The VAFD Montrose is trying to get 1 in the class.

With the engine running the BLS response, they are still available for a fire run, rather then back tracking and dropping off utility and picking up the engine. Could save valuable mins.

I don't think thats reality. Peekskill firefighter's are hired to be firefighter's and I give them credit for providing great ALS services as well. BLS engine is a good concept, but maybe the answer would be for Peekskill VAC to get more vollie's or hire moire paid staff. I give them credit for a busy agency there doing a fine job but as with every EMS agency member #'s are down and calls are up.

Date: 8/31/08 Time: 0315hrs Location: Spring St and Williams St Frequency: 46.26, OVAC 453.075 Units Operating: OVAC- 74A1 and 36M1, Briarcliff FD 53B1, Croton EMS 55B1 and 55B2, Cortlandt VAC 8811, 88B1 (standby CEMS HQ for Croton/Ossining, Mt.Pleasant 37M1, Peekskill 39M2 Description Of Incident:MVA with multiple injuries Writer: OVAC and OPD operating at Spring St. and Williams St. for MVA with mulitple victims struck by vehicle request M/A from Briarcliff FD and Croton EMS. Possible hit and run, several people down in roadway. OPD with multiple units on scene request assistance from surrounding agencies. CPD Car #34 onscene and Car #30 stationed at Croton/Ossining border on standby for possible back up, Town of Ossining PD onscene as well. During operations several disputes/altercations broke out making the scene even more difficult. On scene EMS taking care of patients, OVAC command handed over to CEMS 5512, request additional medic for several severe pts. 74A1 and Briarcliff 53B1 txp. patients to WMC. 5512 reports 2 patients being packaged, request another additional medic. 37M1 and 39M2 responding, 55B2 advises enroute to WMC request intercept with 37M1, intercept made at Revolutionary RD and Rte9. pt txp ALS to WMC. 55B1 txp to WMC BLS, Peekskill Medic too far away, diverted to Phelps Hospital with 1 patient. 5512 request CCVAC to standby in Croton HQ for Croton/Ossining for the duration of incident. 5512 advises at this time all patients accounted for and being txp. to medical facilities, all EMS clear of scene. After all patients txp. 74A1 now at OPD HQ with 1- patient associated with melee, and request CEMS 55B1 to respond as well. On scene 74A1 txp 1 patient to PMH, 55B1 txp one patient to Phelps as well. All units back in service in their districts by 630hrs. Investigations still underway, and patient conditions unknown at this time. **Quite a morning in the Village of Ossining, thanks to all who assisted!!

Chevrons....Beautiful safety addition. I am PRO chevrons for what I just said SAFETY!! I wish it was easier to get other members support, look at the visibility of that vehicle. All police, fire, ems and DPW should do the chevrons to protect all.

I wasn't saying I don't like the rig, because I am all for a rig that can get the job done. I just noticed the lights kind of looks weird, and the roll up s are always bare. I'm glad they went with a low hose bed and I hope other Dept'as do that in the future and cut the length, rigs are getting too big these days. Oh and by the way as a vertically challenged firefighter I dig the low hose bed!!!

How about how they do at a FIRE!!!! All this talk about parades etc. I know a Dept. that doesn't do the greatest at parades but a kick a** job at FIRES!!

Yes John we used to have a 119 helmet front but went to a new member, I will donate one to put up. To answer the question of what the FDVA RIT provides, it works as follows: MA 28 will respond with 2 fully trained firefighters to serve as your two members there solely for firefighter rescue if needed during the operations. The VAFD will be there for the beginning of the incident, and the appropriate FAST is also dispatched. When the FDVA RIt gets there, they will set up where the IC wants and will begin with a walk around, get accountability and find out where firefighters are operating etc. and will also begin to ladder building etc. whatever FAST duties need to be done. Once the FAST gets there, which is from 5-15 minutes or so, the RIT then either supplement the FAST or assist in other operations, or be released. The RIT is a great thing for the firefighters operating on scene, as the RIT is usually there during the beginning stages, where the most chance of someone getting hurt, lost etc. Tools we carry: axe, haligans, rabbit tool, pike poles, assorted tag lines, search lines, spare SCBA for down firefighter, hand lights, stokes, saws if needed, extrication tool, various rope and associated hardware, tripod, MA 28 is basically a rescue with lots of tools. Every firefighter at the FDVA is trained as: Firefighter/EMT/Rescue Tech Basic/Haz Mat Tech/Confined Space Tech/FAST and are well trained in the fire service. Lots of talent and experience here, and willing to come out to assist you! When the RIT is called, we still have a Class A pumper, and a minimum of 2 firefighters still on station, and once we are called a CALL BACK is conducted. Depending on the ETA of the incoming Call Back personel, a standby company is requested until the station is staffed accordingly. In reference to the incoming standby company knowing the campus etc. there will still be 2 firefighters to ride with the M/A companies. We all have to remember, the FDVA is there to protect our Veterans, so we have to make sure we have sufficient resources covering the campus. This also goes for if you happen to call for our engine, or Haz Mat o Marine unit. If you call us though, you are guaranteed to get at a min. of 2 fully trained firefighters for RIT, and Marine, and 3-4 firefighters on a engine or Haz mat depending on manning for that shift. We are here to assist in anyway, and will have a smile when called upon!! I hope I was able to clear up any questions you may have.

