  1. Agree with Monty. Getting them out of the danger zone will put your mind at ease, and you can focus and concentrate 100% on the job at hand. Send them east 100 miles to a nice hotel with a pool.....
  2. Seth on the scene! Found a news article for ya; you didn't mention "Pflugerville F.D."? Seth how could you? lol Nice job with the camera. http://austin.ynn.com/content/top_stories/280153/pflugerville-fire-destroys-gold-star-cabinets

  6. Hello, Thank you for your kind remarks. I've been away from the forum for some time now, but am enjoying very much being back. I'm blessed to know some very smart people in the fire service, both active and retired. Some fairly famous (within the business at least), most are firefighters/officers who give 110% doing the job and care greatly for people. I've always found the ones I become fondest of, are the ones who freely admit that their entire careers are learning experiences. These gentlemen/ladies have taught me so much; to lose the ego and always remember NOBODY in this business knows everything. Some of us become more humble as the years go by, some of us become more hardened, cynical, bitter, paranoid, etc. Some learn, some never do. Sounds like you're a guy who yearns to learn. NOBODY should ever try to dissuade you, me or anyone else from that. ~Wish you the best, and please stay safe.
  7. Now I owe YOU two rep points! lol
  8. Another one? I guess this settles the question; "is it safer to take a bus or fly on a plane...." Rest in Peace, and prayers for recovery for the critical and others injured.
  9. Very good point. Now you gave me something to think about for a while.....
  10. Really nice post. Out of reps for the day, sorry Seth.
  11. IMHO dirt would do in lieu of other absorbent materials. Creating the dike, letting the gasoline pool and simultaneously lathering a foam blanket to keep the pool from igniting would be the most environmentally friendly way of tackling it. After my job had a similar situation, like Bad Box pointed out, we sat around afterward and critiqued what we could have done better with our call; because we lost who knows how much product into the driveway drainage, which in turn emptied out into a small creek behind the structure. Good question 129!
  12. Make a nice Tanker ya think? Nice shot Seth.
  13. Marc, Looks like she's going to Cat 4 and you might get the outer ring of Cat 2: http://www.wunderground.com/wundermap/?lat=22.4&lon=-73.9&zoom=6&type=hyb&rad=0&wxsn=0&svr=0&cams=0&sat=0&riv=0&mm=0&hur=1&hur.wr=0&hur.cod=1&hur.fx=1&hur.obs=1&fire=0&ft=0&sl=0
  14. Excuse me Brother but please explain how the gasoline was "contained"? Were the storm drains diked and we just didn't read about it? Please remember, this discussion has evolved only so that the next fire crew that handles something like this might have another idea as to how to contain a hazardous material without a wash-down; last I remember that isn't done anymore. Once again, it is not intended to disrespect or demean the crews that were there who did their jobs. And it certainly isn't MMQB'ing, it's trying to teach and learn from an actual event that we are fortunate to view. ~Respectfully yours, Captain George Glover (ret)
  15. I saw this video on HUffpo yesterday. That is one brave cop to be running with his weapon pointed while being shot in the neck and skull. Prayers for a full recovery, and for the family devastated by yet another citizen gone crazy. Seems like it happens everyday now. Stay safe Brothers/Sisters in Blue. I can't count how many LODDs we've had in FLA this year, many of them multiple.
  16. I think pretty much most of us know that S/B has the volume, the reach, the lower psi, etc. Question is; why are so many understaffed career, combo, or volunteer jobs, and their chiefs stuck on sticking with "automatic" "fog" call them what you want nozzles? Was it just crafty salesmanship that sold so many of them to so many departments? Inquiring minds want to know.
  17. Thanks BB, glad to be back. Don't mind Bull (I think he has a good heart but a sense of hubris and bravado of a FNG), if he had any idea how many boxes you responded to in the boroughs in your career (as opposed to always telling us how many boxes HE responds to these days), maybe he'd pay attention to your posts a little more closely. Talk to you soon Brother.
  18. Classic! Did you fall asleep at the desk and do a facial into your mug of java? LOL
  19. Another "routine" vehicle fire for you Bull in case ya forgot.... youtube credit: elag777 Holy Moly!!! Gotta agree with you on that one. 35+ posts over a routine car fire??? LOLZ
  20. Routine? With a flaming gasoline leak, downhill, into the storm system. Okay Bull, whatever you say. LOL Edit: Post #37
  21. Didn't feel a thing down here in South Fla. But I herd a rumble and thought LTNRFD must have come back down fishing, ate some blacken Tuna and had some baaad gassss.....
  22. Absolutely, if the IC from Hastings had asked YFD to protect the exposure, and then H-O-H shut down two or three lines..... Like Bad Box said, this is NOT a criticism. My job had one of these years ago, only problem was the vehicle was pointed downhill TOWARDs the exposure. We filled the driveway 3 feet deep with foam to extinguish. Think about the "wash-down" run-off that goes into the storm drain. Where does it go? Does it accumulate to explosive levels someplace else? Or being Hastings, does it just flow into the Hudson.... Something to think about for the next time. Every job is a learner. Takes nothing away from the effort the Brothers made there.
  23. Let the arguments be done. Chief Shultz has come a long way in my book, and his word should be the final word on this incident. Thanks marketmets415 for the photos.
  24. Why is the one comment from the man with more fire experience than most of us combined, basically ignored? You want this to be a learning tool right? Recognize who is doing the TEACHING.
  25. It's pretty clear from the photos that these were Holsteins, not Black Angus. Holsteins are milking cows, not "steak cows". Get out of the "city" once in a while.
