  1. Try L W Bills Co. Georgetown, MA WWW.lwbills.com I never dealt with them, but heard that they are the place to find Gamewell parts Let me know how you make out
  2. Try EBAY,Signacon, and there is a olace in Newton Mass, I can't remember the name, but I will look and try to find it.
  3. If you are giong to switch to 60 Control, you can't expect POOF!, 60 has hydrant maps...POOF, 60 can open our firehouse doors. It's not a macic act. You have to do some work on your part to get these capabilities. If you want 60 to give out hydrant info, for example, you have to at least give 60 your GIS hydrant overlay in a compatable format. If you don't have an overlay,, worst case scenario is that you have to get some GIS equipment and go hydrant to hydrant to create an overlay. Want CIDS? Start gathering building info. Two proverbs apply here: 1. GIGO Garbage in...garbage out 2. There ain't no free lunch
  4. The NJ Gov might as well put the NJ National Guard on standby now. Camden will possibly self destruct once it is known that CPD is only 1/2 a PD.
  5. Thanks. I was trying to remember tht title but was drawing a blank. You are right...required reading.
  6. A couple of quick points: I don't personally know of any Board of Commissioners who recklessly squanders the district funds. They each believe that they are responsible to the taxpayer to get the best FD at the best price. The meetings are public but are sparsely attended for the most part. In many districts, the union has only a little influence in elections. The uniion members can't vote because they don't live in the district. Take me, for example. I was hired from out of town and never lived in town in my 34 years of service, but I feel I gave the taxpayers my best.
  7. No, I wasn't looking for it, but since you brought it up, I like it. It will go into my back pocket for future use. Asshat and asshattery are not actually words (I looked it up) they are listed as "urban slang." My experience, however, is that slang words eventually become official word. I'll start using it now so I'm ready when the lexicographers accept it. Asshattery seems almost like "Foppery" but the subject is nott only pompous, but stupid.
  8. Do whatever you like as a private citizen. Do what's correct as a Firefighter. Notice I didn't say "Politically Correct." I said "CORRECT." I will agree with you about too many laws. It's because when a politician gets elected, he feels compelled to pass a new law, even though there is already a law on the books that covers the situation. For example, Isn't driving while texting a form of reckless driving?
  9. OK, Chief, ya got me on the old days. Then it was Shenanigans, some were fun, some a bit dangerous, some bordered on the outrageous, and some, if done today would generate lawsuits. A sentence like the one I just wrote is normally followed by a "BUT" sentence and I'm not going to do that. The difference, and a big difference it is, is that none of the Tom Foolery was carried out in the public eye. The water-in-the-boots and cupcake-in-the-helmet tricks are still carried out by today's FF's but what happens in quarters stays in quarters. We are not discussing the differences in the generations here. The person in question here is THE CHIEF!!! THE F%##$ CHIEF!!! I also have as much respect for my younger Brothers as I did for the ones I worked with years ago. The job of a fire officer is to pass all your knowledge on to the young FF's and hopefully they will add it to their knowledge bank. After you leave, there should be left a corps of FF's that are smarter and safer than we ever were. If that isn't the result of your career, then you have failed.
  10. The Mayor is not necessarily the Chief's boss. If Freeport is a city or a village, then it is possible that the Mayor is the boss. If it is a Town, it would have a Town Superviser, not a Mayor and towns don't have Fire Depts, they have Fire Districts, not accountable to the Town Gov't. They are governed by a Board Of Commissioners who is the Chief's boss. Even in a village or city, the Mayor's function could only be to preside over City Council. Or the FD could be governed by a board of wardens or similar body. But you are right, Cap the Chief has a boss. I always knew who my boss was at any given time and I am sure this goes for you too. You are also right in questioning the berzerkity (I made a new word) or what of the Fire service. It's probably "or what" because if it were berzerk, people would know it. Remember the days, Cap, when we were America's Heros? It wasn't that long ago, was it? What the he** happened?
  11. I bet there in a "Conduct Unbecoming" clause in their Rules and Regs..everybody has one. Easy to bring charges against him and it should be an easy dept. hearing and removal of the Chief. Then why do I have the feeling will turn into a long term fiasco? Does anybody else see that coming?
