The "Stamford Merger" thread................IT'S ALIVE!........lol
-
Hi Tommy, This isn't directed at you personally. What's up with the "go after" mentality? I mean to a certain extent we've all bought into the rhetoric that has come from the political discourse. "Go after" has been ingrained in our collective thoughts as if there has to be some group that bears responsibility for the problems the country has been having. Within every segment of our society there are people who obviously have taken advantage of others for their own greedy reasons. There is unfortunately corruption, greed, and cheating virtually everywhere. But it's never an entire group. Not even the bankers. We as a society can begin to solve some of these problems when we can move past the "go after" entire segments of society; because they wear a uniform, or teach, or even work in the political world. I've known some politicians who have incredible integrity. A fighter pilot during Vietnam (no not John McCain, never met him) who flew 200 sorties during the war. He entered politics to make a difference, to help people. In the same way cops and firemen help people. In the same way teachers help people. The answer to solving the problems that our society is having is to utilize and respect the solutions that smart people have come up with. For instance the consolidation study of the south Westchester FDs. No one group out there is the "enemy." I think we should all try to keep that in mind. We all want the problems our country is having to be solved. Let's just be smart about it. It can be done. Have a great day.

Oh the conspiracy theorists are gonna have a field day with this one.

For the sake of this Board and 256,000 posts or however many I sure hope not too!

Not sure Bro. However, the volunteer ranks of many southern Westchester departments have been dwindling/suffering and in some cases, extinct for decades. I think a major part of the reason for that has been the demographic change in southern Westchester, as more and more of the white collar professional class from NYC emigrated out into south West. due to it's extremely convenient commuting location via Metro North into GCT. This drove housing prices skyward and forced most of the demographic (working class/blue collar) who possibly would have volunteered to move further outward, away from south West. Southern Westchester's loss of those particular people became a gain for FDs further north in the county. Long complicated answer to a simple question. Maybe I should have stopped at "Not sure Bro." lol

How could a fully career city dept. possibly combine with a combo career/volunteer dept?
-
Hmm......It's gotta be a dept that touches borders with NR obviously. And they are? Mt. Vernon Eastchester Scarsdale Pelham Larchmont Mamaroneck? and Da Bronx (who'd I miss or mistake?) My what a riddle this one is.

If so, I stand corrected. I'll have to have my PR people do a little more research before I post. LOL

We had an elderly gentleman who visited us daily at Headquarters for many years. He could hardly walk with his cane, but managed every day to make it up the hill to the firehouse. He wouldn't accept any help getting around. I learned a lot about the job from senior men. I learned even more about life from daily chats with Al. He made me feel more comfortable in my own firehouse than some of my co-workers. He's passed on now, and I hadn't thought about him for a while until this story brought back very fond memories. The unsung about things that all people in emergency services do for others. Obviously, the Brothers in Lansing go above and beyond the call, each and every day. Humanity and decency; traits of our Brothers and Sisters everywhere across this country. God Bless them all. Thanks for a very heartwarming story.

With all respect to the Senators, maybe their PR people should do just a little research with regard to how and what certain Federal grants are actually used for before they release their statements. SAFER Grant for volunteer retention and tools? LOL

While pursuing the morning papers I came across this article. Had to think about this for a bit because it triggered some kind of memory. The memory drifted into my mind, a bit hazy at first. For some reason the pounding of loud music, the flashing of strobe lights began swirling in my mind. Then lyrics to a song. And suddenly it hit me..... "It's fun to stay at the Y.M.C.A....." http://www.nydailyne...commentpostform Some things are better left forgotten. Happy Sunday Brothers and Sisters.

Remember when they used to sell "gum cigarettes"? Sold them in a box that looked just like Lucky Strikes. Kids like me, we used to puff out the powdered sugar inside the paper wrapper. A puff of "smoke", just like a cigarette, before you unwrapped the paper and chewed the gum. B@stards.

Instead of alerting to the danger of melting face pieces, why not spend the money, time and effort developing one that is more resistant to intense heat and flame?

Prayers for our MTA Brother during his recovery. I thought I knew about respect for Brother and Sister cops, firefighters, emergency medics. That knowledge however only continues to grow, as each time we read about another selfless hero injured in the line of duty, I am reminded anew of why they are so deserving of such respect.
-
Probably not. lol

So maybe the volume of fire was so heavy they could not generate adequate GPM to overcome it for a while.......wonder how much of a head start the fire had, what type of constructions were involved.....balloon? Truss? A little bit of both....?
-
Check out the video link and the stills after the story. Any thoughts on the reason why this fire consumed apparently three buildings to the foundations? I was thinking structure proximity to exposure as a starter. Eye witness reports from experienced firemen who stated the fire was intense. I haven't looked it up, just wondering what type of FD this is, do they have hydrants, etc. Good to see there were minimal injuries. Looks like a jet crashed into the place. http://www.nj.com/ne..._through_f.html

That's the only difference huh Cap? http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-05-24/half-of-detroit-s-streetlights-may-go-out-as-city-shrinks.html

Nice job Brothers! http://mytownreport....:news&Itemid=53

With all respect, the New York City suburbs and surrounding cities ain't DE-troit. Not yet anyway.

I'm going to have to agree. After posting and thinking about it for a bit, the GOVT should leave it to the individual websites to determine the best policy for themselves. Most people on this site identify themselves anyway. Either by posting their name, or a screen-name that ties directly to them; fake example IFDff355. If they pass the bill it might dissuade some people from posting. I think we should all be encouraging people to post. And you're right. Go fix a real-world problem.
-
This is interesting. I don't think we have much of a problem here on EMTBravo, but apparently this would affect all websites in NY that you can post on. I guess if it goes through, we'll all be putting our names where our opinions are: http://www.huffingto..._n_1537673.html http://assembly.stat...erm=2011&Text=Y

That's cool.
