Incident Alert

Baby in critical condition after Hyde Park crash

HYDE PARK — A baby was transported to Saint Francis Hospital in critical condition after the car, in which the baby was a back seat passenger, was involved in a serious three-car accident at the intersection of Crumb Elbow Road and Route 9G.

The two other people in the car, a female driver and a male passenger, were also transported to Saint Francis for serious injuries.

Roosevelt Fire Department had to cut open the car, a Saturn, and extricate the male passenger. The entire right side of the Saturn is demolished.

A passerby who witnessed the accident promptly removed the baby from its car seat and took it to a Northern Dutchess Paramedics station down the street.

It appears the Saturn was making a right turn onto Route 9G, heading north from Crumb Elbow. It collided with a Mercury Mariner SUV. The SUV's driver was transported to Saint Francis.

All the adults transported suffered serious, but not life-threatening, injuries, said Roosevelt Fire Chief William Steenbergh.

The third car appears to be undamaged. The driver refused medical attention.

The middle lane on 9G heading south at the intersection is closed, and fire officials are redirecting traffic. The right lane at Crumb Elbow is also closed. Expect traffic delays.

Hyde Park police and Dutchess County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the crash.
