I see what appears to be a road/pump shift on the pump panel as well as the dash, great idea but don't you still have to get inn the cab to put the tranny in gear? Also is there a manual override? Nice looking rig, best of luck with it.

Today June 22nd marks the 13th anniversary of the LODD of Lt. Michael E "Satch" Neuner Sr. of the Brewster, NY FD. Not a day goes by that I don't think of you Mike, you were my brother in law, a fellow cop and firefighter but also my best friend. I am sure as you look down upon us you have to be so proud of Jamie, Michael, Nick & Jen who have all become wonderfull young adults and you must have a huge smile with that beautiful grandaughter of yours. We all miss you Mike and we know that you are up there keeping all of us safe! Love & miss you bro.

Barry you are 100% right. Our department is working on by-laws (has to be this way) to improve the training standards for all from a probie up to Chief. The problem is some dinosaurs on our fire council or those that say we are trying to become the FDNY. The chief in a vollie dept can only go so far in some areas unfortunately. I know despite our nay sayers we will get this accomplished even if we lose some "members". Firefighter safety is a battle I will personally never stop fighting for.

Congratulations to my son John and my new daughter Maureen. Great party, love you both!

The building was one of three on the property and it was 600 to 700 feet lay to where the 1st due engine stopped. There were some walkways that were shoveled but other areas had close to 2' of snow. The operations at this incident were exterior from the onset. The floor on the 2nd level had several holes in it, the 1st floor also had several holes and the interior stairway was burnt out. The closest hydrant was near the bottom of the driveway buried in snow and the hydrants in the area are very low pressure, hence the request for the tankers. I hope this answers some of your question yanks 4ever. As for the cause I have no idea but this fire as you can see in the photo was well advanced upon arrival.

As Grumpy stated in his post # 37 Eric is a Mutual aid coordinator (that is our proper title) the designation of Battalion was created years back, prior to that the deputy coordinators were county car #. THe mutual aid coordinators are battalion 10 to 19 and we all are assigned specific areas. The position of mutual aid coordinator is basically that of a resource officer, to get the IC what they need. This post is titled Mohegan fire 2/8/10, however I will not take a shot at them or any other department anywhere career, vollie or combination. It has been said in this thread and several others about consolidation, when the hell is everyone going to wake up and see that numbers are dwindling both career and volunteer (not all departments, but many). Why isn't consolidation discussed seriously? A one word answer - EGO. Some people in authority need to pull the heads out of their a** and look at what they are REALLY providing everywhere. This is something that should be looked at from the inside before (like a lot of the regualtions & standards we have now) are forced upon us by outside or government agencies. This is all basically a turf war kind of thing from my point of view, personally I don't care what the name of the department is on the side of the truck that pulls up IFO my home as long as they know what they are doing when they get off their truck. ANother area where consolidation might help, look at all the different organiztions in Westchester (volunteer side) and we wonder why the volunteer service isn't heard by our elected officals. How about 1 organization with different branches or divisions, maybe we would get taken seriously. All this would be great, but let's face it fantasy island does not exist!

I attended the seminar yesterday for the first time and was very impressed by the entire event. Chief Mittendorf was a knowledgabel and great speaker, the exhibits were wonderful.. All in all a Great job by the Elmsford FD, I have already marked my calendar for next year. Thank you for bringing this program to Westchester,

Hey TCD0415, I was at that seminar with Captain Dugan too and that is the way to do it, too bad the ground ladders on engines have been on backwards since I joined back in 1972.
-
Good luck with the long, long overdue engine guys.
-
Over the top? YES without a doubt. I don't know how they purchase their apparatus funding wise but this is ridiculous. It looksi stupid as hell. Based on info I have gotten over the years a "Q" has a 90 amp draw so 2 of them equals 180 amps, how big is the alternator on this rig. MOney could have been well spent elsewhere like my esteemed colleague firecapt 32 said regarding training.
-
Understandable we all do what we need to do. Gald to hear you got your team up & running we worked with you guys a few years ago thenit seems like the team got dropped.
-
Croton Fd has a fast team with members from all companies. Engine 119 is assigned as the Fast engine with engine 118 as the backup. We use engines since we have more then 1.

Congrats Chief, she is adorable. Thank god she looks like mom. Start saving now for her wedding!!!!

Barry I joined my dept way back in 1972, I wasn't promised anything and I expected nothing and I still feel that way. I was against and still am against our losap program and I believe it is one of the worst things we have done. We have people that come around just for thier points, the first thing they look for is the call sheet so they can sign in and then usually disappear, they do the same thing for training sessions as well. I continue to respond, train, attend meetings, etc because I want to not for the losap as I could car eless abot it. I really haven't seen an increase in members since we started this program, we get a few each year and lose a few each year and unfortunately the ones we lose are usuallly good firefighters. As for the original topic "courtesy lights" My opinio is that no one really understands their purpose including those that use them as well as the general public. How many of you with blue lights have written authorization from your Chief as required by law? As for asking the question of career Firefighters taking the job if there wee no pension, who in this day & age would take a job that offers no pension?
-
Jack that would be a negative.
-
This was a very intelligent and good move by the OFD Chiefs getting thier village board to approve these 2 apparatus and getting the orders in before years end to avoid the large increases coming after January 1st. Great job Pete, Tommy & Jason. They are replacing engine 99 and ladder 42.

As always the Yankees showed they are a class act, in reading the Journal news this morning theyhonored FF Patrick Joyce prior to the game and gave the family 25 tickets for the game. Proud to be a Yankee fan!
-
Most likely Ladder 42 before the current one. If I am not mistaken th eold 41 had a 3rd jack in the front. Any of you OFD guys correct me if I am wrong.
-
Kenny that wouldn't be funny, that would be gross.
