixed use development, and Sleepy Hollow could get a surge of revenue. I would think it would be held up now, it seems perfect for the new TZ construction staging area. What am I missing here?

  16. Missed today, too. Seems like just a visit to the Danbury Rail and NYC Transit museum moved to the most beautiful building in the word, Grand Central. I like going to the DRM during weekday hours, when you can pour over some of these cars and engines as much as you want. Great way to commemerate the 100th, just wish they did something for the TRUE railfans there as well. They better have a Croton-Harmon Shops open house this year, or that robot and I are going to have some words!
  17. GREAT shots K!!! Is that Fire-EMS cart manned 24/7?
  18. Thanks for the insight, guys! I am fascinated by the history of the plant, and continue to look at how much potential it has and wish that I was a millionare developer. How much did North Tarrytown lose in tax dollar by the plant closing? And how much do they continue to lose (projected)? Considering it is riverfront property, with extensive Metro-North and Amtrak potential and being just south of Scarboro, I'm just suprised that developers like Forest City Ratner (Barclays Center-Atlantic Railyards development, Yonkers Ridge Hill, etc) , Capelli, etc weren't tripping over one another to get this, even after the economy turned. Must be some really, really expensive toxic stuff to clean up. And wasn' there, at one time at the height of NASCAR, rumor of a track being built there? That was the craziest rumor that I heard.
  19. I thought the same thing too. I wonder how mileage is calculate on a custom chasis fire truck......if they replaced the engine or another component, does that restart the mileage?
  20. Does anyone have recommendations as to what frequencies or agencies are best to monitor for jobs in the central Mohegan area?
  21. Thanks for the heads up, guys. I've always tried to check platforms and times to see if I can get the train I feel like riding that day outbound from GCT, and usually have to settle. And whenever I do, of course, always pass an inbound train that I wanted. LOL. Wanted to get down there early today, but wasn't feeling great so I postponed until tomorrow. But I had heard today was crazy (did anyone go?), so maybe tomorrow will be better then today was?
  22. Empress EMS 301 2013 Ford E-450 6.8 L Gas/AEV Traumahawk 148" Type III One of two delivered, also two Type II Vans were delivered as well. They should be in service shortly. This one is at Putnam Window Tint for lettering, and after radio installation and outfitting with equipment, should be in service shortly.
  23. Thanks, guys. I like listening to these channels, I just wish I could listen to tone-outs only sometimes. I have a scanner that is capable of that, it'sjust tough to fugure out.
  24. I doubt it. Maybe, hopefully one of the streaming networks like NetFlix trying for original content will. NBC actually cancelled "Southland" after one season, and TNT picked it up and rescued it. I personally feel that the 8 months between seasons is not good for the show, and TNT and cable in general has way too many crime dramas. That news sucks. All the reasonably accurate shows seem to get cancelled, like the "Chicago Code" on Fox, despite ratings or even giving the show a chance. I don't understand how they cancel shows that are ready to go before they even get a chance. They'd rather show celebrities diving into pools, or glamourize idiots such as most of MTV does.