  12. Sorry for jumping in so late in the discussion. but irish fire is right. I was on the job for 34 years and went to schools, seminars, etc. right up to the time I retired. Some of us go to these classes just to get certificates and unfortunately forget the course material in a week or two. On the other hand, you could have irishfire's attitude: Learn it from those who have been there> remember it> and put it in your back pocket because you might need it some time in the future when you least expect it. It should also come out of that back pocket every now and then for a review. Irishfire, Tommy Brennan would be proud of you. And Barry: Mofire is young. Don't jump on him when he asks a question. All your information is absolutely correct, but as soon as you jumped on his case, you turned him off. Cids (or whatever you may call buildings' info database) is a very time consuming effort and takes a lot of work by all members of a FD to initiate and then to keep current. Not a knock, but it is something that volunteer FDs just don't have the time or people to devote. Everyone, paid or vol should find time to do company inspections, at least of your area's target hazards if nothing else. Wouldn't it be nice if your first time in a building is during a company inspection as opposed to 3an on your hands and knees? And about that back pocket irishfire talked about...It's like a magic pocket. No matter how much "stuff" you put in it, it never gets full. There...you got my two cents. Take it to heart and it may be worth a lot more to you
  13. Amicone is correct. Yonkers is the second safest in the country....provided you are the Mayor and have YPD protection.
  14. Where are those cameras aiming and where are his hands?
  15. I just read the article. I would say that a lot more happened than is stated by the article.
  16. I'm certain that the next time there will be video. At the time of th is post, Det Chris Lieberman is probably in his basement developing a helmet cam. Since he has to use both hands and feet to fly, my guess the Rec/Off will be teeth activated, and Pan,zoom, and focus will be done with the tongue.
  17. Good job, Chris. To add to Jack's comment, every tug on the victim changes the weight distribution of the whirlybird (Betcha haven't heard that word in a while). Also, the victim's weight on each tug might be three times his actual weight because of the mud's suction. I would equivocate the pilot's sense of reaction to log rolling in rough seas. Whirlybird...has a kind of a nice ring to it, eh Chris? You should use it in your reports...it's a lot better than the word aircraft
  18. All valid points made, but so is mine. I was just trying to say be careful what you wish for, you just may get it. The carpetbaggers are still out there. Of course if a FD is flawed, hiring from the outside may be the answer. Another possibility is the national search for an outsider is just a scare tactic on the part of the city administration who never had any intention to go to the outside. Each cities case for hiring must be taken on an individual basis, but if you watch the ads in the trade mags, you will also see the same city appear every two years or so. If you read between the lines, you can sometimes tell what is wrong with a FD and the guy they hire would be jumping into a hornets nest.
  19. Quite often, that Chief from the outside comes to town for about 2-5yrs, wrecks a fd and its morale, and moves on to another city. You see their names over and over in the trade magazines and they are always Chief, but from a different city.
  20. WHEN YOU FINISH READING THE CONSOLIDATION REPORT Get all the related info. Read the minority report and the Fairview FD rebuttal. Then go on to the Town's website GreenburghNY.com. On the home page, the following links appear directly below the Consolidation report: GREENBURGH NAMED 80TH BEST PLACE TO LIVE BY MONEY MAGAZINE GREENBURGH NAMED 80TH BEST PLACE TO LIVE BY MONEY MAGAZINE - Click for story. CNNMONEY.COM RATES GREENBURGH AS #12 IN LIST OF 6 FIGURE TOWNS Now you can form your opinion
  21. Barry: it appears that a new Holiday was negotiated and, as opposed to choosing an official holiday like Flag Day ,for example, they chose to use the member's birthday as a holiday. This accomplishes two things: 1. The member gets paid for his birthday 2. Depending on how holidays work in Fairview, it has the potential of driving the Scheduling Officer to the looney bin. Not sure about now but G'burgh depts were rated 4. I think that's the highest for combination FD's. Remember my info is old, but you get answers quicker and to the point.
  22. There are similarities too. Did you notice that we are not the only country that has run into the bay doors? Stay safe, Russian Brothers.
  23. HEY HEY HEY there, Cap! I'm over 60. Does EMT-B have a complaint protocol for age discrimination?
  24. The easiest way to identify an articulating boom is by the Phone and CATV wires hanging off the elbow. OK, FDMV guys, somebody must have pictures of that.
