That's only because they couldn't spell Bjarni Herjólfsson

C'mon, now, I bet you looked that up. You are in violation of EMT-B reply rules. They specifically state that only Bnechis is allowed to look things up. The rest of us are required to wing it. PS I forgot to mention in my last post that since I was born in the USA, I am a Native American. Chances are most of you guys are too.

Re: the Ice Bridge Also across the same bridge (way before EZPass) were the Incas, Aztecs, Mayans etc. Brendan the Navigator of Ireland is running neck-and neck with Eric the Red, a Viking, in the who go here first debate. Columbus got here much later, but he got the better Press coverage. He called the people he met here Indians because he thought he was in India. He was wrong. Then much later, the politically correct numbskulls surfaced and called those people Native Americans. The PC numbskulls were wrong too (See ice bridge) The people here in NY before the Euopeans were the Siwanoy, Mohicans Iriquois etc. So what should we call the holiday on Oct 12th? Don't worry about it....the way things are going, we may not have a country by next October.

Fighting fires is different there. The way you protect the exposure is to hook it up to your redneck style 4x4 and move the exposed trailer. They then use the 30 year- old equipment that was collected in places like Westchester to operate on the fire building.
-
There's a course for that.. You too can be the bestest there is.
-
Now take heed. That was the voice of an experienced IC talking. Did you notice that the troops were losing focus on the thread? Did you notice how efdcapt115 politely told them to refocus? If he has to say it again, it will be an order. Way to go, GG! (and I agree...rotating FAST teams is not a good move)

I've used that saying quite often myself, Chris, but it ain't necessarily so. How many people here in the civilized part of the US do not pay their taxes and still get the full services of the PD, FD, EMS, Schools, rec facilities, hospitals, and on and on. Take a look at your last hospital bill. Know why an aspirin costs $4? Because you are paying for aspiriin for eight other people! Also, neighborhoods with a large percent of non-taxpayers usually demand and get more from emergency services than the taxpayer's neighborhoods.
-
Remember that number is calculated on an 8 minute response time from the initial call. It is achievable in southern Westchester if things like automatic mutual aid consolidation are utilized. Probably difficult to achieve further north. That's 8 minutes from initial call, not from when an IC gets there, thinks about it...thinks about it a little more...asks a couple of guys what they think...and then calls.

AGAIN...Best of luck, Jody. Unfortunately I have come to the conclusion that most judges are clueless, and their decisions have nothing to do with right, wrong, or the law. Their rulings are geared more towards making no waves for themselves. Hopefully you get a judge with a set of ba**s.

Death of a member is kind of a burden, too. Your conscience has to carry heavy load if he could have been saved. The training was offered but not taken.
-
Agreed. And that's why FAST training is needed for all members, not just a team from far away. It's a simple concept. I don't know why it is widely misunderstood.
-
Some people do not understand the concept of FAST no matter how many times it is explained. FAST is not a team like a dive team or tech rescue team. It must be established from the time the first people enter a ILDH atosphere. It starts with 2 in 2 out...the 2 out is your FAST team. A team must be in place throughout the inciident. If you cannot get a FAST team in place for 23 minutes then nobody should be in the building for 23 minutes. Not my opinion...OSHA's

They weren't taking pictures, but maybe this will show you what us "paranoids" are talking about. Even paranoids have Real Enemies. Fire News in Focus by Adam K. Thiel Quick thinking by FDNY shows need for terror threat awareness Regardless of where you live and work, all fire departments must keep a high index of suspicion when approaching even seemingly "routine" incidents When responding to daily emergencies it is sometimes easy to forget the continued threat from terrorists, foreign and domestic, that we face throughout the United States. Related Article: FDNY firefighter helped foil Times Square bomb plot Related content sponsored by: New York City firefighters, along with their counterparts in other large cities, remain on the front lines of the Global War on Terror; as demonstrated by the Times Square bombing attempt earlier this year. But regardless of where you live and work, terrorism remains a threat and all fire departments must ensure their members keep a high index of suspicion when approaching even seemingly "routine" incidents. The actions of Captain Barvels and the crews from FDNY Engine 54/Ladder 4 when approaching this apparent "car fire" are an outstanding example of developing situational awareness and selecting the right strategic/tactical approach for addressing a suspicious situation. Not only did they establish a safe perimeter and request NYPD assistance, instead of simply trying to extinguish the fire, they considered the possibility of a secondary device, a popular tactic for targeting first responders. Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs) remain a major threat, both home and abroad. All firefighters should approach suspicious vehicles with extreme caution and not take anything for granted; even on a "routine" car fire.

It has got to be a pier. A pier is made of wood and it's where the people go. A dock is next to the pier, in the water, where the boat goes.

OK, Oswegowind, if you believe all that you said then don't file. I, on the other hand, filed. If I am denied, so be it. You are correct in saying rates will rise but they will rise with or without the settlement. I want my rates to decrease so I think I'll run for congress and vote myself exempt from the rules. Now that's greedy.

I agree with you, Cap. I filed under Group A and the description looks like an automatic $50

I know this is an imposition on your hobby (a legitimate hobby that is not a threat). However, I believe the saying IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING. It may be a pain when a cop comes along to question you because somebody called it in. But the bad guys are still out to get us. Had Muhammad Atta been questioned about his seemingly innocent flying lessons (and his buddies too), maybe 9/11 wouldn't have happened. My advice is "Suck it up, we're at war. Be nice to the cop and the tattletale, they are just doing what they have to do." While you are out there on a photo shoot, if you see something...say something...and take pictures... they are good evidence.

You're OLD!
-
No matter how this argument on radio frequencies ends up, I have a little advice. Do not give up any of your old frequencies or let them lie dormant. Make some use of them, even if you call it something as dumb as Spacecraft Mitigation Command Net. Test the frequency at least weekly so it shows use. If you don't, there is a good chance that the FCC will wind up selling that frequency. And that's all I have to say about that.

The name Odessy Cabinets rings a bell. Try calling DC Spinelli in Hartsdale 949-0243 Also get the suburban with the lift up tail gate instead of the one pictured if that is what you are buying. You can't write on your ICS board in the rain. The tailgate gives it some cover and you can add overhead lights. The new thing is the pickup truck. See Yonkers Batt 2

I remember Hurley way way way back when he was playing T-ball with my son. Someplace along the line, we all got older, and now we are all Brothers. Happy Birthday, Firediver PS If you happen to be training at the NR Marina, look under Slip G-22. I dropped a few tools there over the years...they're your Birthday Present

Lest we forget 9/11/2001, I made this video. Go to full screen, turn up the sound, and leave yourself 20 min. Once you start, you won't be able to stop. PLEASE PASS IT ON. I had to do the Youtube one in two parts. The Twins…The Brothers On Facebook http://static.ak.fbc...5941383014&ev=0 On Youtube

I am sure that, like me, many of you have taken courses at the airport. It's really pretty quiet. Even New Rochelle in LGA's flight path has more noise. I'm in VA now. If you want jet noise, come on down and hear those USN F-18's practice touch-n-go's.
-
Same ones that say "I flew right into Westchester...five minutes from home, no traffic, easy check-in, etc."

Paid, vol, or lots of other jobs the guy with: Under a year knows he knows nothing. Four years knows everything. Five years knows there is alot he doesn't know. Retired after 34 years....uh...what was I talking about? PS: There's ten years experience, and then there's 1 years experience ten times.
