Members, We have created a forum to be a "one stop shop" for NYSP's 2013 Trooper Recruitment Campaign. The New York State Police will be holding examinations for the position of New York State Trooper in October. As of yesterday afternoon, Station 6 is still alive and well and TL-17 is still missing. Is the North End Station going to re-open, and TL-17 going to return anytime soon?

For years, I've been toying with the idea of creating a logo or patch for the site. I put it out to the members a few months ago, and we have a winner. Paul R. Gerardi, "LTFIREPRG" (retired Deputy Chief Fairview FD), came up with this amazing design for the site, almost instantaneously. I feel it really reflects the theme of this site, and carries the "Work Together Win Together" message. The details take into account what this site is for, who it is for, and ties it all together. There are a lot of little subtle details that make it even more awesome. I thank him so much for making this dream that I've had over the years and making it a reality. And I never knew talented artist was one of his many, many skillsets! He is a generous and frequent donor to the site, and this contribution to the site is just another way he has helped to make this site better. Thanks Chief for everything you've done for this site, for this, and for me. As soon as I get enough funding, this design will become a patch and a decal, most likely this fall (unless someone wants to sponsor the production of this patch or decal) So here it is:

Nice! I know this is grant funded, and based on the colors, I assume it was PD who got the grant. I would like to see the Empress patch on it though.

I would have rather worked a couple of years (or even my career) in Detroit or Mount Vernon before starting out in a department that barely saw any real structure fires. That experience would be invaluable. And a lot of their fires are abandoned structures and defensive operations. Still can teach a lot. The people who truly love the job don't do it for the money, they do it because they love it and they love helping people, not themselves. Just like when I started in EMS, I worked Yonkers and Mount Vernon for the experience, and the foundation really served me well throughout my career. High call volume that really kicked your butt most days with a mix of everything from massive trauma to cardiac arrests to you name it. Money wasn't great when I started, and their was no pension. I think their are many people in the City Of Detroit looking for any type of work. For the near future, it isn't going to be anything like it used to be. But employ people from the community who need the jobs. That benefits the community in a number of ways. Pensions are hard to come by nowadays, and I think they will become few and far between. But until the US decides to encourage car makers and other industries to return to Detroit, that city is going to have to get by on skin and bones. There are so many people that just sit there and dwell on the negative and throw blame around, instead of focusing on reality and what can actually be done to help and move forward whatever the circumstances may be.

Heck, if I could still hack, I'd probably try for a couple of years....probably a great place to get some experience, even if it's just surround and drown.

How does one apply for jobs at DPW's in Westchester? I've never seen a posting or civil service exam for municipalities, and just curious how to get a job with one.

Can't remember where this one is from, but it is a 2007 Spartan/Crimson that was shown at the 2007 New England Chief's show. The bumper hydraulically tilts for easier access.

I think there are instances where the C&O team would need to get somewhere as quickly as possible, or have emergency lights in some situations. The longer incidents wait for C&O, the more the evidence deteriorates or is compromised. Also, in situations like multiple brush or dumpster "firebug" type fires, they may need to move quickly from scene to scene. As firefighters, we're trained on how to "preserve evidence" during initial attack in basic training, but I know we don't do a great job of it on many occasions. At least that's how it was explained to me in TX, but we have a lot of C&O/Arson/Fire Investigation experts on this board and may have different viewpoints.
