Over the past years the C&O teams have been established here in Westchester Co. I know from years ago the DA's office of Westchester ran the show.If somebody can post here the facts on the C&O teams it would be interesting for all of us. The zones, what is available, what credentials you might need to be involved etc. Thanks Hudson

Rumor has it that it is possible that Mayor Clinton Young will be appointing a new Fire Commissioner on Wed july 9,2008. Deputy Commissioner Deborah Norman has been at the helm since former Commissioner Nick Chicchetti was fired in Dec by former mayor Ernie Davis. Interviews have been held over the last 6 months and no strong word on who will get the position.

12' boat on the Hudson,nah-not a good idea. At times there are 5' waves out there and thats when boaters might need help.It does look like a fun boat but safety wise IMO it would be a pick and choose day to put it in the water. Coverage is widely needed out there. As posted before the Coast Guard is limited in our area. The need for a larger response on the river is needed along with strong working inter county coordination. The recent tragic loss at Con Hook island is a great example on how many resources are available to assist each other in a mishap. This situation was a single vessel with 5 PIW. (people in water). In the event of a commutor vessel, large frame aircraft etc. mishap out there we will be taxed to the limit. Over the years river towns have been getting more involved and its certainly in the right direction. b safe.

Whats the big stink? it was a rig that was going out to the pasture. Didn't need another clunker hanging around. At least it is gone now~

LOl chris, if its donated and can be used to help with ff safety its an improvement.Manpower? well thats another story. I know what you mean about $ used for manpower but I am not sure if this is the type of benefit that can be used for manpower. There are ways to get manpower and I am not sure what has been done and if anything has been done to seek out funds to increase manning. Everything appears to be at a standstill,no commish? etc. The priority with any handline going in is to have a TIC because of the above mentioned reasons. The guys bust butt and if there is anything to improve the fireground conditions I am all for it. Manpower doesn't appear to be a fight anymore. In fact I don't what the union has going on at this point. We will see what goes on in the"near" future with this dept. Might be some interesting changes down the road.

A great asset to the FDMV inventory. Yes we have had 3 TICS in service in the past but having more now can help to make sure the 1st line in will have a TIC to scan overhead,IFO,and below to locate the fire. Last year in 3 months 4 LODD's might have been prevented if a TIC was present. Jan-Mar firefighters were killed because of them falling through the floor into basement fires. A special thanks to the Farrell family to help out the FDMV.

Over the past few years I have posted on here the importance of having marine units in service on the Hudson. This is a very tragic incident which only confirms my thoughts about the river. Last night the river was calm as can be. Not many boats were out and look what happens. From the TZ-Beacon NB bridge there are alot of boats with alot of inexperienced people driving them. I haven't talked to anyone yet who was at the scene but from looking at the situation I would say speed was 1 factor involved in this incident. Many times at night you can hear from my house which is exactly 1 mile from the river a boat flying out there. There is a big difference from night/day. The place where this incident took place is a tricky part of the river where many boats over the years have went aground. As you come south you can see the lights on the Bear Mtn Bridge and you think that you can continue south with no problem. If you look at the picture posted in the other post you can see how somebody can screw up.A close friend of mine did it about 12 yrs ago the fortunate thing was that nobody was hurt. The river is not a joke and should not be taken lightly! Good job to all involved out there under tough conditions! Hudson.

This summer we have seen some crazy storms roll through the Hudson Valley area. Yesterday one in the early am and then around 3:30 pm a storm with some great bolts of lightning hitting the area. Living in Louisiana years ago I have seen some crazy storms hit the NW corner of La. and these storms reminded me of back then. On the radio I heard that 12 people were struck in the area. About 15 yrs ago when I was out on the river my antenna starting buzzing,my hair was standing up (keep in mind i had more hair then) and my fishing lines were actually lifting up in the air without any help from the wind. I guess this was as close as I could get to getting struck because according to my sources the static electricity was there and conditions were right. Since then I have gained alot of respect for lightning and I know the hazards that we may face. As firefighters we are often called out on many storm related incidents here in the HV. Lets start a forum to help remind each other of the hazards that we may encounter as emergency responders when the lightning is striking all around us.

FDMV Engine 3 & 4 -- water comes out as needed,no real bells or whistles on the rigs and they do their job as 1st line engines. Some problems in the beginning but appear to be ok now!
