  1. I would love to apply if I could, but I hate you have to move to NYC. I would imagine that shuts out a lot of potentially good candidates.
  2. I've heard a credible rumor that FDNY has a pilot program to replace 1 3/4 hose with 2" hose specially made for FDNY. I believe 5 Engine companies are participating in the pilot program. Does anyone have more information on this?
  3. I feel cops have it different. If you look at the stats, they have an instant suicide device that doesn't allow for much time to back out or survive.
  4. Saw Mount Vernon Spare Ladder 3, the 1988 E-One 95' RM on Central Ave the other day....Hartsdale has been borrowing it from them since 2011...are they still?
  5. No repaint. Hartsdale lettering will be placed on truck. Will be known as Ladder 54.
  6. ADD/ADHD is a completely different issue in mental health and prescriptions today. IMO, it comes down to parenting today and the pharmas promoting a "solve it all" pill and society relying on that. Honestly, ADHD could be solved if children were still allowed to be afraid of their parents if they screw up or misbehave, and parents being parents and not "friends" with their children. But I digress. There's a wide range of other more serious mental problems that I'm talking about that affect emergency services.
  7. Oh, don't worry yourself too much people. It's going to be easy to restore to it's former glory. One step at a time. After all, it's just a reserve engine, and striping peels off real easy I know there's a lot of interest, but the fire museum has been a dream for a long time. The frontline of Yonkers FD has way too much on it's plate right now to deal with a museum. So, there needs to be someone with a lot of time and a lot of connections to lobby for a museum from the city, which is more interested in other projects then preserving the history of one of the best departments in the country. There are a lot of other relics in firehouses across Yonkers. It just takes a lot of work to lobby for the money, build the museum, and find volunteers to staff it. And I wonder what attendance would even be?

  9. I'm not talking about response to specific incidents, I'm talking about chronic, long term things. Depression, anxiety, etc. Just a career in EMS alone without any "major" incidents can (and has) taken it's toll. And these teams don't do anything PRO-active to get out there and address the issue before it becomes life threatening. Many benefit plans include EAP, but most of them are a joke. Some cities are starting mental health units or contracting with similar to provide an array of needs catering to stress and mental illness specific to emergency responders, their jobs, personal lives, etc. T There is also a lot of drug and alcohol abuse, and it killed one of my mentors recently, which was ultimately caused by his heroics on the job. That department doesn't recognize mental illness or substance abuse as a legitimate medical condition, and often use it to make fun of someone or use it to bully or harass them.. When was the last time anyone saw a suicide or mental health hotline or awareness poster posted in a firehouse, precinct, or EMS Station?
  10. R1SmokeEater, I'm glad to see you are back here posting! We were just talking the other day about how we miss you.
  11. Traumatic Brain Injury x 2, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Interstitial Cystitis, and several others I don't want to share on here. I'd ideally like to look similar to Randy Orton, who had a similar body type to me when he was younger. We are both the same age.
  12. I don't have healthcare insurance right now or for a while, so I'm just going off bits and pieces I've been told over the past year and over the course of all this..
  13. I'm aware. Now they have a second tower ladder as well, which they purchased from Mount Vernon for $5000 and is now officially theirs.

  18. Thanks guys for all the advice. I'm very limited on what I can do exercise-wise as the doctor's wont approve certain things, I just want to lose weight and get some muscle back as well as the endorphins. I will have some follow up questions later.....
  19. Who was the Mack fire truck dealer in the NYC Metro area?
  20. As it sat tonight....very sad. I hope someone finds some garage space real soon, all that hard work is starting to feel the elements...(excuse the quality, cell phone shot)
  21. Spy Shots Westchester County DES New C&O Zone (TBA) scene response trucks. (2) 2013 Chevrolet C3500/Supreme Body WC Fleet # 567620 and # 567621
  22. I very recently moved back to my hometown here in Westchester, in Ardsley. While going through unpacking, I found this. It brought a tear to my eye. I loved, and I mean loved, the people who I worked with at 60 Control. They made this for me the first day of Career Probie School at WCFTC in 2005. I miss working there (60), and truthfully, I should have never left. (Like the socks 614?)
  23. Funny, I heard the same thing the other day, and was PISSED, especially after knowing all the hard work, dedication, and love behind the restoration. It came out beautiful, and I took the photo below shortly after it was restored and going to appear in the Columbus Day Parade. Maybe one day, my dream for a Yonkers FD Training Center and Museum will come to fruition. Until then, I can't believe that there's no place to store it in all of YONKERS (not in an upstate warehouse). No City agency or private business has garage space to donate? And I hope it will appear at the EMTBravo Muster in 2014 if the truck's still alive.