E174 on scene requesting line, fire in a wall. Also requests 1-Hartsdale engine to the scene and 1-Greenville engine stand by in Fairview HQ. deputy requesting manpower with packs and TIC, E174 to grab a hydrant and lay in. Deputy request 1-line to 2nd floor, Hartsdale engine company handling. 0935hrs-Command request Board of Health be notified, fire in kithcen of Day Camp 0940hrs-Fairview HQ advises Command 30 min. ETA for Board of Health 0942hrs-Deputy to E174, shut down the charged line 0945hrs-Command to Fairview, release Elmsford truck Company from stand by assignment 0948hrs-Command to Fairview, notify Building Dept and Fire Marshall 0955hrs-Command transferring Command to Deputy Mathews for a few minutes

Date: 7/6/08 Time: 0259hrs Location: 2090 Albany Post Rd. NYS Veterans Nursing Home Frequency: 46.26 and fireground #6 Units Operating: VAFD E225, Montrose 2271, E121, E122, TL8 and Buchanan and Verplanck FD's standby in quarters Description Of Incident: Montrose VAFD, Montrose dispatched for Automatic fire alarm and a call from NH staff for report of fire in Eagle Point unit. Buchanan and Verplanck FD standby in their quarters. Writer: 0259hrs- Units dispatched for automatic fire alarm with a call from staff stating unknown type of fire in the Eagle Point unit. Montrose VAFD- received the run E225 enroute. 0301-VAFD E225 on scene out investigating. 0303- E225 crew reporting heavy smoke in the Eagle Point unit, staff reporting fire in Rm #141. Crew made entry to patient room, found fire adjacent to the bed. Ended up being a fire contained to a Surge Protector, computer tower and night stand. Fire knock down using a water can, and unplugged all electrical components. Further investigation showed a water leak in the overhead AC unit, which shorted out the surge protector. E225 crew requests ventilation. VAFD also notified security to call maintenance staff to respond. Montrose FD handling ventilation, E225 officer and MFD 2271 put situation under control. Buchanan and Verplanck FD's stand down, no need for further resources at this time. 0400hrs- All units in service and returning handed over to NYS Vets NH Maintenace staff. ***Side Note-NYS Veterans Home is a single story wide spread structure with approx. 250+ patients.

Date: 6/20/08 Time: 0810hrs Location: 119 Old Post Rd North Frequency: 46.26, Fireground #5 Units Operating: 2082, 2083, E118, E119, TL44, R18, CEMS 55B2 Description Of Incident: Gas Leak Writer: FDVA356 Units operating at outside gas leak with elevated levels. E119 staged on a hydrant, as companies used multi gas meters to check adjacent residences. As elevated levels were found command requested 2nd engine to the scene as well as CEMS to stand by while FD operated. Approx. 10 residences checked with gas meter with negative results, Con ED onscene with elevated levels from a manhole in the street, not in the explosive limits. Con ED advised CFD/CPD/CEMS to take up, no hazard at this time, and supervisor will be notified. Work crew to handle situation in the future. Leak is contained to the manhole in question.

This year it was just Croton FD, Croton EMS and all of the Communities schools and organizations. CFD does a firemens parade bi annual and separate from the Villages Summer festival.

Croton FD soon to be Croton EMS has just taken delivery of 2 Masimo Rad 57 detectors. This will be an essential tool once in service for fire scenes, CO calls, rehab of firefighters, every day emergencies. Both of our ambulances also will carry at a min. of 2-3 cases of water and I'm also looking into purchasing cooling vests with chairs for rehab operations. You will soon find Pedialyte and Gatorade as well on both rigs to rehydrate and restore electrolytes. Another item hat will be ordered shortly is a small gazebo/tent that is a pop-up to keep patients, rescuers and personnel out of the sun etc.

He needs to be a Medic first. Oh and step up at his present position....lol

Dobbs Ferry PD report heavy smoke condition, 2093 request 1 ladder to the scene. 1219hrs- Hastings Ladder and Irvington FAST to the scene 1222hrs- Bat. 14 dispatched to landline control for a response 1226hrs- Bat. 12 dispatched to landline control for a response 1242hrs- 2093 request C&O to the scene/60 control toned out C&O Zone #3 1244hrs- 2093 to 60 control fire knocked down, secondary searches are negative, probable will hold 1248hrs- Bat 12 on scene Dobbs Ferry

Will this tourney be opened just for FD's or will it be an open tourney?

Love the visibility these chevron stripes create. I fought for it on the back of our new engine and something like it on our tanker, but no one likes the way it looks. Hey if it makes it safer, do it! Look in the future when we replace our ambulance, chevrons will be on the back of the rig, if I get my way, same with reflective striping etc. to increase visibility. We have to remember the rigs we purchase aren't being purchased to be "parade rigs" so let's use our heads and go for safety not looks.

OFD 2332 on scene request Croton FAST. approx 2130hrs- 2332 has fire under control holding all units approx 2140hrs- releasing Croton FAST and other OFD units with exception of E96, E98, Truck 42 and Rescue 14. 2155hrs-2332 releasing all OFD units.

DOD certifications are through different Federal Installations. Back a few years ago I took the DOD Haz Mat Awareness and Operations at Stewart Air Base as well. Seems like DOD certifications are definitely worth the training, since from my experiences it's more hands on. Local installations that offer DOD courses to Federal Firefighters: West Point Fort Monmouth, NJ Bucks County, Penn MFRI-Maryland Fire Rescue Institute Stewart Air Base?? As a federal firefighter we are also able to challenge out on exams if we already have NYS level.
