  1. The intent of fleet day is for fleet managers and people who spec and buy municipal vehicles and equipment to get out there and see other agencies vehicles and for dealers to display what they have to offer, and bring it locally instead of having to travel to trade shos. As the flyer says, it's presented by Westchester County DPW Purchasing. Titled "Westchester County Safety Training".It also says Safety-Maintence-Equipment" and "Police-Emergency Services-Public Works". It's not really a show off of apparatus, and is held during the week near purchasing budget time when most of the people who actually purchase these vehicles are working and could attend. I don't think a lot of the targeted crowd, like Village Managers and Police/Fire Chiefs, would come on their days off on weekends. I'd like to see more vehicle vendors and upfitters though so some agencies can see the diversity of what the market has to offer, and where should be a lot of people who normally don't attend trade shows.
  2. Well, I guess this was a matter of time. Due to the numerous people who submit photos for FREE to for-profit media websites (who in turn make thousands off their "Reader Submitted Photo"), this has now claimed the careers of 28 more photojournalists. I say more because newspapers and websites all over the country are phasing out their talented, experienced, insightful photojournalists who capture amazing photos with some random person in the right place at the right time. Hopefully, the reporters stand with the photographers. Despite the decline of newspapers, regardless, great photos sell papers and bring readers to articles. 3. Heard that Yonkers Rescue 1 (Apparatus only-2007 American LaFrance) is out of service "for a while"? Anyone know what happened, or for what "for a while" means? All I know is that it's not collision related. I hope it's not warranty related, dealing with ALF at trade shows, even to get parts or a place to repair them under contract from ALF has been very murky lately. Would it be Campbell Supply that still has to deal with it, even though they dumped ALF?
  4. True? Implications to Yonkers emergency services? http://yonkers.dailyvoice.com/politics/yonkers-city-council-approves-991-million-budget-time

  6. Wasn't the role of "Safety Officer" initially for firefighter tracking, and wasn't that supposed to be updated to updated to "Entry/Exit Officer"? Who would monitor these system on the fireground, and is there any backup system in place? I like the question wraftery is asking, why isn't this AT LEAST a regional standard, especially with the reliance on mutual aid for even the most basic room and contents fire.
  7. I've seen some new features and technology being advertised...what's actually upgrading standards and what is just new technology?
  8. Whatever the district's governors feel that is neccesary, in line with what standards and guidelines reccomend. I'm just enjoying discussing different people views and insights on one of the most important, essential tools we carry and how much of it that we do. I do feel, that, in today's world, never say never. How much do LDH do you think an Engine should carry?
  9. Summerfield St C/S Dunwoodie St Eastchester Here is the Google Streetview with Engine 31 sitting out front.
  10. Appears Eastchester PD has taken delivery of two new Dodge Chargers and two new Ford Police Interceptors (old style) with a new paint scheme.
  11. My statements are based off of not everyday fires, but big fire, big water type of fires. Well, if the first or second due lays in, and they don't have enough hose, or a main fails and they have to stretch to another hydrant, then what? Once ladders and rescues and chiefs cars stage wherever they want, it is quite difficult to stretch more LDH in. If people are buying 2,000 GPM pumpers, then they should be able to able to input and output 2,000 gpm and have the hose to do it with. And I thought relay pumping friction loss went down to 0 each time it hit the next engines pump? So, if New Rochelle's water mains go down, as we've seen in other surrounding cities over the past few years, let's say for this story near the New Rochelle Mall, at the height of traffic, would it be easier for a tanker shuttle or to pump water from the Long Island Sound up? Yonkers, in the tree streets, hydrant system sucks up there, wouldn't a stretch of LDH be easier? So, flip side of the question. For a rural department with limited to no hydrants, and long stretches due to narrow roads and driveways, is this too much LDH? Keep in mind this is on a water supply engine, not a city service or suppresion engine. And for those true FDNY buffs, let's not forget the "Super Pumper" concept. Or the Philadelphia "Pipeline" concept. Or, in modern day, the NJ Neptune High flow 6" system they have in place.
  12. But how do you really determine that? Isn't it better to have more then not enough? I'm honestly asking, not telling.
  13. In addition to what PEMO3 said... I was in Eastchester the other day, and I saw the cops driving old beat up Crown Vic's with a dated graphics scheme. So when I saw these cars, I was happy for them. Someone please tell me that the career officers are getting nicer cars as well!
  14. Thanks Brendan. nice to meet you too. I hope to see more people next month...definitely a GREAT value, great food, and great company. See everyone the first Sunday in July so we can I can meet more of you guys, and hopefully I'll bring my appetite next time. Centennial Hose=Great People

  16. I'm hoping to go in the morning...
  17. EMTBravoWest & EMTBravoNation will be back very soon, actually working on it as we speak.
  18. I want one! Would be really fun! Isn't it basically like an R/C airplane with a camera? It could really be a game changer for some fires, especially brush/wildland. I know Detroit FD doesn't own or operate it, but they should just let fires burn....it would be safer and a good form of urban renewal.
  19. Holy crap. I just realized I spent a day at Station 68 a couple of years ago, and even posted the photos. Same shift, too. Small world, very sad. Station 68 is one of the busiest in the city as well. Rob Garner was the Probie at the time, and operating the BBQ. http://www.firehouse68.com/
  20. It looked a lot taller then the Mega Bus though.
  21. Texas sure has taken quite a hit with several multiple LODD fires this year. Dallas, Bryan, and Houston have all recently experienced this, as well as a number of single LODD's throughout the state, including another LODD in Houston in March. There were also numerous injuries at this fire as well, some critical. Thoughts and prayers. Houston is the largest city in Texas, fourth largest city in the nation, and the third largest fire department in the US, covering over 2 milllion people over 654 square miles. Their FD is very busy and experienced. Houston FD Live Incident CAD: http://cbtcws.cityofhouston.gov/ActiveIncidents/HFDIncidents.aspx
  22. Mount Vernon and Sound Shore Hospitals both filed for bankruptcy this week. Their talks to merge with Westchester Medical Center ended a few weeks ago, and they declared bankruptcy to clear Montefiore to take over. The sale price is said to be around $50 million. I don't see Mount Vernon surviving as a hospital, especially with OLM/Monte North being so close. But it could be a positive that local hospitals are affiliated with a major network.
  23. Pretty neat classic clip from 1927 of FDNY Chief John Kenlon responding to a working fire. A very hairy response! No sound original video: http://entertainment.msn.com/videopreview/?channelindex=4&from=en-us_msnhp#/video/7b650af5-992e-46c3-cf56-ddfc993ba7dd
  24. Does anyone out there have any rough designs or concepts to share?
  25. Caught Hartsdale FD TL-15 back in service this morning, after being absent for a couple of years. It appears as if the boom interior was refurbished, the hydraulic lift pistons repaired, and a repaired bucket with side panels (vs the curtains) and bucket mount fabricated. All the other components on the boom remain the same (reels, lights, controls etc). As far as the body, only difference I saw was the convex mirror was moved to the middle of the front of the truck. Basically just the damage repaired. Maybe someone from HFD could give us further details.
