  4. Excellent, very good, good, fair, poor, unsatisfactory- When you read the report alot of the practices of the former mayor such as hiring provisionals were mentioned. Overall civil service needs to clean up its act. In fact the regional director met 2 weeks ago with the new mayor advising him that there are rules to go by. In other words, it was ernie's rule, not civil service rules! The fair rating was a "GENEROUS FAIR RATING" as I was advised!
  5. http://www.cs.state.ny.us/pio/information.cfm look for mount vernon! audits
  6. I see that the audit for Mount Vernon post has been closed so I will post it here because this topicis in line with the civil service commission of MV. Today the NYS Civil Service Commission has posted om thier web site the release of the recent audit of MV. A 30 page document which says alot. Alot of work for civil service for the near future!
  7. Just to add a bit about Foam1, the rig was aquired from the Westchester co airport with alot of red tape being cut. At the time that the rig (P-4) was recieved it was still in service as a spare at the airport. I was not a the fire last night and I am not going to comment if the Foam unit would have helped but suppose that this fire was 1 mile south from the incident and it was at the fuel terminals, yes the argument would be stronger about the use of the P-4. When we got the rig part of the thought was 1) to protect the fuel terminals on the southside of MV. 2) that if needed somewhere in the lower county I-95 or main st usa for a tanker fire this unit could be available. Over the years MV had a foam unit that did cover quite a bit of incidents. I remember it going to the grasslands reservation along time ago. At this point in time I don't know if the unit can be salvaged. Many rigs over the years have been refurbished including the same unit we have talked about. From the situation or status of FDMV I really don't think that the funding should be used to refurbish the rig primarily because we need many other things to be taken care of. Firehouses is a priority right now. If an outside agency such as Prague oil or whoever else is down there wants to spend some $ to refurb the rig then that would be great. From what I hear they hads their hands full last night and did the job like we normally do. And yes we do more with less which is nothing to be proud of but its a fact. The unit could be a benefit to all but its something that has to be adressed by administrators of the depts. which might benefit. The unit might be beyond the refirb stage. We will see what happens, maybe BASS or BROOKFIELD might have some use for it! B safe,Hudson
  8. Of course I had to throw a funny in about he gaas.In a recent boating magazine the issue was brought up about the ethanol. In a nutshell if you don't use it being the boat or anything motorized with gasoline you might have a problem.i know that when i put my boat away in dec I used a product made by StarBrite. It is supposed to help out the situation. For those of us that have saws that aren't really used much this might be a problem within your own dept or around your house. Sams, generators, blowers etc. Look up starbrite products and you will see what they have to say about ethanol and small engines. Hudson
  9. I've had bad gas before! lol

  11. It looks like another firehouse in MV is under the watchful eye. A sign posted in the apparatus area states that "nobody is permitted in the basement area." The floor is the question this time, engineers according to one union official have been there to see if the concrete slabs are safe or not. 2 engines are stationed there. hopefully the floors will not collapse! only skinny guys are asssigned there now!
  12. Its never in service anyway! A real shame, it has a mind of its own. The old mack tower ladder which is older than most of the guys on the job has been more dependable. Just my thoughts---
  13. Recently the U.S. Equal Employment Oppurtunity Commission has completed (EEOC) their investigation into the charges that I filed with them for the promotion that did not take place in July 2007. Because of the EEOC ruling in my favor the Department of Justice (DOJ) will now issue the "right to sue" letter for discrimination charges along with the Equal protection/due process suit filed in December 2007. Thanks for all of your support, J Carroll FDMV
  14. Go to Walmart! just kidding.
  15. If it was me- I would consult an attorney especially with the history of the hiring practices as well as promotional practices from the past. What some fail to remember here is that you are messing with peoples lives, careers etc. I do not know any of the 5 but from the newspaper the other day the union president made it a point that the 5 slots were vacant, why were they vacant? retirement, promotions etc. The money was there because those slots are within our 143 man roster. Don't hire anyone-next he will be complaining about the OT! Oh well.
  16. 5 pm whistle= Get your butt home for dinner!
  17. Snotty- by becoming a Fire District the funds would be seperate from the citys tax base, how would that be done and would it be easy to establish a fire district with joint depts? In other words- if each municipality charged each homeowner, business etc a fire tax this would all be into one budget? Then it would be used to pay salaries, benefits etc? Has any numbers been discussed? It looks interesting.
  18. Westchester 3000? Barry- if the hudson regional depts did it why can't we? Depts like west ny NJ- if I am not misyaken they merged to help the various depts with manning etc.
  19. J Flynn- to address why nobody said anything about why the 5 in MV were not hired its because of the budget and that the dept is looking to put in 4 generators for the firehouses! (BS) we all know why the hiring didn't take place. As far as the mayor saying about the budget as well as the generators, I read something which basically showed that the mayor was trying to make a point why he didn't hire. For one, those positions have been in the budget for years. Because of the fact that promotions took place as well as retirements that is where the 5 slots came from. Its not like these 5 positions were an increase to the manning. He stated that he was looking into much needed generators. (not a budget item) A grant was recieved a few years ago for the generators= more missing grant funds under the Davis administration! Alot of this stuff on this post is intersting reading, very valid points. when we send a trk/eng out on mutual aid we decrease our manpower almost to 1/2. By all rights we should not be sending anyone out of town! Some day it might happen where they get caught but it would be old news the next day.
  20. I have one, great light when you are crawling in a smokie enviroment or out in the street at night being able to be seen.(white light) Is what I have.
  21. If I'm not mistakin, the rescue was parked 2-3 homes away from original fire bldg. Guess it spread? lol
  22. LOL-amazing how the 5 members were sent to get measured for their turnout gear 2 weeks ago and then get slapped in the face with not being hired! when you read the article i can see that a couple of people better go to confesion this week. Like a skunk- IT STINKS!!! I wonder if any of those 5 quit their jobs, gave 2 week notices etc. With the NYS audit due any minute now maybe the new mayor will be educated a bit when NYS civil service visits him and advises him about the rules and regs in place that need to adhered to. Ernie did what he wanted to do and it looks like Clinton has the same agenda! As i read the article again I want to bring out a point, those 5 positions are vacant because of retirements, promotions, injurys etc. the money is already there for those positions. Come may when vacations start and the manpower is not there because members are scheduled to be off whats the excuse going to be then? "THE BUDGET''? Or are we going to go down to a real minimal amount of manpower and point the finger at somebody else when one of us gets killed or civilian lives are at risk? Its pretty bad when you have a busy FD such as FDMV and there is more manpower on a garbage truck than an engine co. Years back they talked about an outside consulting firm to come in and do a evaluation of the dept. Do it now, a great idea!
  23. If I am not mistaking it started from a molotov cocktail, a former police detective lived there then went onto become police commish.
  24. The audit which has been complete for months now will be available for view in March. Originally it was supposed to be out last year but was delayed for certain reasons. I am not sure what will be on there but the rating that I believe MV might get will tell the story. To view this you can google NYS Civil service, click on Human Resources and then look for press releases. A recent audit of New Rochelle and other cityies in NY are posted. Interesting reading! Hudson
  25. Word in the house is that the VULCANS got to the mayor and everything was halted?
