I agree with both of you, let's make the parades fun again, let us wave at the people, hit the horn or siren for the kids, but lets not step on the "Q" until it winds all the way up, some common sense here. Plus doesn't anyone else seem to think that the bands are getting way too expensive?

Croton on Hudson FD is Sunday 10/5 from 1300 to 1700, it does normally include stove fire demonstrations, recruitment table, a fire store and 4 or 5 events the kids must do for a fire truck ride. Also includes refreshments. It is held at the Harmon Firehouse. And by the way we never would think of setting up a donation table after all this is all about fire prevention. Also this weekend is the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial weekend at the NFA, this year Deputy Chief Joe Piazza Briarcliff Manor FD will be one of the honorees/remembered brothers. Fire Truck Rides before someone asks the Village gets a special rider on the insurance for this and the children must ride in the enclosed cabs.

Another session Tomorrow night (Tuesday Sept. 30th) at 1900 hours the FDVA will be holding their rig familiarization session. These sessions are for all personnel in the Greta 10th Battalion not jus officers.

Nope not me! Risk vs. reward

I agree with you 150%. My dept policy states that on automatic alarms only the 1st due engine responds emergency mode and the balance of the assignment is to respond non emergency. I can't or won't speak for all departments I just know what my departent is supposed to do. After all the police don't respond to burglar alarms emergency mode do they?

Congrats to the peeps at 60 for an outstanding job and to the Mohegan FF for his valiant work. having been on both sides of the radio I know how hard it can be for a dispatcher, your heart is pounding hoping they get to the victim on time, you almost wish you could reach through the phone and pull them to safety.

Chief The secret white castle compartment has been relocated to car 2083. Also anyone may feel free to steal this idea and any other good ones they may come up, after all it is a good way to share ideas and it is a nice form of flattery.

ANd if you checked the parade schedule in your firehouse you would see that Tanker 10 is going as well.

Tom To the best of my recollection departments were told if they were purchasing a new vehicle (additonal) to let the county know before the funding was gone, so I am going to guess that a dept that adds a rig will probably have to purchase their own trunk radio.
-
my thought as well may have been using the trunk radio but on the FG channels

Being somewhat new to the forums I am not sure if I am psoting in the proper area. However, when the state legisaltors in their infinite wisdom changed the NYS V&T law to allow 1 blue light on the REAR of police vehicles why weren't all emergency service vehicles included? I mean after all if is is safer for them whay isn't it safer for all of us? Maybe fire & EMS were asleep at the wheel on this one and maybe we should request the law be changed for all emergency service vehicles.
-
well said Tom, I understand the amber and blue on the rear of RMp's simply because I drove 1 for 20 years and often times the car was my only protection, sometimes a back up unit would also show up. As I said earlier on in a post when the SP added the 1 amber on their lightbars it drasticaly cut down on accidents involving their units on a stop or an mva. I also understand that they police are on the roads more the the other emergency services. I think the chevrons are a great idea, I remember when I was still a cop and I was in charge of the vehicles we started putting scitchlite striping on our cars one of my sergeants asked me what they h*ll are you thinkgin now peopl can see us when we are trying to hide.
-
Well said Chris!
-
firepunk you are 100% correct it is a courtesy light which means if the car in front of you wants to get out of your way they can, it doesn't make your POV an emergency vehicle, it does not give you the right to speed or blow red lights or stop signs but then again driving apparatus you don't really have that right either if you drive with due regard.
-
That was my point anything that improves safety I am all for it, but there should not be a blue light behing you the law allowed it for the rear only. I remember when the SP started adding an amber on the rear it decreased their accidents when troopers were on the shoulder with a V&T stop or an accident, if it makes it safer for police cars whay wouldn't it be safer for all emergency vehicles?
