Croton we have a fire council our governing body 2 members from each company called wardens, 1 alternate and the 3 chiefs
-
We are in no way, shape or form a CHIEF! We basically are a resource officer for the IC. Just my humble opinion! Some in my Battalion call me Chief but that is probably due to the fact I am dumb and served my dept. as Chief twice.

During an interview with news 12 a Chief stated "we had to let it burn through the roof so we could find it"
-
I just firmly believe that the members make the Chief not the other way around and someone already said it best we work for the community we serve!

585 You are right, the original truck 1 was equipped as a mobile command post, I had PD,FD and DPW radios installed in the rear. I wonder if they took the generator I had installed off the old truck and put in the new one.

The instructor's conference is invitation only and the guest list is limited to SFI'S, CFI'S and MTO's recognized by OFPC.

The Shell station fire in Ossining in 1997 was the gas tank on a vehicle being worked on in the garage, I believe it was caused by gasoline spilled and a dropped work light. Any OFD peeps feel free to correct me.

Chief Flynn not only are you a knowledgeable man but a funny one as well.

While I do agree with some points made here like 28 miuntes for a FAST team is far to long to wait, fortunately this was for the most part an exterior surround and drown as the fire had made substantial progress prior to arrival of the first due unit and probably was burning for a good period of time prior to discovery and reporting. As for consolidation/regionalization I think that is a fantastic idea, however with NY being a home rule state and too many different entities to make it happen so maybe we should find another topic to beat to death. As stated most of the mutual aid at this job was for tankers, the Millwood engine was requested for the fill site and the Croton engine was requested for the dump site to supply the rigs at the top of the hill doing the attack. The 3 units that were held for manpower were due to the fact that this structure was a collyer's mansion so overhaul was a labor intensive operation. Utility 88 was requested for rehab, utility 12 was requested for the cascade. The county's policy requires a deputy coordinator for any mutual aid fire. My estimation of manpower was more like 60 - 70 firefighters. Mutual aid is not strictly used by only northern westchester it is used countywide by almost all departments except going into the city of yonkers. (Correct me if I am wrong here Chief Flynn). I do have 1 question for you Chief Flynn and I am not trying to start a career/vollie problem here since I have a tremendous amount of respect for you and your department. How many rigs (engines, trucks, rescues and any special units) would you get on your 2nd alarm and how many firefighters would that be. This post is strictly my own observations and opinions and in no way reflect my department or any department that operated at ths job and did a great job!

16 fire5 In Westchester a Deputy Coordinator (Battalion) is dispatched upon the transmission of a 10-75 by the IC. Since NY is a home rule state it is the chief/IC's call on requesting mutual aid. Most departments have their major alarm policies in the CAD at 60 control usually up to at least the 3rd alarm. If I am on a scene as a battalion I only request through 60 control what the IC asks for, sometimes they say which dept they want sometimes they don't, in that case I will simply request (for example 1&1 to ABC dept) and leave the rest in the capable hands at 60 control.

Very well said, Ed.

On behalf of our family I wanted to take the time to thank Rob for the nice tribute to Satch. HIs 2 sons are following in his footsteps, Michael is now a Deputy with the PCSO wearing his dad's badge and Nick has Joined the Marines. Satch is also the main inspiration for the creation of the Croton FD Fast team. Thank you for remembering!

Another great asset for the 10th battalion!

Marty - Good bye and good riddance it's about time! Just kidding you my friend, you will be missed. Congrats on a great job!

Congrats Millwood. Long overdue and very much needed.

Totally disgraceful and unbelieveable. Swank you are right about the cop on board and what about the whole party scenario with the underage female, wtf is up with that. But is this any different from a bunch of guys/gals sitting around the firehouse bar consuming alcoholic beverages then jumping in or on the rigs for a call. It is the 21st century people alocholic beverages have no place in the fire service, those days should have gone with the horses. Just my humble opinion.

I also hope this MOS is going to be okay. This just goes to show that we must ALWAYS expect the unexpected. The word routine has absolutley no place in emergency services. We must always look at the big picture (sizeup).

This explains why we have been getting so much snow! Just kidding Bob, enjoy the retirement.

Rob they also gave my nephew Michael his father's badge. A great gesture by the PCSD.

Like I said I am no longer affiliated with CEMS so I can not answer any operational questions.
-
Although I am no longer affiliated with croton ems I believe it may be a staffing issue since it is Tuesday and the EMT that is usually the one counted on most is doing his weekly 12 hr shift at OVAC. Just my thoughts.

Many years ago at the state Chief's show at the concord (when it was good) there was a 144' ladder which I believe was steel.
-
Not me Cap, safety is always first there is no reason in the world to go on that roof.

Thanks Firegui it looks just like a waterous road/pump shift that's why I asked.
