  1. Those buildings look ok to me! They just want me to lose the election, hey is the election over yet? DID I WIN? DID I WIN? DID I WIN? DID I WIN? DID I WIN? DID I WIN?
  2. Its official-union reps from local 107 have been advised that work needs to be done to fire HQ and that the dept. is looking into getting trailers to house the staff, fire prevention and the working crews. And it all started from a drip!!!
  3. To fill you all in on what is going on here, 2 weeks ago a company came in to inspect fire headquarters. The company did a walk through that I was present for and basically I was embarrassed as hell that someone from the outside had to see how we live in our "2nd home". The gentleman was a professional and very into his work. Along with him was a deputy commissioner from DPW and a couple of workers from DPW. The reaction from them was sad as well as comical. This gentleman pulled no punches and stated that we as members residing in this house will get a copy of the report because in his line of work it will be a liability for him to hide any hazards from anyone who steps foot in the structure. I felt good about his statement because the company is from Mt Vernon so you know how things operate there. My original thought was that this is another smoke screen but after his statement I felt different. The union has learned that the report is complete. Where is it? If there is any hazards to our members? the people in charge of the dept should make a split decision and get us the hell out of there if the place is not safe! I do not know how the report came out but if the hints during the walk through were any indication of what might come out on paper its time to get the tents out! I am sure that this will be an issue this week because we will not occupy the building if it is not safe. I trust our leaders will do the right thing asap and get us out of there if any question comes up about our safety. Its a shame that we are in this situation. If the roof was fixed 6 yrs ago the city might not be in this predicament where the structure might have to be gutted or razed. After reading alot about this issue that happens all over the outcome usually isn't good. NEGLECT- IS THE ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM AND SOMEONE SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE! Lets see what goes on this week. Are they gonna hide the report like other problems they hide in this dept.? I don't think so. B safe- jjc
  4. Not sure on the timing, on another note-GOOGLE '' mold in firehouses" alot of information which may apply to all of us both in the firehouses and in our own homes.
  5. keep an eye on this one! Breaking news coming soon!
  6. Happy Birthday to the USMC and to all you Veterans out there, Thanks for serving!
  7. CPAT is here but at this point i believe it only covers the agility for the county test, I'm not sure what the citys will be doing.
  8. Does your dept require you to take the dept physical? have they started out on the right foot and then dropped the ball? What happens if you are hurt and you have not been cleared by a medical Dr to perform the task as a firefighter?
  9. yes it would be foam 1, as far as station 3 having alot of room? you can't move in there. New tower 1 is there (broken?) FAB truck, E-3,L-3 and whatever else is floating around. There is also concerns about what to do if Station 1 doesn't pass the inspection from the health dept and private company who was in last week taking air samples, mold samples as well as raw sewage samples. place needs a facelift!
  10. Oshkosh Military P-4 ARFF Fire Truck-1200 GPM/1500 GALS WATER/180 GALS AFFF,in its day and well after according to many Air Force firefighters it was a very dependable as well as versatile apparatus ever in the USAF FD fleet. The above pic is not the one from FDMV but could have been if someone picked up the ball after it was aquired from the Westchester Co. Airport. At the time we got it our normal fleet of rigs was questionable on a daily basis so I guess it was not on the priority list. It did run and did pump when we got it!
  11. PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Firefighter Joe Carroll, a long time employee of the city of Mt Vernon Fire Department will be filing suit in the Federal Courthouse in White Plains next week according to his attorney, Andrew P. Fleming. Fleming, formerly of White PLains, but who practices in the Buffalo area, stated;" Our investigation reveals that Joe Carroll was denied a promotion to lieutenant because he is white." In July, Carroll was all but set to pin on his Lieutenant bars before a group of African-American firefighters, protested the appointment. "Carroll was next on the list" according to Fleming, "but the list was killed for racially motivated reasons." Fleming will be asserting in the Carroll suit, as he recently did on behalf of 13 white firefighters in the city of Buffalo, that Mount Vernon's actions amount to racial discrimination. In the Buffalo action, State Supreme Court Justice John Michalek ruled that the 13 firefighters were, as a matter of law,"discriminated against under circumstances nearly identical to Joe's, according to Fleming. On Friday, Mr Carroll said that he is "anxious to go to court to try to get the promotion I have been working on for years." Point of contact for additional information: Andy P. Fleming (716)491-5943 e-mail:andy@cf-legal.com Fax:(716)648-0810

  15. Mount Vernon Fire Headquarters - EXTREME MAKEOVER? We could only wish!!! More to follow!
  16. to add to my above post- the other city departments in westchester county promote as soon as a vacancy opens, in our situation in MV you can sit on the list for over a year even when there is openings, a past practice that we all hope will be eliminated just like the guy that made it that way! when a retirement occurs and a postion opens up it should be filled asap, lets stop playing mind games with the guys, Mr Diblasi stated that the positions were there and should be filled, the same words that FDMV local #107 officers stated.
  17. lets not forget that if i am not mistaken there are 2 positions there as deputys along with comm suttons position.
  18. DOGPILE?i like that- I wish your 2nd post was your first because it made alot more sense and clearer to us all! Alarmed/yes. If I was in a position to discipline someone for something like this it would be the same way. NYSP/WEST CPD and an arrest would be made. Suspend/terminate whatever you want to call it. Not trying to offend you but I had to say how I felt and understand how you feel also! JJC
  19. Need for alarm? It most certainly is! Lets just say that if a responding rig broadsided a mini van with a family in it and the worst happened would it be a need for alarm then? This has nothing to do with career, volunteer, private fd, police dept. The fact is that it was wrong no matter where the individual was from! Whats wrong is wrong! Step back and read and think slowly what you stated!
  20. from the EEOC investigator-mount vernon will be using a law firm out of long island who need to reply by oct 30 to the complaint filed because of the letter that the Vulcans submitted halting the promotions. I guess the 3 month investigation from the mount vernon law dept into the letter must have some merit if it took 3 months?
  21. FOOD IS GOOD! As i read the many posts pertaining to the FDMV both on here, in the Journal news or where ever else it might pop up lets not forget this- The Mayor runs the city however, who is responsible for the daily operation of the show? I don't care that hands may be tied when it comes to certain things on the job. Many things can or could have been corrected in the FD without spending a dime. Fire Dept management is ultimately responsible for the show to go on! When nobody is at the helm then the ship sinks! Our ship has sunk over and over to a point that the coast guard gave up on us! Maybe someday the helm will be taken over and the dept is allowed to be run correctly not run into the ground. For those of you mention the love for the job, yes the love is still there and over the years I do not recall at anytime us guys complaining about the salarys. Yes money is a driving force for all of us because thats how we survive and provide for our familys. The true issues have been the same for ever, manpower, safety, broken down rigs etc. I often say that the fancy stuff doesn't put out the fires the hoseline, axe, haligan, airpack etc put out the fires along with people who care to do the job and care to know the job. This is all good because I believe that in time the FDMV will rebound, when you hit the bottom there is only one way to go and that is up! As always we thank all of you for the support! Be safe!
  22. I heard recently that the maggots turned into butterflys and flew away so the problem corrected itself! lol
  23. 3 WEEKS--- NO REPLY TO THE EEOC!!!!
  24. WHAT KIND OF BACKGROUND? GOV'T FD? CITY? its tough here to get on right away, you have any military firefighting? jjc where in VA were you?
