Well they had the chance to do the "RIGHT THING" but as always they ****ed someone else again! Someday it might change, what am i thinking? I know the few involved tried to convince them to go right down the list but either ERNIE or someone else didn't think it was right to do it that way. To the 3 who are going to get promoted yes Kenny even you, good luck and be safe!

Today in Manhattan the courts will decide on the issue with promotions for the members of the New Haven FD. Members there also were screwed out of a promotion because of racial issues! Good luck New Haven. Also today in Mt Vernon interviews for the 2 vacant lieutenants positions will be held. Lets see what kind of game playing will go on. Is this going to be a last ditch effort for Ernie to take care of his loyal buddys and promote them? Is Ernie going to pull a fast one and create a new position for a long time family friend who was always there with a big smile on TV until the results of the election were final? This is going to be an interesting week or two. I wish all the candidates (most of them) good luck!

The trailers are in, 3 of them in fact. Hats off to all involved to help rectify a long and overdue problem. 1 down 3 to go! In other words lets do the "RIGHT THING" for the other brothers located at stations 2,3 and 4. Clean em up n fix em up.

Recently a major bust was made here in the Montrose area in a residential area for crystal meth. The home owner evidently was producing his own product within the residential structure. The house is an ordinary 1 family home similar to many throughout the northern Westchester "Bedroom" communities. As you might see here the point I am trying to make is that this can happen anywhere out there. Over the years seminars on this stuff have been available and meth labs have been spoken about in the classrooms in the fire academies. What hazards might we encounter with these labs? What products should we be aware of? I am sure many of the PD officers or haz mat guys can add more for us all to learn from. So- the forum is open!

ok Tommy. maybe the persons to be notified to have a heads up outlook might be our sanitation guys. I know that they see what is going on!

thanks medic, alot of info on that site.

Can't tell ya,"TOP SECRET"!

What differences might we see between commercial/residential units???
-
It is a good subject and along with procedures for venting maybe one of you ''WIRE NUTS'' (electricians) can educate us a little on the hazards of these units to include shut off procedures, how much if any "juice" may be stored in the units.

Because of others we may learn. In NYS an accident which was a fatal accident from a "live burn drill", a firefighter lost his life and a fire officer is serving time. The nys live burn policy is an important document put into place to make sure that situations that have happened do not take place again. The procedures are in place for our protection. It does not matter if you are doing a class A burn or simply burning a car up for training. Yes, the best training and most productive training as far as getting the real "hands on" experience can be a live burn but you have to do it correctly. The liability factor in place is strong and you better do it right or you might be in alot of trouble in the end. Lets just say we are going to do a live car fire drill. No big deal? If I get this video clip on here you might change your minds. The clip shows a van heavily involved in fire and apparantly the fuel tank lets go. Flames are shot across the lanes of traffic poroble a good 30-40 ft. I do not have the guidelines in my possession right now but I am sure that others havee access to them to post here to give you an idea of what is required. Lets not forget, a small incident can escalate into a larger one sometimes with tragic results. EG;Baltimore, Amsterdam ny, lairdsville. b safe no luck in downloading,if someone can post it thank you,

Tonight on News 12 Former Fire Commissioner Nick Cicchetti of Mount Vernon and Jonathan Lovett stated that a lawsuit is in place against outgoing Mayor Ernie Davis. Nick Cicchetti was recently dismissed by the 12 yr mayor. Who's next?
-
He is quoted as saying,"I felt like I was slapped in the face"!

recently attending the training for the CPAT I'm glad that I am on the job for 20 yrs. The instructor from LA county really stressed the importance of being in shape and ready for the CPAT. He did mention that like previously mentioned alot of candidates don't make it past the first station. If you are going to take it work hard and get into shape, take the practice CPAT to see how you make out. If you can't complete a task its a failure. Good luck & GO FOR IT! By the way, as I am typing this the yodels and milk are great!

my phone has been ringing, beeping and I am getting some strong reports that the mayor of Mt Vernon has fired the Fire commissioner? Sources say that the "COMMISH" showed up at FDMV HQ with MVPD officers and was seen cleaning out his car and handing the keys to the Police officer. For a full report go to news 12 or lowhud.com to view it on RNN.

anything is possible-its called politics!!!

