  1. From the Iamonico family collection: thanks for sharing Joey!
  2. Excellent collection Seth! I vote a rep point for this post.
  3. Frank, it looks pretty old. Was it balloon?
  4. Hi Willy, I personally don't have any more old time photos. The Rescue photo was sent to me in e-mail by "KBR359" one of the senior guys on my job, who is getting ready to retire soon. His dad was on the job as well; a war hero, fireman, captain, from "the greatest generation." He also collected all kinds of photos and memorabilia from the FD, so I'd ask "KBR359" if he has any more photos if he could either e-mail them or post them himself, we'd all love to see them.
  5. That was the Fire Patrol Company.
  6. Yes the Brockway came next, and that was the last Rescue 5 before the company was decommissioned.
  7. Boron And UHSS (Ultra High Strength Steel) is all the rage for automobile manufacturers looking to make their vehicles safer when they crash. Thanks Firegeezer for pointing out a blog that contains great information about the different models currently being produced that utilize Boron and UHSS within their frames. Many hydraulic extrication tools do not cut through these newer materials and designs easily; sometimes not at all. The blogger "Smitty" is in the auto industry (click on the "About Me" link), and the first video on the site will show you that even relying on a Sawzall as a back-up to your jaws/cutter/combi tools, might not due the trick easily. http://boronextrication.com/ Great read, excellent diagrams, comprehensive listing of vehicles using UHSS technologies.
  8. BUSTED....
  9. That's very interesting. Nice work. Edit: Wouldn't it be the greatest application to be able to send that to a command car's MDT....
  10. Someone should have told them they could get similar images from google......for free....
  11. Chief White did the same thing with the Halligan Tool. There's an old letter from Hugh Halligan saying basically "thanks for buying one" somewhere at HQ.
  12. Angelo, That is super great information, thank you so much for sharing your extensive apparatus knowledge! I don't know the year it was built. Eddie maybe, or Ibo want to help us out here?
  13. The guy was canned for doing it. http://www.11alive.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=160263&catid=3
  14. Happy Halloween Barry. Isn't that guy in the protective suit the movie actor that starred in "The Omega Man" with Charlton Heston?
  15. Good luck to the FDNY Fire Alarm Dispatcher trainees.

  18. Ditto that. Great shots Eli!
  19. Excellent post Chief. I've had a change of heart though. IMHO now Facebook REALLY SUCKS.
  20. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_Beirut_barracks_bombing Missed this by two days. For so many of us back then, this was a far away story. Back in '83 I don't think many(or any) of us had computers, let alone the internet. All news came in print, or on radio/tv. Little did we know the ramifications of these bombings. Our enemies saw how easily they could inflict death and terror. Ten years later, they would do the exact same thing (maybe a different grade of explosive) in the first World Trade Center bombing. Know your history, always remember the sacrifices our fellow countrymen have made; those who came before us, and those who fight on today in Afghanistan, where the greatest threat they face are IED's. This was also the first we started hearing about "suicide bombers" and "secondary attacks." The French Paratroopers were standing on the balconies of their building watching what had just happened to the Marine barracks, when the second truck bomber drove in and exploded in their basement garage.
