  1. if he is the chief he is in charge, he does not belong In the structure. as an incident commander he needs to watch the store from the outside especially if it is a fire. even if manpower is short you still need to have him inhis place "OUTSIDE". as far as the mpo minding the storeI do not agree. his job is to get water, maintain adaquate pressure etc. what happens if a supply line breaks during the time frame that he is in charge? he is going to try to re-establish his water supply which will basically take him away from "watching the store" when you don't have someone being a chief this is where all can go wrong. Even with manpower shortages you still need the IC to be the IC. Even with the ranks having assistant chiefs they need to be outside assisting the chief,he may be detailed to the rear of the building or to some other location to assist the chief with the whole operation. the white hats are our protection as firefighters and when they pay attention to the situation they are in charge and they are "watching the store"!
  2. with the recent post of the co calls lets open n go with gas leaks, yesterday in huntington LI a contractor ruptured a gas line to a private dwelling. the structure was evacuated immediately and within minutes the structure was leveled. what is your procedure? do your members take these calls lightly? complacency kills and this is one type of emergency where many can get complacent! about 2 months ago in MV we had a service line leaking in the basement of a 2 1/2 story wood frame.upon arrival the con ed service man was looking for the curb box to isolate the flow of gas. he stated that it was a strong possibility that this house would have blew up if it found an ignition source. be safe!
  3. DID YOU EVER SEE HOW A HOT DOG FLYS OUT OF A SMOOTH BORE NOZZLE AND PUTS OUT A FIRE? AMAZING HOW MUCH KNOCKDOWN POWER A SABRETT REALLY HAS! LOL! OK, I HAD TO TRY TO MAKE A FUNNY HERE.
  4. what do you have in those bags for hangovers???? lol
  5. if you are in doubt and are not sure that your co detector is accurate put a call into con-ed. they will come out even if the structure does not have gas. Con-ed calibrates the detectors more often than the fire depts and they are willing to help!
  6. NOW THAT THE NEW POLITICIANS HAVE BEEN ELECTED THE FIRST NEW LAW ON THE BOOKS SHOULD BE THE ELIMINATION OF THE "POLITICAL TELEMARKETING" THAT THEY ALL HAVE BEEN DOING. LETS HOPE THAT THEY DON'T' GET AHOLD OF OUR CELL #S! AND WHILE WERE ON THIS SUBJECT GO OUT AND TAKE DOWN THE THOUSANDS OF SIGNS THAT WILL NOW BE LITTER IN OUR COMMUNITYS!!!
  7. 2nd alarm? 2 men aren't going to make a difference lol!
  8. cam- the info is in my locker dry rotting!
  9. I CAN ONLY WISH FOR A 24/72 SCHEDULE. IT WOULD RESOLVE SOME PROBLEMS TO INCLUDE SICK LEAVE.CLIFTON NJ WON THE 24/72 SCHEDULE, AT FIRST THE CITY WAS NOT FOR IT AND NOW THAT IT HAS BEEN IN PLACE THE CITY CERTAINLY CAN SEE THE BENEFIT. I READ THE INFORMATION THAT WAS USED TO PROVE HOW MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE THE SCHEDULE COULD BE AND ALOT OF VALID POINTS WERE MADE. MAYBE SOME PEOPLE THAT ARE IN THE POSITION TO CHANGE THE WORK SCHEDULE OUGHT TO GET A COPY N READ IT!!!

  11. remember-brown stripe to the rear and yellow to the front!!!
  12. for those of you that don't realize it,you say "at least its not more c-5's. commmercial air liners will be flying in and out of stewart on a daily basis more than the c-5's ever will and the way that stewart is projected to grow the least of your worry is a C-5 !!!
  13. lt rob- I agree 100 % that members should buy a rope kit if the dept does not supply it,i think the point that I should have made is that the fire officials should be behind the drive regardless who or how the unit is purchased. The training should already have been done by now.
  14. Amazing- a predicted wind storm which came through around 1430 today, nothing major but the results= Engine companys tied up on wires down with no CON EDISON! Good thing they met last month to resolve the problems.
  15. FF Jeff Cool Res 3 FDNY who was one of the survivors that day is trying to get all firefighters nationwide to have these ropes, however from a recent conversation with Jeff it appears that his goal might be a tough one because alot of the fire service leaders that he has contacted do not seem to interested. Coming from a survivor of black sunday its a disgrace that some of the fire service leaders don't step up to the plate and get this goal of jeffs rolling!!!!
  16. the article was informative to the lay person, however-alot of info was not presented or barely touched.Wouldn't it be nice to see a following article pertaining to the citys of westchester addressing issues such as manpower, mutual aid etc.Lets put the facts on the table without pointing fingers or bashing a dept. If a multi alarm fire happened on the upper floors of an high rise in some of the citys in westchester can they be handled? I am not talking about a room and contents fire but a good job on the upper floors with victims trapped and or missing. Reality is reality, are we prepared? Lets hope we do not see it. In many cases it is hard enough to bring a blaze under control in a 2 1/2 story woodframe structure. Manpower is a primary concern for all of us,lets put that on the front page of the Journal news mainly because it effects all of us here in westchester!!!
  17. while we are on the training topic there are still some openings in the Aircraft firefighting class (ARFF) which starts tomorrow (tues nt),for those of you that respond first due to the county airport it might be to your advantage to take this class. 231-1699 with permission from your chief officer.
  18. a truck out of service for a flat???
  19. Hey Skittles,"WHAT THE HELL DID YOU JUST SAY"? LOL
  20. 10-4!!! in the lower county when you go mutual aid into another city the 10-code is all different,it can be confusing. the only thing about the 10 code in the lower citys that may not make a difference is that half the time you don't hear what the other dept is doing or saying because we are all on different frequencys (another serious problem) plain english-keep it short!!!
  21. putting wires underground is like saying every department throughout the USA will man the rigs with 10 firefighters per rig. Our electric rates are high enough and although it is a great idea it will cost us the consumer alot of $$$$ overall!
  22. THE ARFF CLASS(AIRCRAFT RESCUE FIREFIGHTING) IS BEING OFFERED AGAIN IN OCT,GO TO THE WESTCHESTER DES SITE FOR MORE INFO! WILL BE OFFERED IN OCT. GO TO THE WESTCHESTER SITE FOR ADDITIONAL INFO.
  23. a calender is being put together from the Members of FDMV-It should be out soon. The guys involved really had some laughs putting this together and did a great job. I was out of town the day of the picture takin in case anyone was wondering why i was'nt included in the calender. hudson
  24. certain statements that are on here are real valid and i respect all of them, as mentioned before if you do drink then act responsible, don't be a jack***. I have been out many times in uniform EG: after a funeral,St. Patricks day etc. and i do conduct myself in a professional manner. Are some guys out of hand? yes-its up to all of us to say something to him/her if they are from where you are. are we in the public eye? yup- some people don't even care if we exist, some people do not appreciate us until they call us. For those of you that spent any time wearing a military uniform this same situation was present. you always had one dope who could not conduct himself in a manner like others and yes he made an a** out of himself. from reading some of the above its almost like we have to present our selves as nuns (some preists are not a good example these days) so come on give it a break and just behave when you are out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
