  1. First day at the academy-good luck to all!
  2. A recent e mail about truss construction without gusset plates certainly has raised a concern. This is a major safety issue for all us and certainly should be closely looked at. The use of glue is being used as a substitute for gusset plates and is only a sure sign for failure. Be aware out there!
  3. ok that was the power point that chief hac sent me,its good to view and of course teach with, ty hac
  4. That truck i think was from plainfield NJ or north plainfield.
  5. Today in Mount Vernon City hall 2 Firefighters were promoted to the rank of Fire Lieutenant. 8 new members of the Department were sworn in as probationary firefighters scheduled to start in the academy oct 6th,2008 and a recently retired member came back on the job! Good luck to all of you!
  6. LTNRFD-yes,and the garbage can was always available! lol
  7. wow-blast from the past! I can remember working there the night the FALN blew up the union carbide building down from the police academy. At that time there was no police academy and when the bomb blew the concussion came right up the hill. The door was open and I felt the blast. A crazy night for sure. Back then we had only one operator on duty. In many instances if a mutual aid fire was active a operator was called in on OT. Most of the time we logged fire calls throughout the county, called the depts for MVA's on the parkways/highways. The first FD in was Pound Ridge then many followed. Croton falls, goldens bridge ,south salem to mention a few. Over the years communications operator came and gone and was a stepping stone for many of us. Alot of laughs and yes a great place to meet many from all over. The nights were brutal staying awake.Eating no doze and drinkinf coca cola left your heart beating and it was tough because many times you were alone by yourself. Hudson--- #609 1983-1986
  8. A few yrs back a member(caucasion) transferred to another dept, after some time there he elected to come back to FDMV,with much resistance of course from the V's. Now i highly doubt that anyone protested when this member came back, again the one way street certainly does go one way!
  9. The new probationary members will fill the empty positions from both retirements and promotions.I think it was mentioned at the ceremony that the manning (roster) is finally at its capacity.Unlike MVPD(over 200 members) we have not had any increase in the charter for more manpower in a long long time. The union always pushed for promotions as well as increasing manpower. Maybe this would be the time to start to lobby for more? You have a Fire commish who was a union boss, you have a Captain who is up the mayors butt and is pulling his strings on everything to include who gets hired and promoted you would hope that he would pee in the mans ear for safety related items. We will see as time goes on.
  10. And after a few messages sent to me,yes they did skip the #2 #3 on the list to get to #4! History repeats itself again! Either way good luck to all involved,Hudson.

  12. We have pleny of mice, the "RATS" are in turnout gear! lol
  13. On sept 9 the civil service commission of MV along with the MV Chief of staff traveled north to Albany to meet with the NYS civil service commission. In a televised webcast that can be viewed on the nys civil service web site the commission was there to explain what they are trying to do to correct the difficiencies in the audit from last year. Many times the commision had pointed the finger at former mayor Ernie Davis for its incompetance as a commission which was suppose to govern hiring/promotion practice in MV. The mentioning of updating with computors etc was discussed. At one point the state commission even mentioned that maybe Westchester County civil service could take over to help resolve the problems that has plagued MV in the past. It was obvious that excuses were made for many of the past situations and hopefully with the close eye on MV the commission will correct the wrongdoings from the past. Time will tell!!! * go to nys civil service, click on civil service commision.then on right go to webcasts, the 1st one is where mt vernon is,you need to scroll into the program (about 30mins)
  14. Is Denzel gonna pick up the tab? lol
  15. Where i grew up at 5pm the whistle blew and you better get you butt home for dinner,we usually were out riding bikes, playing football/baseball etc. I guess in some communities the sirens might drown out the volume on the video games!
  16. Two metro north supervisors from croton harmon "suspended without pay" for cashing in on scrap metal. Looks like some disciplinary action ahead for these two supervisors. Reminds me of something recently in the fire service.
  17. Can you just imagine how much money you could get if those garbage bags had a rescue truck in it????
  18. Thoughts and prayers go out to the Vize family as well as to the MVPD. jjc
  19. It appears that there was some type of mis-understanding here on the river, after all these years of finally getting both the FD/PD involved out there IMO there is no room for confrontations on the water or on land. For the agencys involved out there either with this incident or possibly the next incident it should be addressed asap. The scene of an emergency is no place to argue who is in charge or who's district the incident has taken place in. From the mishap at con hook island to this incident its quite evident that a problem does exist. Many of the people involved out there do read this board so lets get it together and straighten things out diplomatically. Happy sailing! HUDSON 144
  20. THE RUG-yes it sounds like this incident was pushed under the rug! Nobody talk about it, they might all forget that it happened!!! Business as usual in FDMV!
  21. Hey when you guys in yonkers put a rig out of service do you just "GIVE THEM AWAY TO FRIENDS" ? or are their channels that you have to go through? lol
