  1. The audit is out, MV recieved a "FAIR" rating, a "GENEROUS FAIR" rating I was told. It will be available monday on the nys civil service site. A meeting is supposed to take place in the near future to explain to the powers to be what rules they need to go by. In the past there has been no rules! Time will tell.
  2. With the spring class starting sometime in March 2008 its time for those who are close to getting hired to keep an eye on things. For the people on the list in MV keep an eye out for the wrongful tactics usually used when hiring. IF you are within the top 10 on the list and they are hiring it is in your best interest to do the right thing and keep an eye on the hiring process. This is basically watching out for yourself and mainly for your career. Alot of rumors are flying about who, when, and why not they are going to hire! Fight for yourself and don't letter ANYONE get in your way! Good Luck, JJC
  3. FDMV=0?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
  4. ITS 4 DAYS TILL THE ACADEMY STARTS,ANY WORD ON WHAT DEPTS. ARE HIRING???
  5. The audit from NYS Civil Service is not a monetary audit, it is an audit on hiring practices, promotional practices etc. There is information out there that some people who have worked for MV for years have not passed an exam yet but are still working in MV. Overall-the former administration did'nt appear to go by any rules! So you study your butt off, take the test, place high on the list and just sit on the list because others are working in the position even though they failed or didn't even take an exam? Lets hope the new administration straightens this out. Hudson
  6. Maybe we could have scrapped it at Bass for additional money to put towards the bail out ropes, along with running a car wash and having a bake sale we might get them! "WISHFULL THINKING''!!!!!!!!!!
  7. A quick thanks to all, we had a great time with alot of laughs! JJC
  8. If you are involved in a Fire Department and you are not happy with how things are being done I suggest that you become a part of the solution! If you want to have a voice then come election time for the Fire Districts get the petition needed to run for the office of Fire Commissioner. Yes, over the years many Commissioners are former Chiefs, if they don't come in with attitude of "We didn't need that when I was a Chief'" then they can be an asset. A department that I am associated with has a health and safety committee that has 2 officers, 2 commissioners, and 3 firefighters on the comm. and anything that a member might be concerned about can give the info to one of them and they will investigate the complaint or suggestion out which usually is a benefit to the dept. On the career side the Fire Commissioner's position is a different ballgame. Not to get deep but from my experience I have seen some negative results. (we won't go there) A person for the Full time Fire Commissioner needs to have a working knowledge of the job. Have a business type of background and works as an administrator. This is an important role, the mayor needs to let this individual run the show for the best interest of the citizens and the safety of the work force. He/She can't give away the store but on the same note shouldn't let the Dept. go down the tubes either. A strong leader is a must here! Its amazing how in some citys the Police Department is run by someone who has" been there, done that" but the FD is just some political allie. Nobody wins here. Be a voice, if you sit back and complain it usually falls on deaf ears. Apply yourself and be a part of the solution! Good Luck.
  9. Some depts here in westchester are still behind in distributing the bailout ropes, systems etc. If you have one what did your dept go for? how much did it cost? what training did you recieve? If the dept you are from did not abide by Gov Spitzers law what is being done to correct the non compliance?
  10. Since the start of this post alot of valid points have been raised, the question still might be this: why are some depts. not complying to the rules? Do they care? Are the members not worrying about their own safety? Is the liabilty factor even considered. Are the leaders of the Depts. that are not complying even aware of the laws in place? Are the safety committees or unions putting pressure on the Chiefs who are simply turning their heads the other way? Alot more can be said here. When someone gets hurt or killed they will be in the same position as FDNY with pending lawsuits etc. There is no excuse! As Capt Benz stated "Its a part of your PPE"!!!!!!!
  11. GOOGLE INDIANAPOLIS FIREFIGHTERS SUE.
  12. How many more lives is it going to take before NYS DOT realizes that this road is a death trap! It took several fatal accidents over the years for them to put the dividers up from annsville circle all the way down into mt pleasant near the county police barracks. The corrider from the rte 9/ 9A split south used to be terrible. Come on NYS DOT wake the hell up. Our familys frequent these roads.
  13. We were sent to the scene after taking care of a malfunctioning boiler in MV, FDMV R1 to meet up with Eng 6 And Trk 2. We ended up putting fire out in the penthouse apartments like it was a training drill. Then the FDNY rolled in with I think an overall 3rd alarm assignment. Interesting morning!
  14. Date: 4 Feb 08 Time: 1000 hrs Location: 400 block of Garden Ave Frequency: 154.145 Units Operating: Engs 5,3,4,trk3,trk2,res 1 Eng-6 "fast Team" Description Of Incident: MV Tennis Bubble Writer: hudson 144 Original call of outside pile of wood close to the Tennis Bubble 1004-1 & 1 to cover sta #3 1007- main body of fire knocked down, checking for extension on interior
  15. according to the Town Of Cortlandt Supervisors office letters have been written to NYS DOT addressing the hazards and the DOT feels that the roadway did not warant the dividers. I guess the person in charge for the DOT needs more fatalities to occur! Remember the days of 9A hill, or the stretch from the croton river bridge down to the old Hawthorne circle when the hazards were similiar to the BMP or the stetch from welcher ave to annsville circle where I knew 4 people killed on that stretch. Come on NYS DOT do the right thing!
  16. hey nick, what kind of tires do you have on that rig?
  17. Todays journal news- ongoing problems with all 4 firehouses. Union officials have contacted local newspapers etc about the horrible conditions that the FDMV have to face on a daily basis. Maggots, bedbugs, mice to mention a few of the critters have made themselves a home. Mold and mildew as well as raw sewage is present possibly creating a health hazard. In HQ the constant water leaks from the roof that has been a constant mess because the holes still exist in the ceilings. Mold and mildew are present also. Its time for the city of Mt Vernon to step up and correct the below standard conditions! The Dept Of Labor has been notified and hopefully they will inspect and make MV "CLEAN HOUSE"!!!
  18. As i march through this unfortunate sutuation within the FDMV I have been educated on many topics. One topic that I must pass on to you all is the recent audit that has been completed by the New york State civil service commission. Although I have not been given the information I now feel that when the audit is complete some questions will be hanging over the heads of many supervisors within the mount vernon city hall. I won't even touch base on the Fire Dept that i am sure will be mentioned because of certain people leading the charge to change the rules on a daily basis without permission from ny state and from straying from rules put in place back in 1980 with a decree that has been in place for 27 years. It almost appears that this city is exempt from any New York State rules. How ironic that this will be hitting the press soon to show how corrupt things have been. Sit back and watch the show!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Don't forget to thank SANTA for promoting 3 when there was only 2 open spots lol! Merry Christmas to all! HO,HO,HO
  20. To a speedy recovery and a merry christmas joe!
  21. if a deputy chief is OIC in a minor incident it would be a great benefit for a junior officer to be the IC if his plans are to go above to the next step. Experience equals knowledge and there is no better place to learn than to be in charge when it all happens!
  22. RETIRE--------- NO WORK JUST PLAY!!!
  23. I guess when i retire and i run for a chiefs spot my boat wouldn't look good on the back? you never know, someone might need some help out on the river! don't forget the bait! lol