"AIR AND SURFACE SAMPLING HAS IDENTIFIED "UNACCEPTABLE" LEVELS OF MOLD AND BACTERIA ON THE 1ST AND 2ND FLOORS AND IN THE BASEMENT, tHIS WAS FROM THE REPORT OF THE TESTING DONE RECENTLY ON FIRE HEADQUARTERS .AGAIN A QUOTE '' there is no immediate health hazard''.
-
Is a commissioner of public safety going to come out of this? in the Rnn interview mayor Davis mentioned something about saving money. Just a thought or more so a guess!
-
A few years ago at Fire HQ there was boxes of pictures in the basement from the photo lab that used to be on the 2nd floor,I think that alot of them were tossed because of the past sewage leaks. Still might be some floating around though.maybe you can look jim.
-
Thank God the Fire commissioner came through and saved the day! If it wasn't for him i don't know what they would have done!

THE HAZARDS OF MOBILE HOME FIRES- FIRE ENGINEERING MAGAZINEFire_Engineering___MOBILE_HOME_FIRES__PART_1_PROBLEMS_AND_PREFIRE_PLANNING.htm CHANNEL 12 JUST HAD COVERAGE ON THE SITUATION AND WHAT A SMOKE SCREEN IT WAS! COME ON NICK-7 DAYS A WEEK? THAT WAS A GOOD ONE!!! THIS IS CRAZY,YES FINALLY THEY ARE TRYING TO DO THE RIGHT THING BUT DAMAGE CONTROL IS TOO LATE! THE ROOF LEAKED FOR OVER 5 YEARS AND NOW ITS A PRIORITY? IF IT WASN'T FOR THE GUYS BITCHING RECENTLY THIS WOULDN'T BE AN ISSUE. THIS IS GETTING FUNNIER BY THE MINUTE! NEXT THEY WILL BE BLAMING THE FBI FOR THE HOLES IN THE ROOF! IMAGINE- A TRAILER HOME WITH A SIGN ON IT SAYING "FIRE PREVENTION''
-
I THINK THAT i WOULD BE MORE COMFORTABLE IN A HOUSEBOAT! Here is the plan: 3 mobile homes will be placed on the HQ property at 470 E Licoln ave, 1 for the crews (E6/TRK2) 1 for fire prevention & secretaries, 1 for chief, commish n dep commish. something like that. It sounds as if this is going to happen asap, for them to act as quick as they are I feel that the report that came back friday that I reviewed today must have some merit or some serious eye raising facts. We were told today that there is "NO REAL HAZARDS'' to be concerned about? I'm sorry but as far as i'm concerned I'm out of there! When you read all of the info out there about mold/mildew/dust etc. I find it hard to believe that "NO REAL HAZARDS" placard should be on the front door of HQ. This sounds like a total gutt job that will take some time, when they start opening up the walls who knows what is going to be found. Anything can happen now, opening a can of worms might apply here. Overall if they do what they say they want to do fire HQ should be nice when complete. 9 months to a year was mentioned as the time frame and as soon as possible to get the members out and into the trailers. only time will tell now!

Sounds like a press release tomorrow about the terrible conditions of the firehouses, not sure where,when,why-wait we all know why! cya tomorrow!

congrats Jimmy! Now get the boat back in service, jjc

A STRONG POINT#8- To use the TIC as a tool to locate the heat source or fire, as mentioned earlier in the year i believe back in march at least 3 fatalities were from the first hoseline crews falling through the floors. If you have the TIC you can see what is above you, below you,ifo you etc. This is a valuable tool when attacking fires. Its a shame that many depts. do not include the TIC on the first line in. In this case as well as the others floor failure could have been recognized because you would have been able to see high heat/fire burning through the floor. In the other cases the members did not realize that a basement fire was present, same thing happened-floor failure with the members going into the basement. Think about the old booby trapped structures where the floors were cut out. this still exists maybe not as much as back in the 70s but they are still out there. Alot of us can learn from these tragic situations and hopefully change your SOP's to keep the worst from happening.b safe! jjc
