OK there is now 2 lawsuits against FDMV- do you think we can have a 3rd for a "HAT TRICK", my thoughts are a big YES!!!
-
Lucifer- sounds great but the Vulcans would have a lawsuit for biased standards to be a Firefighter. Hey speaking of a biased crime- Imagine if 12 white members of another society protested in writing and in person to the mayor of a certain city the promotion of 2 Black Firefighters, the 12 guys would have been arrested for a biased crime and labeled as Racists! The Vulcans need to be put in their place where they have no say with no outdated Racist decree!

Some words from karen Torre, New Haven20 Attorney: Spilled Chili And Other Liberal Nonsense By KAREN LEE TORRE As if the New York City Fire Department has nothing better to do, U.S. District Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis has ensured that it will be embroiled in court proceedings for years, at enormous public expense, and for unsound reasons. By judicial fiat, Garaufis invalidated FDNY hiring exams as discriminatory against African Americans. Acting as if racial imbalance in the FDNY was a social anomaly and the handiwork of racists in city government, Garaufis managed to transform nationally common statistical disparities in qualification rates into a ridiculous finding that city officials intentionally discriminated against blacks. In an intellectually indefensible leapfrog, Garaufis cites the racial gap seen over years of fire department testing and concludes that this amounts to intentional discrimination because city officials were aware of this racial gap for years. This non sequitur is a convenient shield against a constitutional attack on one of the most obnoxious “remedies” in judicial history. Crude, standardless racial quota hiring will now be imposed. Notably, and for reasons that ring hollow, Garaufis exempted New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg from the politically injurious “intentional discriminator” label. Bloomberg just happens to be the one who will decide how far the city will challenge Garaufis’ rulings. The seemingly irrational drawing of a line at the mayor’s door, while besmirching the reputations of the less powerful on the city’s political ladder, gives rise to the appearance of a judicial move calculated to increase the chances that New York City will acquiesce in this judicial intrusion into its affairs. Bloomberg should not capitulate. He should fight it tooth and nail or Garaufis will be his new fire chief and take over the FDNY for life. Other like judges have done that and wrecked the agencies of which they took control. Even before Garaufis, the FDNY, responding to pressure from race mongers, dumbed down its tests to the point they became a joke. Here is one of many outrageous examples: One test actually asked candidates what they should do if they discovered that a co-worker spilled chili on the floor and didn’t wipe it up. Adding to this nonsense, more than one of the moronic multiple choice answers was correct. Firefighters erupted in protest and disgust over this assault on their professional standards, right in the city where hundreds of firefighters lost their lives. Even the spilled-chili type of questions won’t satisfy liberal activist judges, who know nothing about the jobs of these heroes, show little respect for them or concerns for their safety, and issue these offensive edicts from the safety and comfort of their chambers. That these lunatic rulings come almost entirely from President Bill Clinton appointees (and will no doubt proliferate under President Barack Obama-appointed “judges”) should be laid out for voters in November. While we’re at it, let’s not stop with spilled chili for firefighters. Let Garaufis extend his logic to fix the racial gap in bar exam pass rates and stop pretending that education and knowledge are important to our jobs. Ditch those unfair questions about property and contracts. Let’s learn from the learned Garaufis. Here’s a suggested question on a judicially reformed multistate exam: A witness you are cross-examining at trial starts to pick his nose. What should you do? A. Yell, “Dude, you’re grossing me out” in front of the jury. B. Offer the witness some Kleenex. C. Move to strike the snot. D. Start picking your own nose so the witness does not feel isolated. Answer key: Both B and C are correct and you get two extra points if you are oppressed. Maybe Garaufis will compromise and allow New York City to change the spilled chili hypothetical to at least add that the chili is on fire. Disgusted firefighters from around the nation are, at last, organizing nationally to fight against this elitist judicial assault on their profession – an overdue and welcome development. Recently, countless thousands of firefighters gathered in New York to bury one of their own killed in the line of duty. The hero left behind a wife and beautiful little daughters. His twin brother, also a firefighter, must now bear an unspeakable pain for the rest of his own life. Mayor Bloomberg – do the right thing. Don’t let robed elitists make a joke of your fire department.• Karen Lee Torre, a New Haven trial lawyer, litigates civil rights issues in the federal courts. If I was on a list above others,white/black/spanish and whatever other races and the City was going to be forced to hire below my number I would certainly start a class action lawsuit to stop the bs. We are all created equal and are given the chance to practice both the written and agility for these jobs. It comes down to how hard you want to apply yourself. Many careers have all working in them,They just don't handout degrees to be Doctors, lawyers, pilots etc. Why is it that the Fire Department is treated differently? Case closed- Fight the Fight!
-
The problem is the overall numbers, however this should not make the rules to be changed. Lowering standards etc. Right now the city of chicago wants to do away with the written exam to get more minorities on the job. Imagine how a minority firefighter must feel after he busted his butt both for the written and agility tests to get on the job. Not all are in favor of affirmative action especially the man/woman who got into the position by hard work and merit! Many firefighters feel that on the fireground is where you gain respect of your peers, not by what your race is. I know a few that shouldn't be OTJ when it comes to the dedication and work ethic. Yes- some of you are probably reading this right now. MERIT Matters for all.....
-
Paratrooper- its time for guys like you to get together with the other thousands of guys on the list to go against this legally- You can't win anything unless the group of you get together and fight! I know 1st hand the results of the racially motivated cowardness of the vulcans- a fraternal order of black firefighters who should not be acknowledged from the 1st place. Imagine if the Emerald Society pulled this crap! It would be discrimination, I can say this because I have experienced it 1st hand. TIME TO FIGHt AND STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS!, You do have them. This would be the best time for a class action lawsuit! I know a lawyer who might be interested!!!

