  1. You are not wrong, I agree with you. There is only an entrance to the Taconic N there at that screwy intersection. No S/B entrance, which can be frustrating and misleading for a confused driver looking to go south, home to LI. I can't surmise what happened in this tragedy, but perhaps she mistakenly went the wrong way on the NB exit ramp, looking to go SB.
  2. There is no S/B entrance to the Taconic off of Bedford Road, which is a little confusing. Also, if you do a streetview with the above address, even the Google van was subjected to major sunglare. I was listening to 60 Control when this job was being toned out, and it gave me goosebumps. God bless the families of the folks involved, and of course the responders. The Hawthorne FF that was on TV was clearly shaken.
  3. He smacked his head pretty hard on a rough landing of a USAIR flight in Florida yesterday. Autopsy tomorrow should tell if that had anything to do with it. RIP Billy!
  4. When BS response numbers and overall response times go through the roof (not counting PD phone time), and heaven forbid 10-45s go up, maybe.
  5. Check out Oak Hill Condos off of Colonial Pkwy in Yonkers. I live around there, real nice area on Yonkers/Tuckahoe border. Walk to Tuckahoe train station. Super quiet, but close to everything. Phone number for their office is 914 337-1312.
  6. A couple more duplicate shots of L75, L73 and the Squad... This Smeal/Schmeal thing was a pain to shoot, after almost getting run over multiple times on Midland... And finally the SQWAD:
  7. Yeah, this thing doesn't look like it would turn down most streets, or navigate the hills without bottoming out. Hell, they took a few minutes to park it...
  8. Ah, Jimmy got to the computer before me, again! Most of my shots are near duplicates of his, but I will add another picture of the Collapse rig. I really dug the composite around the grill/headlights - a new twist on a familiar old Mack face... After chasing the "Urban Search and Rescue" tractor trailer monster back to the shops, noticed 2 more Mack cabs sitting around: While waiting around for Ladder 75 to get back from a car wreck, took a shot of Mask Service. Lighting inside was a little funny, but it came out ok: And finally, another shot of 63 engine's new Seagrave Marauder II. I like the black numbering. That's it for now...thanks to all the Yonkers guys that helped us out today, the folks at E63, and of course the Rock n Roll Supervisor, JBE!
  9. Nice pics. In the first pic, notice how Yankee Stadium and the rigs have the same font...
  10. Why, yes it is...everything is better with a beer holder!
  11. Craftsman LT1000 20HP ride on. I beat the everloving poop out of it up at the farm, and the engine is tough. It takes abuse with zero maintenance. Only complaint is the mower deck -it's been broken about 5 times - but I guess it's not designed to mow 4 foot high, 2 inch thick weeds and the occasional football-sized rock. Here's a quick start and drive of it after sitting for about 2 months:
  12. A couple of weeks ago on the 16th, I was eating lunch in the conference room at work, and the building shook. Four F-16s were circling fairly low, and I watched them head south toward the city and start circling there. Naturally we all feared the worst, but after some phone calls, I found out it was just a flyover for the Yankees opening day. Guess I would have known if I was a Yankees fan : )
  13. That fourth picture looks a lot like this one - taken last month. Rebadged for Buckshollow?
  14. Sounds like the usual weekend Westchester PD flights we get here in the southern part of the county. They love circling...and were over Yonkers/Tuckahoe/Bronxville about an hour ago.
  15. Wonder why this never caught on?? courtesy failblog.org
  16. A few weeks late and a couple bucks short, here's the audio from Yonkers FD: http://www.firegroundphotos.net/bronxco/meteor.wma
  17. I definitely heard this. I'm on the east end of Tuckahoe Rd, near the Bronx River. My first thought was the Con Ed plant on the other side of town went up. Yonkers FD got multiple calls for an explosion, and were running all over looking for a transformer. Guess they shoulda been looking for a space rock!
  18. Seems JBE covered most of the shots that I got! A grey Sunday out cruising in the buffmobile, the initial goal was 81's new rig. Note the aftermath of an all-hands on Bailey in the background: I/F/O quarters from across Bailey: After hitting a couple other houses down south, we took in a small-hands up on University. 81 went to work: These new pump panels are smart - they even know the time and date! And finally, a derriere shot of 37 Truck:
  19. Nice shots. Amazing there was no entrapment. That is some very well-mixed cement right there.
  20. Nice ride. I much prefer the black rims with the silver center caps on cop Chargers, as opposed to the stock chrome mag wheels. What frequency range is the flat round antenna? Any advantages/disadvantages over a standard whip antenna?
  21. Great pic. Anyone know what side of the street that was on? Any of those buildings still standing? Sorta looks like the North/West side of S. Main, just south of Westchester Ave, where the old "Steamship Tickets" brass embossing in the sidewalk is.
  22. The signal 5-5-5-5 was transmitted this morning over NYC fire radio. RIP brother.
  23. Yonkers has one of those first ugly buggers all shined up behind closed doors in the shops on the north end of Nepperhan, opposite McDonalds parking lot. Good photo ops, as well as the shops further down - park in the lot of 470 Nepperhan for good spy shots also.
  24. Rest in Peace, Doc.
  25. NYPD used (and still uses) Saber I's. Saber II's have more zones, an LCD display, and 3 red function buttons. Saber III's have a display and full keypad. In my opinion, it truly is one hell of a durable radio. I've had lots, and next to the old silver MX300 series (talk about a brick...more like a cinder block), it can't be beat. Military entities still use them. I've heard that since Motorola stopped making the Saber, NYPD asked them to make something similar, and the result was the SSE5000 (very similar to Saber I) - I am not sure if they are in service yet. NYPD currently has many Vertex VX-520s in use.
