  1. We are a Village owned Fire Department therefore we don't have commissioners, all the board members are not firefighters, once in a while we may get a member to get elected to the village board but that is rare. In my experience as Chief I found that as long as you do your homework make your presentation and justify it, they will support you. Maybe we are one of the lucky few departments with a village board that for the most part supports us.
  2. Barry- Regarding your post, that isn't a conflict of interest, that's just good old fashioned politics! LOL
  3. you are right Squig but think of how much pleasure I would have gotten!!!!! For both of us.
  4. Nice of you to say that Kenny but honestly I would not have done anyhting differrently. Well maybe if a certain former police chief had been there I could have plugged the gas line with him. LOL
  5. Thanks 47, I was afraid of that.
  6. as x129k said it's just a car. If the car is unoccupied and not endagering lives or other real property why then do we respond lights & siren? Has anyone ever seen that video 2nd due at a car fire?
  7. Great job by "da" Point, great party as usual. If you missed it, you missed s good time.
  8. In 1981 my rookie class there was A Rick White from Hastings PD, is this latest tragedy a relative of his? My sincerest condolences to the White family, The Dobbs Ferry PD and Dobbs Ferry FD. RIP Brother.
  9. this old cop's (now retired) salary fed you pretty well for a long time!
  10. well said Squig. Son you don't have to explaind anything to anyone! Except maybe me, LOL.
  11. I had the pleasure of being a Chief in Croton while John was a Chief in Millwood, he always had a smile and was one hell of a friendly gentleman. It was a pleasure serving with him and being able to call him my friend. RIP John. My sincerest condolences to his family.
  12. Verplanck E-128 was also on standby in their own Qtrs and Buchanan Engine relocated to the VA.
  13. I believe the yorktown suburban mentioned went from being a chiefs vehicle converted to a utility then it bacame the first vehicle for C&O zone 4 car 1404, later followed by an ambulance donated by the Somers fire district and since replaced by an ambulance from the Verplanck fire protective district which is the current 1404.
  14. cop cars - the diplomat was the biggest piece of crap I ever drove while on the job, it handled like poopy. At 1 time we had an older grnad fury that was the detectives car then got painter and put in the fleet, that was a blast to drive a good old 440
  15. AHHH the good old twinsonic one of the orginal and first one unit lightbars, i remember after some time the chains in these bars would stretch and kink. and the old original federal switchbox. Memories.
  16. I think my friend Tommy mentioned the airbag, the airbag did not deploy as the crunhing took place above the bumper and yes the bucket was about 6" from her face when I went over nand took a quick look before getting back to my pump panel.
  17. I know ChiefHac, Fire Capt and alsfirefighter and I have the utmost respect for all 3 of them, they are truly assets to the Fire Service. Congratulations gentlemen.
  18. You are 100% correct, car 2 and I were discussing that at the scene today, I drove the old 44 truck.
  19. you can put all the lights and sirens you want on an emergency vehicle, it doesn't matter. People just don't pay any attention to anything anymore plus the newer vehicles on the road are much more quiter inside and the radios are louder. It is still the emergecny vehicle opertors responsibility to get the vehicle and crew to the scene and back safely. You must always expect the unexpected from the other drivers that we share the road with.
  20. Congratulations Eric! Is that title now Detective Lt. or is he back in uniform?
  21. The tanker looks great. Just 1 question - are there side dumeps on this rig. I didn't see any unless they are where it says 911.
  22. Our stokes is staged outside the door.
  23. I must say that we are fortunate with our DPW mechanics skills and knowledge. They also do all the Croton PD cars. Seth I didn't know you were in the same class as Paul.
  24. Tommy as usual you make some excellent points and yes that article was read by myself and most of my team and discussed at one of our meetings. ALthough I am called an old fart by some I do keep up with changes in the fire service. Our FAS Team is proactive when we respond, we consider ourselves to be the safety officer (collectively). We do have a policy on fast and a seperate policy for our fast operations. ANd 129 you are quite right there are alot of officers, Chiefs included that do not undertsand what a FAST does, I won't go into details regarding questions I have been asked on calls. If you wouldlike to ask me more PM me or hit me at optonline.net same name as here.
  25. Excellent video, great job!