Probably a set up! BARF!!!!!! TO those who paraded him around FDMV A few years ago, read it n weap, webcams don't lie! Especially with oodle in hand. Interesting- AlS- I am sure that many of you from the USMC have a few words to say.
-
We can all figure out who this applies to,other depts I am sure.
-
After reading his bio and comments about his career it looks like FDNY promotes to the top the way it should be, Performance, dedication, work ethic etc. Wish it was that way in other places.
-
The City Of Chicago is considering doing away with the testing process to get on the job, the reason? Take a guess! Lets just hand out badges n guns and have fun. No need for a any testing here for the job. Whats next? Who's next? Go to the Chicago Sun Times for the complete article.

How about the former Mayor of Mount Vernon denying the Fire Department to respond because he "DIDN"T WANT ANY OF HIS FD MEMBERS COMING BACK INJURED AND FILING FOR A DISABILITY" ! We went down as a union not a department!
-
I can say it "REVERSE DISCRIMINATION" However.there is no such a thing! Its just plain ole DISCRIMINATION....
-
Great news for NRFD-I am sure that the cuts projected were not voluntarily given to the city by the Fire Chief unlike a neighboring dept that proposed demoting 9 officer positions to butter his own bread! Real fire service leaders don't cut! Especially when it took hard work from previous Chiefs and union leaders to bring the staffing up for the past 25+ years and you are one of the busiest departments in the region! Happy New year to all!

Christmas Eve I got a call from a friend saying that she was in a local deli and 5 shady characters were in the store questioning the person behind the counter, now I am not into profiling however when you live 1 mile from a nuclear power plant and the threat exists you have follow your gutt feeling. I went to the deli and ended up following and notifying the local police agency of 5 individuals going north with the tailights out, they were traveling in the direction to Indian Point but did not turn to go there, they were pulled over and all checked out ok. Don't sit back and wait-react to something that might not be right! You never know!

Again another firefighter was injured because he fell through the floor, a previous post about the 1st line is was closed but i wanted to mention this again because of the recent incident in Toledo OH. The firefighter possibly not aware of a basement fire fell through a hole burnt through the flooring. Again the importance of the TIC is unmeasurable, a valuable tool to possibly recognize a hole in the flooring. Again if we can all add to this we might help someone avoid a serious injury or death from falling through the floor.

I have been following the posts and comments on the Montrose Fire, I see that maybe we can all now put whatever thoughts and feelings we have aside and take this situation to the next level. Being familiar with the situation too include who lived in the house etc I feel that if we look at the construction of many of the homes throughout the region this can and will happen again. I have been against the wooden enclosed stove pipes, chimneys or whatever you want to call them for years. I have seen these enclosures burn where sometimes the results were better than the latest that we all have been talking about. I am gonna start by mentioning a few points and I hope that many more points will be brought out to make this a learning experience for all. When you have a pipe enclosed with wood IMO it is not good from the get go. Imagine enclosing a catylitic converter on your car with wood? The results- a car fire! The importance for correct clearance for the pipes is a priority and I am sure and I am anything but a codes guy they have all been established to keep mishaps from happening. I have seen these pipes glowing bright red during daytime incidents and know that if they were against wood or vinyl siding the results would not be good. Cleaning of the chimney pipe or cleanout is important as well. Firespread both vertically and horizontally makes a difference here also. Fire not being discovered right away will also have a large impact on the situation. This situation can happen anywhere, anytime to all of us no matter what dept you are from. I tried to look for pictures of the enclosed wooden chimneys to post with no success and I am sure that some of you out there that are more computor friendly than me can post for this topic. PLease- add to this post so we can all learn from, each fire is different than the other so add to the discussion regardless how minor an incident might have been or an experience you might have been involved with. Thanks JJc

HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA? Did someone raise the standards recently and didn't tell me??? lol

The 4 citys in Westchester have all been under the gun at one point or another, from the past I have noticed the departments being told by the city councils that cuts may have to happen. In one situation that I am very familiar with the cuts that were requested came from within the Fire Department. I have a problem when a Fire Service Leader volunteers to demote and downsize the Department , especially when the Department is one of the busiest Departments within the NY Metro area and is so understaffed to begin with. Maybe that Fire Service leader took a class to help him volunteer cuts and demotions to his own Department?

It appears that the order for promotions will be out soon for the promotions of the much deserved members of the New Haven FD. Its almost 4 1/2 months after the landmark case was ruled in favor of the Firefighters in the US SUPREME COURT. Hopefully the members will all get their promotions and whatever else they are entitled to! CONGRATS! jjc

A picture with a 1 word says it all!

An emotional and classy ceremony to honor the members of the New Haven 20 and others, many from the NY,NJ,Ct area there to see history take place. It was a great day for all and a great celebration afterwards. God Bless the NH20 and good luck in your well deserved promotions!

Even in career departments political favors or paybacks exist when credentials or past work experience does not come into the equation!
