  1. Chief, Not bad for a Rescue guy.....
  2. The effort the Brothers put in to this project from construction through demonstration was outstanding. They passed out questionnaires at the conclusion, five or six quick questions with a circle 1 thru 5 for the answer format. And we got to keep the pens. Public relations 101; do it right and keep your department out there in a positive light, especially these days with all the crazy attacks on the job from coast to coast. Lest I forget our Brothers In Blue, I leave you with this.....and yes they DO take transfers.
  3. The clock said it all....
  4. Then it was time for the sprinklered module.
  5. I was taking the photographs, but I was also looking around at peoples' reactions, and should have gotten a few shots of them. Most sat or stood with the same look on their faces; mouths open, blank look, in shock.
  6. Ignition to flashover: 3 minutes 20 seconds.
  7. Houston, we have ignition.... 1 3/4" in place. The members had this attack line, and a back-up line each manned with two firefighters and an officer.
  8. Captain Geo(Joe) Toth got the show started with a Stop-Drop-Roll for the children, and talked with the public about the importance of EDITH. IFR firefighters ready themselves for the demonstration. Officers used a P.A. system to ensure the crowd easily heard all the information they were providing. All of these firefighters are also paramedics.
  9. The members constructed these identical modules using frame construction, and furnished them with items donated by The Habitat For Humanity.
  10. Off topic: I kept getting confused....how many "Mofire"s are there? Answer 3...one's a wifey...I looked it up.
  11. Nice! (Where's the hose straps? lol)

  13. I was looking at that as well. It looks like the angled lights on the a/c unit provide 45 degree angle coverage. I could see this as being an advantage for entering intersections; the angled lights would hopefully alert traffic in that previously blind spot. It looks like it gives you almost 180 degrees of coverage up front.
  14. Wow 26 years ago....I remember this tragedy like it was yesterday. Thanks for reminding us all Helicopper.
  15. In my opinion, when you are charged (nice pun huh) with the responsibility of being MPO, you should be out with that rig for as many dozens of hours as it takes for you to memorize like The Pledge of Allegiance, what discharges and suctions are where, where the levers are, where the overheat lights are, where the tank level lights are, the primer, the tank to pump, EVERYTHING! While I can't say I strenuously object to the diagram, it just goes along the lines (another pun) with electronics on the panel, auto-throttles, etc. It's just another step in taking the brain work out of pumping. In a day and age when the talk around here is raising educational requirements for firefighters, at the same time what are we doing? Taking the brain work out of pumping, a job that requires a lot of know how on the fireground. The biggest problem when we go down this road is this; what is the fail-safe in case our pump aids fail us? What if this decal falls off on the way to a fire? Sure you can laugh at that, but you know what? In my time, I saw lots of things fall off of engines (one time it was the ENTIRE load of hose in the bed). Never say never. There's a reason why some jobs decline when given the choice of electronic and automated pump aids. Most times it's places like Yonkers, where they get many fires. They know what works, and what has worked successfully. Change for the sake of change is not necessarily the thing to be doing on our pumps. K.I.S.S.!!!! Just my opinion......fire away all you Brothers who blast guys like me that say NO TO CHANGE lol....
  16. After they were checked out and medical authority ensured these cadets were okay; ya think they caught an ear-full in the barracks? (The USMC lent out a DI to make the point)

  18. Isn't that the way things always go in this world? Wait for the tragedy, then hurry up and get up to the standards. NOT saying this is the case with regard to Rye, just a general statement regarding workplace safety. So many places play Russian Roulette with the safety of their workers. They gamble that something horrific won't happen, most times because it's the cheaper way to do business. Then after tragedy strikes, employers make long overdue changes in the workplace....so it doesn't happen...again.
  19. In answer to the chief's question regarding "Battalion Chief" in Westchester; I believe the correct title is "Battalion Coordinator"(?), referring to the 60-Control mutual-aid coordinators.
  20. Really? Oh thank you, thank you!
  21. That's what he meant professor....jeesh Next you'll be giving out report cards on here....lol
  22. Why are you being so harsh in your judgments? The incident happened, the "warriors in training" needed help, and they got it from Brothers-in-Arms, the NYPD aviation unit. Why not just be thankful that it was a successful rescue, and everybody is okay?
  23. Hard to see video of the rescue, but the audio is pretty good: http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2011/02/20/2011-02-20_west_point_cadets_saved_in_daring_rescue.html
  24. You've got to watch the video and see the patrol car. It's unbelievable how damaged the vehicle is. Rest in Peace, and the atrocious year for Law Enforcement continues.... http://www.wpbf.com/news/26897456/detail.html
