  1. its quite apparent that foam is needed more than once throughout westchester co. its nice to know that some of the units mentioned above in this thread are available to the mutual aid program.I know that there is foam available both at the fire training center and indian point as well, the foam trailer which is maintained by fairview is pretty much in the middle of the county and is available if you call for it. chiefs throughout the county should be familiar with what is available when it comes to the specialtys of firefighting. The county airport is available from what I have heard but yes there may be a problem with airports ops on when and when not a CFR (crash fire rescue) rig may be sent, there is a standard equation for airports that they are required to go by when it comes to firefighting,i forget what it is but this could be better discussed in a future mutual aid plan. the airport does have 3 rigs there,a 4th one which is a civilain version of the air force P-4 which carries 1500 gals of water and 180 gals foam will be moving to FDMV shortly and operating as FDMV foam #1.hopefully the training and sop's will be worked on soon and the rig will be in service possibly at FDMV sta # 2 on fulton ave. when it comes the flammable liquid fires foam is a must and incident commanders from all the westchester depts should have a plan to get the foam to the incident asap. the dispatchers at 60 control are aware of what is available as well as the assigned battalion coordinators, pre-plans go a long way when doo doo hits the fan especially when the incident is something other than the well known structure fire here in westchester co. I will find out more tonight about the airport requirements tonight being that i will be with a gang of CFR firefighters tonight,be safe!
  2. UNITED STATES AIR FORCE FD 1978-1982 BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE NEW YORK AIR NATIONAL GUARD FIRE DEPT @ STEWART AFB NEWBURGH NY- PRESENTLY SERVING!
  3. POLITICS,POLITICS,POLITICS! The mayor doesn't give one hoot for the FD.It is well known,we are like many other fire depts throughout the great usa. FDMV does have 2 engines and a truck on order and yes the foam unit is close to being a reality again. Alot of internal problems exist at FDMV> Will it ever change? who the hell knows. It is one of the best jobs in westchester even with all the bs.Shiny rigs don't put out the fires, handlines, airpacks, axes, haligans, and firefighters put them out.Yes we are short on manpower and I can't see that changing for a long time. We always are fighting with the administration for manning. The mutail aid problem isn't our problem, its the upper echelons problem, why isn't yonkers fd invited to the jobs? because they have the balls to say no we aren't supplementing mount vernons manpower problem! as a firefighter in mount vernon i wish that yfd was still on the invite list because you know that when yfd shows up they come in with fully staffed rigs with officers and respond asap, not when others call in for ot to cover the rigs.the mount vernon fd still operatesd as a one or two room dept with a staff of agressive men who have alot of pride in what they are trained to do. for those that do condemn us and they are out there we do the best with what we got! for the other depts that came in to bail us out-thank you! we do appreciate what you guys do for us!to rwc130-having the vols there would only bring up the divorce rate in nys,(LOL) i think we are doing between 5000-6000 calls a year, explain that one to your sweethearts when you are never home! just goofin on ya Rob, anyway- fdmv is still a good job but has alot of hurdles to go over just like alot of other depts, be safe!
  4. room n contents in a 15x20 room in the basement with minor vertical extension to the 1st floor, room was loaded with debris which made it tough for entry,1 fdmv member minor back injury, nice stop with minimal damage to upper floors.
  5. With regrets I pass on the information of the passing of Ossining Town Police officer Donato (Danny) Traditi(44 yrs old) His untimely death has shocked the pd/fd in ossinig as well manyfriends and family members. Dan was an ex-capt/driver and present president of monitor hose co in ossining.Dan leaves behind his wife Deborah and 3 young sons. Wake is wed 2-4,7-9 @ Dorsey Funeral home in Ossining. Funeral will be at St Augustines Church in Ossining Thurs @ 10 am. Im sure this will be a class A uniform funeral for both the FD/PD. According to a few of his fellow officers Dan was involved with the DARE program for years and will be missed by many. Im sure in time his fellow officers will organize a 10-13 event to help out the family. May Danny rest in peace!

He leaves behind a wife and 5 children and a child from a previous marriage. Go to the incident alert- Yonkers manhole for additional info. The 2nd Con Ed member is still not out of the woods, our thoughts are with both familys. http://emtbravo.just5buckshosting.com/phpB...opic.php?t=1244
  7. Alot of valid points here,i"ll throw one more in,mohegan fd hasn't used the siren for years and when ever there is a call you see a flock of yellow jackets (people in turnouts) at the incident,it almost appears that each fd may have its own issue when it comes to this,a reminder, mohegans district is around 40 sq miles!with communications getting better all the time to include the nextels any dept who does not supply a reliable pager to its members should be ashamed of themselves especially when the "white hats" are driving around in vehicles worth more that $40,000!BE SAFE!
