I created the Lake Carmel Fasteam and it took a few years to get it where i wanted it to be. The team was active and trained together once a month with our entire department so that even the members that didnt want to respond with the team also got the training. The training not only benifited the departments that requested us but made our department better overall. As the IC at our calls I saw our members coming off our appartus better prepared. After I was Chief the team hung on for a few years but slowly the members lost interest and the current Chief at the time couldn't be bothered to take an interest in the team and dissolved it. I dont want to get into our departments politics but I dont see the members coming off the appartus the way that they use to. One issue that did occur that Carmel needs to watch out for is that we werent being requested enough and in a timely fashion. In Putnam Co just one department had us on automatic mutual aid and that was after the fire was confirmed(someone actually on scene) so that would be a good 5-8 minutes after the fire was dispatched. By the time we got dispatched and drove over there we had to park the rig out of the way and hike with all our gear to the scene. usually walking up to a fire that has been knocked down and the first crew already taking a blow at rehab. There needs to be a better system of dispatching the Fasteam and in a more timely fashion.

At Putnam911 we had a different event everyday with food being donated almost everyday. We also recieved a procamation for the County Exec.

The Putnam County Legislatures voted to appoint Adam Stiebling as Commissioner of Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Service and he will be sworn in Jan.1st

An electronic bugle costs about 525.00 dollars, I hope that a few departments pick one up and share with there brothers and sister . It is an honor that all veterans deserve.

Dover is in Patterson and has covered a vehicle fire on I84 for them East Fishkill is in Lake Carmel and Bedford Hills just relocated to Brewster HQ

Germantown Engine- is in Putnam Lake

I had a similar incident with the same type of vehicle. As we pulled up on scene the brakes let loose and the truck started rolling down a hill towards a school bus. A police officer arriving on the scene placed his vehicle between the truck and the school bus. Lucky for us no one was injuried and the police cruiser was repaired. And you will never see me at the scene of a vehicle fire and wheels not chocked !

I heard the buss around town about the building and the business. When are you opening? Mike, Do you have family that came from Carmel? I remember years ago when my father was alive that he had a buddy that he went to high school with that moved to Long Island and got into the apparatus business. And they need to moved this thread to the Putnam section.

We used the truck for our anniverary parade and there was talk of buying it and refurbing it but i dont think thats going to happen.

I actually do remember transporting patients in the rescue at least once but it wasn't the norm. And Jim I will let u know when it gets in service. The rescue is being delivered this week and should be in service around May 1st which is our inspection. (Hint Hint a good day to take pics of the appartus while its nice and clean)

No we never used it that way however we did place victims on backboards and load them in the rear of the rescue while waiting for transport ambulances during multi victim car accidents.

This is the current rescue a 1989 Road Rescue on an International chassis with a walk in box. A front mounted warn winch, a 10kw generator, Electrical reels on both sides and hydralic reels curb side and 4 night fighters. The body is in good shape with a little damage to the front fender curb side from a run in with a Gator. Other than that just normal wear and tear from over the years. As of right now i dont believe that our Board of Directors has set a price and are looking for interested parties.

The new rescue: Winch in a hide away front bumper,PTO generator,refridge,pump,300 gallon water tank,two speedlays,10 scba bottle storage,cribbing and extrication chain storage,transverse ems compart.,stokes and backboard storage, ladder compartment,preconnected hydralic reels and on board elec hydralic pump,5 drawer tool box,3 full size tool boards, two electrical reels either side,4 dunage compartments top side,speedy dri hopper and some other misc. things.

as a point of interest: there is a engine and ambulance from Putnam standing by for Mohegan tonight in there quarters , they have an event going on tonight

Having pumped both on many occasions I have pro's and con's for both and many have been mentioned. One thing I like about the top mount is the ease of getting to both side of the rig to get things or hook up lines. The climbing up and down doesn't bother me to much. The guys working the fire are working harder than I am so just suck it up. The view is nice but not nessasary especially with today radio's. We do a better job of communicating whats going on and keeping the MPO in the loop as to whats going on and what may be needed of him. (ie. open and close lines) The side mount is nice when ur in line pumping or being a tanker(pumper/tanker). It just seems easier to me. Just my 2 cents

Building construction is nothing new to use but it seems that it is finally getting the attention that it deserves. I started in this business as an Explorer and we had an Advisor that drilled building cont. into our heads. It is something has has stuck with me till today. I do feel that is does get less attention from some instrutors during FF1 than it does other but I don't think there given the proper time to cover it enough. I think that students don't realize how important it's going to be to them later on. Our department makes it a part of training program on a department level but it is something that comes up on a company level often. On a side note we had a fully involved fire the other night and there was noway we were going inside. I was the officer of the first due and still took the couple of minutes to do the 360 sizeup. Just so I knew my enemy. I also continued to do 360's every 30 minutes at least just so i knew what was happening with the structure and the other hose teams.
