  1. Seriously, though, One in Five persons in the USA are mentally imbalanced. I suggest you close your eyes and think about your four closest friends. If they all seem to be normal, then IT's YOU.
  2. There were 7 8x10 color glossy photos with circles and arrows on the front and a paragraph on the back explaining what each one was and how it could be used as evidence against me.
  3. Ah, yes. Someone understannds. You got it, Bro.
  4. Barry...I'm sure you'll find this. I seem to remember a publication from OFPC on training called "Administraative Procedures" or words to that effect. It specfies training llike 229hrs for probies and 100 hrs In Service training per year. It also specifies subject and hrs for each subject.
  5. For training, contact time with career is 42 hrs per week, vols is a couple of hours per month. Their training will never be even unless you lower training for the paid force. Not knocking vols, just stating the numbers. Friction comes because of people that create friction. And they will create friction no matter what the circumstances are.
  6. YES! He forgot that they might have to leave to go to a call.
  7. So he sells the corporate helo, declares bankruptcy, forms a new corp under a new name and never loses a nickle out-of-pocket.
  8. HOW 'BOUT THIS: An unnamed city has a hydrant system but it is getting old and needs upgrade to support the hi rises that a couple of hypothetical developers (let's call them Cappelli and Trump) want to build. They feel that the United Water customers (who are exactly the same people as the taxpayers) should foot the bill for upgrades. The developers get what they want, but the FD should really double in size to protect these buildings. Amazingly, the hypothetical developers got a big tax break to build these buildings in the first place. The FD was part of the planning process, but more or less ignored. Are you confused yet?? Maybe the unnamed City Council got confused too.. What's why they voted for it. Believe it or not, it happened in another unnamed city nearby, too. Now both unnamed cities are talking Layoffs! I said "you get what you pay for" but I will take that back. Sometimes you pay dearly and get nothing. Oh...PS...Trump and Cappelli are doing OK...Thanks for asking
  9. Excellent dissertation, Barry. The conlusion? Same as always:"You get what you pay for"
  10. Feiner usually blurts things out before having ANY facts. Unfortunately he keeps getting reelected. He also wants a Townn of Greegburgh Fire Dept. and pay less than surrounding communities. First, comparative contracts is a big part of the Taylor Law. Second, there is no provisioon in NY state law for a town FD. Greenburgh would have to become a city or a village for him to have power over FD's. On the up side, he puts his hand over his heart when the Pledge of Allegiance is recited. This is better than the president (no caps on purpose) who stands there like a foreigner.
  11. Don't worry. You'll be using your "old" 4.5 for a long time. Nationwide FF's are being laid off, and I don't know of any FD that can afford to give away their 4.5's and buy the slim jim model. Personally, if I were crawling down a hot hallway, I would rather have 2 bruthas in old Scotts than only one guy in the new one. Put the new pak on my wish list, but don't lay off my Firefighter. Sorry, that's the times we are in.
  12. You guys are personally providing fire protection to your community 24/7, and you have to pay for Dress(Not parade) Uniforms? Kinda shows us what the public thinks of their firefighters. That also goes for the paid guys..lets lay them off to save a buck. Over the years, how many good stops, rescues, etc did you make and how many thank you's did you get?
  13. The no strike clause and severe penalty for striking (2 day's pay for every day on strike) is there to insure the public will be protected. WE cops and FF have to really believe a strike is necessary before taking that 2-day hit. What's the penalty for city council reducing public protection by laying off cops and ff?
  14. NOBODY has ever walked out of arbitration happy. That's the whole point...the arbitrator usually takes both agruements and meets in the middle. Have you met Feiner? One time he tried to close the Tappan Zee Bridge on Sundays and use it for bicycles and joggers.
  15. If it wasn't in German, I'd have guessed it was the Sprain Parkway. Look at all those cars that passed the fire and didn't stop to ckeck on the driver. I guess they were late for work. Nobody slowed to tell the guy his car was in fire either. George are you sure it wasn't the Sprain Pkwy?
  16. One can be a vol, be as knowledgeable and well trained as his career brother, have adequate staffing in his vol dept, but how many times can he leave his job and respond? Even if you only get three runs a week, how many bosses, no matter how civic minded they are, will let you leave work that often? Something has to give to put food on the table.
  17. California...isn't that where they burn down entire cities on an annual basis and then build that up again with the same type of construction (Wood roofs, houses protruding from hills so the fire can get up underneath)as before the fire? I try not to point fingers, be respectful, don't knock others. But Geez, can't you guys get a law passed to require fire spread redution measures?
  18. I like their uniforms. I wonder, though if they pass SCBA fit testing with their facial hair.
  19. Trusses keep getting a bad rap. The manufacturers, transporters, and building trades go to great lengths to insure their structural integrity. BEWARE THE TRUSS! -Frank Branigan
  20. It must have sucked to hear the judge come out with that BS. Time for another appeal if you are up to it
  21. Food for thought: NYC is terror-conscious and trained to be "on the lookout." Would the same scenario in YOUR community be discovered, reported, and handled as effectively? Or would we be reading instead about LODDs? Train again...If you see something, say something.
  22. I would need an additionsl truck company so I could get stuff off the top shelf
  23. Ok. Time to evaluate this thread. So far, the pranks were harmless and pretty good. The people that posted are people we have seen here over and over. They are senior guys and for the most part have a reputation for giving good advice when serious questions are asked. There were no negative replies and no one said that they were offended by a prank played on them. So what is different in quarters? What causes people to file complaints, call the lawyers, etc.? Any body have input on that? I'm trying to get serious, but stories are still being accepted.
  24. Keep on the subject! Navy pranks are not allowed unless they can be converted to the FD. Hudson144: Know anything abouut Saving the Manatee? A newer 21st Century prank..Black electrical tape neatly placed over the transmitter eye of the TV remote.
  25. In the USN I saw the Bucket of Steam backfire when the Seaman Apprentice came back with a can of emergency drinking water from a liferaft. When told "That's not steam" he replied "It's condensed...you just have to heat it up."