  8. maybe they might learn how to drive the ambulances while they are out of service! on a daily basis they go flying down rte 6,the bear mtn pkwy, rte 9a to the va with lights n sirens blaring, one night i got cut off by one of the units and i had my kids in the car,i followed them to the VA and questioned if this response was an emergency and the medic said yes,if it was an emergency ccvac would have been there! anyway, they fly all around the county on non emerency calls, get out of the way when empire is on the road!
  9. did you hear all of the non essential people on the radio? prime example of too many chiefs and no indians on the fire frequency, who needs to hear that 3 chiefs 3 deputy chiefs are responding when the 2 departments can't talk to each other to communicate important info on if the vehicle has sunk or afloat. the boat was in tow by another vessel and the knuckle heads are talking like they are rte 84 east bound on a cb radio! keep off the air unless it is important
  10. Kevin A. Cuming a resident of North White Plains was killed on 8/21/04 in Baghdad Iraq. His patrol came under rockett-propelled grenade attack,Cuming was assigned to the 1st. squadron,7th cavalryregiment , 1st cavalry division,Fort Hood Texas. no information on ant services are available at this time. my he rest in peace and prayers go out for family and friends!
  11. I carry 1 chili dog with hot mustard in one pocket, another one with both ketchup and mustard, some extra napkins so my battalion chief can't see that i'm eating while on a job, lol i used to carry all kinds of stuff,as time goes on i have reduced my collection to basically a pair of utility shears from sears(cuts everything), multi purpose screwdriver, electrical tape and some other knik knacks.
  12. Just wondering,is this "LOW FAT"? alcohol
  13. we had 2 of them in my firehouse when i was in the airforce,we didn't use them because if they had finger prints on them we would have to polish them! method of polishing was to take the haeviest firefighter and have him go down the pole with brasso in his hands, then the next heaviest guy would go down with a clean rag<typical GOV'T JOB!
  14. WHY DRY IT? ITS ONLY GOING TO GET WET AGAIN!!! LOL
  15. WHAT YEAR??????????????????????? lol
  16. i heard that part of the reason for another rescue is because it might cut response time down for res 1 who sometimes were delayed covering some of the calls in manhattan. also that the unit is having guys detailed to cover the unit? only hear say so no quotes!
  17. paperwork was recieved fri,7/30. official as of 8/16. now the fun starts?
  18. the paperwork is "in the process" over at the county office building, hopefully soon we will be on our way to teach!!!
  19. heres what really ******* me off, all units calls out of service for a parade. half way through the parade an alarm is tranmitted . The rigs in the parade have guys jump on and go into the response mode along with a couple of chiefs cars.does anyone see a problem here? How about the line of march being overcrowded with kids and others waiting to view the parade, kids who are tough enough to control during the parade are now curious to see whats going on with all the noise coming towards them, the emergency vehicle responding to the incident in a cautious mode. the driver is alert and trying to keep his eye out for that one child who is not supervised, bingo! get my point,a disaster has struck.WHEN A RIG IS CALLED OUT OF SERVICE DURING A PARADE THEN REMAIN OUT OF SERVICE! RESPONDING DOWN A PARADE ROUTE IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I realize that if the dept that is the host of the parade then they have to respond.if they can use an alternate route then do so. for those of you that are in the parades and are getting off blowing the sirens and air horns, believe me the public is not impressed at all. I have seen kids and even older people holding their ears and looking at you like you are some kind of a nut. I realize that during the judged parades not many depts blow the sirens or horns. How professional! then the other non- judged parades- sirens and air horns wailing like crazy. not professional! have fun and remember that you want to make a lasting impression, and a good one! be safe!
  20. With regrets i post the sad info that the 2nd worker Rich Lombardo of Wappingers Falls passed away from the injurys he recieved in the same incident, Rich was approx 24 yrs old and has been with edison for about 3 yrs.

  23. the firefighter I course offered is a great course to take if you can afford to spend the time. throughout the nation the certifications of both ffI and ffII have been offered. here in ny it is finally here and is a great thing to have on a resume if you plan on doing this as a career. even if you don't do it as a career it is still a good thing to have. for some of you junior members here that want to do this as a career have an open mind. do not lock yourself into staying here in ny. many states are always hiring and by having the certs already done it may help out in the hiring process. I know of some depts. that are always hiring throughout the nation. I also have friends that work in alot of other departments in different states who have contacts or info pertaining to the hiring procedures. when i was younger the depts here in westchester as well as fdny were not hiring alot because of the fact that alot of veterans were hired in the mid to late 70s. if you want a job, keep an open mind and take anything you can to put on a resume! be safe
  24. a fund raiser will be held this sat at west point, the fd/pd will square off on the football field .i am not sure what time the football game starts but it should be a good time. tailgating, etc will be going on.
